Daniel Dickson's insight:

This video is my supporting evidence for the technology actually in use. It is a short video of the VASIMR igniting, and it looks amazing. I cannot wait to see what happens after launch, and I will include whatever the most recent news or data there is on this technology.

1TB per disc: Sony and Panasonic team up on next-gen Blu-ray | ExtremeTech | Based on current trends in the IT industry, what might be the five most important technologies in the next 5 to 10 years? | Scoop.it
Electronic storage has been moving away from discs for quite some time.
Daniel Dickson's insight:

This is my supporting article for the third technology outlined in the previous post. It was recently posted only on the 10th of March and what I found most interesting about it is the writer of the article is mentioning 2015 as a launch date for the product. So what this confirms is that the product is at a stage where the developers are willing to start talking about release to the general public. This is an awesome revelation as it will mean this technology is well within the 5-year gap of something we will see very soon. I'll look to expand on what uses the developers see for it , as well as what uses I feel it may provide to the commercial market.

Daniel Dickson's insight:

This is a lovely support video to show what just a normal person can do when they come up against this technology to have a look at it, and effect their change on it. I think it supports the commercial viability even if only for a visual effect at shopping malls. Of course I know this tech. is meant for greater things and I will look to flesh out those possibilities further in my essay.

UVioO - Introducing the Leap Motion

UVioO - Introducing the Leap Motion | Based on current trends in the IT industry, what might be the five most important technologies in the next 5 to 10 years? | Scoop.it
UVioO - Leap Motion represents an entirely new way to interact with your computers. It's more accurate than a mouse, as reliable as a keyboard and more sensitive than a touchscreen.

Daniel Dickson's insight:

This is an example video to show what other features this technology has that is not discussed in the review that I first posted, as this is an official trailer of the technology compared to a user review it has a more in-depth array of what the futures for this technology. Based upon what is seen in this video we can see it being used for maps, which immediately makes me think of Taxis (commercial) and Defense force (military). Whenever a technology has use for these two zones of the market it normally sees a rapid advancement in a short period of time. This is what I will attempt to prove in my essay for this technology.

VASIMR- New and faster propulsion system for space!

Variable Specific Impulse Magnetoplasma Rocket. With this technology they're not talking about years anymore. They're talking about days to reach planets in ...
Daniel Dickson's insight:

The VASIMR propulsion system is my fourth technology that I would like to discuss. It will make space travel 3 times faster than what we can currently achieve and may open up the possibilities of space to us in our life-time. There are many different fusion propulsion technologies being developed, but this one is the first to receive enough funding to actually get to launch phase. So this is very exciting for space enthusiasts and an important revelation for the future of mankind.

Daniel Dickson's insight:

The Gear Smart Watch is my fourth technology that I will discuss. It's an innovation in the new world because it is the first piece of technology that I have mentioned that you can actually wear. This video shows what it is capable of and the kinds of software you can install on it. I will enjoy going into more depth about where this technology could see itself in five to ten years because this one is literally on our door step as it is launching April 1 with the new Galaxy Smart Phone (S5).

ODA - Optical Disc Archive - Technical Benefits

In this segment, Sony's Professional Solutions Division's Chief Technology Officer, Hugo Gaggioni, explains the benefits of Sony's latest ODA - Optical Disc ...
Daniel Dickson's insight:

This is my third technology that I have chosen to look at because it holds great DATA. In the technology world, the capacity of holding data, either in its own case or in your pocket is always going to be a talking point... and increasing it is by mega proportions will make the noise louder. Let's forget for a moment about the potential of a 1TB disc and focus on the 300GB disc which is achievable now. Xbox and Playstation are a huge money making machine in the Games Industry today and they would love to see a new disc they can use to push their industry further. I will look to discuss the role that Microsoft plays in this game where they play Console vs PC and drive the technology world forward through crucial advancements of such a pivotal piece of hardware like a DVD (CD).

Leia Display Systems

www.LeiaDisplay.com.
Daniel Dickson's insight:

This is my second technology that I would like to talk about in my essay. It is funny enough been named after Princess Leia from Star Wars, again another movie inspired technology that is coming to life in the 21st century. This tech. I feel is an amazing discovery because of its potential for entertainment (commercial). One example I felt might be appealing is for what you could with that technology on stage for a live band. I'm sure as time goes along other technology enthusiasts will find other more outlandish uses for it.

Leap Motion Review (Motion Control for Mac & PC)

Other places I hang out: FaceBook Fan Page: http://goo.gl/pZsjC Twitter: http://twitter.com/soldierknowbest Instagram: http://instagram.com/markwatson Google...
Daniel Dickson's insight:

Leap Motion is the first technology to take my interest from this research. It was first seen in the movie Minority Report, where Tom Cruise uses nothing but the air in front of him to manipulate data on an interactive screen. At the time it was pure sci-fi, and I am blown away to discover a company has innovated a product that does exactly that. The potential of this product is amazing. This technology is a gateway device, a simple and effective device people can play with and get used to and eventually it will find its way into the commercial and military world. I will look to explore the future of this technology further in my essay.
