Prospera Financial Services, is now using SunGard’s Protegent Social Media Surveillance for regulatory compliance and to monitor its advisors’ online activity. Founded in 1982 by former wirehouse brokers, Prospera Financial offers the flexibility of a boutique paired with the resources only found at some of the nation’s largest brokerages, in part through its correspondent clearing arrangement with First Clearing, LLC, an affiliate of Wells Fargo Advisors.

SunGard’s Protegent Social Media Surveillance will help Prospera monitor and archive activity and content posted to social networking websites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

It will also help Prospera manage the supervisory and books and records requirements set forth by FINRA notice 10-06, which covers blogs and social networking sites, by utilizing tools for moderation and pre-approval of content that may be considered advertisement.

Marco Galvan, information technology manager at Prospera Financial Services, said, “SunGard’s Protegent Social Media Surveillance gives our compliance officers greater confidence in allowing our advisors to participate on social media sites and run their own websites because Protegent helps them monitor that activity and protect the firm from regulatory breech and reputational risk.”

Steve Sabin, chief operating officer of SunGard’s Protegent business unit, said, “SunGard’s Protegent Social Media Surveillance is helping customers like Prospera Financial Services establish and enforce internal social media usage policies, while also helping them mitigate risks and adhere to regulatory obligations.”

The increasing popularity of social networking Web sites introduces potential risk factors for organizations seeking to monitor content that may breach internal communication and privacy policies. With Protegent Social Media Surveillance, financial services firms can manage supervisory requirements from Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) by utilizing tools for moderation and pre-approval of content that may be considered advertisement.

The solution’s alerting, reporting and archiving capabilities help financial firms adhere to FINRA books and records surveillance requirements. Protegent Social Media Surveillance features integrated search and reporting, automated policy alerts, lexicon detection, approval workflow and e-mail notifications.

Protegent Social Media Surveillance is the result of a partnership between SunGard and SiteQuest Technologies Inc., a leading provider of social media Web archiving tools. The new solution leverages SiteQuest Technologies’ Web consumption technology and SunGard’s Protegent comprehensive compliance rules library to automate monitoring of social networking activity.
