Pippa Davies @PippaDavies 's curator insight, January 29, 6:17 PM

"The Encyclopedia is the first comprehensive, evidence-based online resource focused on children's language and literacy development for the Canadian education sector.

The Encyclopedia helps provide answers to questions about children's language and literacy – answers that are based on relevant, reliable and up-to-date research presented in an easily accessible format. A wide range of topics, including the development of oral language, reading, writing and numeracy, are addressed. In addition to articles written by some of the world's leading experts on language and literacy, the Encyclopedia includes key messages for educators, parents and policymakers, as well as commentaries written by front-line practitioners. Many teachers have reported that they use the Encyclopedia to support their daily practices, telling us how informative and user-friendly they find the entries for developing, implementing and supporting literacy programs for their students.

The goal of the Encyclopedia is to bring the best international research on language and literacy development to Canada. Thus, in addition to the many expert Canadian researchers contributing to the Encyclopedia, an increasing number of researchers from other countries are becoming involved in this project, including researchers from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Finland, New Zealand, Germany, Israel, China, Jordan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

As more research is conducted and our understanding of language and literacy expands and changes, the Encyclopedia will grow in parallel. Please visit often, as new entries and commentaries are added regularly.

If you could share this information with teachers, it would be much appreciated. Let us know if you have any questions about the Encyclopedia at jeren@cllrnet.ca."
