Daniel Ko's insight:

Water truly is a quick weight-loss solution. It's effects are drastic, but most people don't even notice. Drinking water not only keeps the body hydrated and at homeostasis, it's also a metabolism booster. By keeping the blood flowing, you can also prevent long-term cholesterol problems. Whenever I work out, I always make sure to have water on hand and not some soft drink. The vital part that makes water so convenients is its total lack of calories.

Understanding what you body is made up of and how much water that your body consists of puts a big perspective on your water intake. You body is made up of more then 80% of water. Water has many pros for what it does to your system. Some include releasing toxins from the body and hydrates your body for more energy and performance. The consumption of water that should be taken in is about a gallon a day, but drink a couple of glasses a meal will consume most of that gallon and put you in a good place for trying to loss that excess fat and stay healthy.

Daniel Ko's insight:

Another collection of great full-body workouts involving both muscle mass workouts and cardio workouts. The focus points here are "endurance areas", or the areas of your body that you use most in sports and athletic training. I've noticed the emphasis on legs; legs are the foundation in just about any physical activity. I can see why MMA fighters have such solidly built legs - they'll buckle under pressure otherwise.

Daniel Ko's insight:

What I love about these workouts are the various levels of intensities there are. These workouts will definitely prevent plateau-ing from occurring, and what's better is that I won't need access to a gym.

What's even more outstanding, as far as I can see, is the depth of the workouts. Because of the varieties of workouts, there's a chance to get a good sweat going on even at home. I can workout my entire body and work up a sweat without even having to leave my living room.

The 'healthy' foods that aren't so healthy

The 'healthy' foods that aren't so healthy | Balanced & Healthy Living | Scoop.it
COUSCOUS is not much healthier than cakes or pastries, according to a report published by Australian scientists in the Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Via AmazingPeople
Daniel Ko's insight:

There are lots of vegetables that are so starch and carb-loaded that they might as well be junk foods. Especially when cooked in fatty oils. For example: the potato. The potato is classified as a vegetable, but it's a very meaty one at that. A single red potato can have up to 40g of carbohydrates!! Large potatoes may go higher. It's no wonder why french fries are so unhealthy for you - potatos deep friend in fatty oils = excess carbohydrates and fats with no health benefits whatsoever.

Here's the Way Diet Soda Can be Just as Bad For You as Crack ...

Here's the Way Diet Soda Can be Just as Bad For You as Crack ... | Balanced & Healthy Living | Scoop.it
Diet soda is supposed to be the healthy alternative to calorie heavy regular sodas. But, as scientists are discovering over and over again, what diet.

Via Alexander Sophia, AlGonzalezinfo
Daniel Ko's insight:

The effects of diet soda are ridiculous. Nothing positive is gained at all - all you get is a heap of regret. I quit drinking diet soda and sodas in general - which was a big effort considering how much I frequented fast food places - and the results? Major. Absolutely astonishing. I lost as much as 3 lbs in the course of a month all from avoiding soft drinks and sodas. It's amazing what miracles can be accomplished just by shaving off the calories from those drinks.

However, the tricky thing about diet sodas...they're not supposed to have any calories. So why the weight gain?? There are several factors.

1) Aspartarme - consists of 10% methanol, or wood alcohol. Turns into formic acid and formaldehyde. Not only are these poisonous, but these are severely drastic metabolism blockers, which brings me to my next point.

2) Sodium. Lord knows how much sodium is in diet soda. Some is needed in the diet, but in excess amounts, sodium blocks up the metabolism and makes way for weight to be gained.

Unbelievable...  From the article:

Years of addiction to illicit substances like crack cocaine and crystal methamphetamine often leads to major dental problems, like decay, enamel erosion, and loss of teeth. Years of addiction to diet soda, a study recently published in the journal General Dentistry showed, has startlingly similar effects.

Daniel Ko's insight:

I need to get on this work-out immediately. All I've been doing as far as abdominal workouts go is using the Roman chair, and that hasn't had much to show for. On the other hand, these workouts don't even NEED a Roman chair. I can do these at home - no need to go to the gym for just an abdominal workout anymore.
