Artistic to the Core: Music and Common Core - Edutopia

Artistic to the Core: Music and Common Core - Edutopia | Banco de Aulas | Scoop.it

"I'm not a gambling person, but if I had to place a bet on one sure-fire method for engaging students, increasing test scores, reaching students who fall below standards, challenging students who exceed grade-level standards, accessing students' creativity and originality, maximizing brain connections formed, applying concepts to new situations, and making the learning process more fun for the students and teacher, I would place that bet on . . . teaching the core curriculum through the arts."

Want to integrate arts in your classroom? Did you know that schools here in Fairbanks have the Picturing America set of laminated posters for check out through the library. Or perhaps you'd like students to do something more technology based; try using Layar or Thinglink to add content (stories, voice recordings, weblinks, etc.) to images. Ask your librarian to help you!

If you are an art lover, you will be happy to know that there is a growing number of free curation tools designed specifically to help you find and discover as well as collect, organize and save your favorite artworks into online digital collections. The latest one of these free art curation tools to hit my radar is Saatchi Online, which gives you the opportunity to discover community collections, created by registered users to curate their own favorite sets of artworks. When you curate one of this art collections, you can focus on one specific artist or on a theme that brings together different ones. Next to Saatchi Online, you can go to the Metropolitan of New York online, which also offers curatorial facilities, to Artsy, or to Kapsul and Pictify, two curation tools specifically focusing on art. *Art curation tools is now a section of the Content Curation Tools Supermap
