Brand storytelling involves telling stories about a business, its people and its brand in a way that engages the reader, educates the reader, shapes their perception of the business and helps with their buying decision making.

 

Through brand storytelling, a business can communicate directly to its target audience with stories told through website copy, blogs, online articles, emails and social media.

 

The best stories will take the consumer on an emotional journey – one that appeals to their wants, needs and desires. At the same time, it should educate the consumer about the brand and remain open and transparent about the brand’s values.

 

The Do’s and Don’ts of good brand storytelling

 

Do:

- Have a brand storytelling plan

- Maintain message consistency

- Keep it interesting

 

Don't:

- Preach

- Lie

"Eric R. Jones Fletcher II and Steve King graduated 10 years ago from Akron’s Buchtel and Garfield high schools, respectively. Both were academically gifted and received college scholarships. Two years ago, as successful scholars and businessmen, they founded the Young Black Professionals Coalition (YBPC), a nonprofit organization that focuses on the development of future leaders. The group has a dual purpose, serving kids and young adults. It plays a role in the development of young African-Americans through a mentoring program, workshops, seminars and professional clinics."
