A consultancy group for nonviolent resistance movements around the world, CANVAS prides itself on having trained pro-democracy activists from almost 40 countries in nonviolent techniques and strategies.

Members of Egypt's April 6 Youth Movement, a decisive force in bringing down former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, were disciples of the organisation, which has been dubbed the 'Revolution Academy'.

Comment on Sheikh Isa Qassim's call to answer violence with violence!

Comment on Sheikh Isa Qassim's call to answer violence with violence! | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

My comment:

This has got to be Bahrain's darkest hour! When in the history of human events has violence solicited any other response than more violence? This is an act of desperation, and that should not be! Each Shia is not alone, first they are all in the heart and mind of Allah! Second, they have each other as a support community. Why acts of desperation? When you look at the history of freedom struggles worldwide, the proven success of civil disobedience makes it the venue of choice. This is NOT to say that this path is not full of risks, brutalities, and deaths. There WILL be sufferings on this path. But, the goal of freedom for yourselves, for your children, for all future Bahraini citizens must be the focus. The blacks in America suffered horribly, but MLK led them through this to comparative freedom today, much is to be done, but they are overcoming on this path. The Jews suffered genocidal extermination at the hands of the Nazis, but today they have their own nation. Issa suffered under the Pharsiees/Sadducees/Rome, but his movement lives today! YOU WILL OVERPOWER THIS REGIME WITH YOUR CAPACITY TO ENDURE ANYTHING THEY CAN THROW AT YOU AND STILL BE ASKING FOR FREEDOM! YOU WILL NOT, AND CANNOT, OVERPOWER THIS REGIME BY FORCE! BE STRONG, BE RESOLUTE, STAY FOCUSED! EACH ACT OF VIOLENCE BY THE DEMOCRACY REFORMERS FUELS THE PROPAGANDA MACHINE OF THE REGIME AGAINST YOUR CAUSE. DO NOT GIVE YOUR ENEMY AMMUNITION AGAINST YOURSELF, DO NOT ANSWER VIOLENCE, WITH VIOLENCE! I LOVE YOU ALL, TAKE CARE!

Silmiya, Silmiya! - Do YOU understand?, I do!

Silmiya, Silmiya! - Do YOU understand?, I do! | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

'Peaceful, Peaceful!'

I do not speak, read, or write Arabic.  I am American and monolingual, (linguistically ignorant) .

But, I understand 'Silmiya'  when I hear it in videos from the MENA region.  How is it that these mercenaries in Bahrain cannot comprehend?!  Or, maybe they are just doing what their masters, the al-khalifas, dictate!    Muderous al-khalifas!

Bahrain Shia cleric warns troops not to attack women - Bahrain Freedom Movement

Bahrain Shia cleric warns troops not to attack women - Bahrain Freedom Movement | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

In a sermon delivered at Friday prayers Sheikh Isa Qassim said: "Whoever you see abusing a woman, crush him." ....

In a passionate and angry sermon, a video of which has been seen by the BBC, Sheikh Qassim said on Friday: "Let us die for our honour."

"How do they who do this to people expect the people to remain silent and not defend their rights and honour?" he asked.

[I am concerned......violence against the regime justifies any violence to suppress it in the name of 'law and order.'  Is the attack on women a goad.....if so, this is the response the regime desired to provoke!]

Bahrain police crack down on Shiite protesters: ex-MP

Bahrain police crack down on Shiite protesters: ex-MP | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

He added that Wefaq chief Sheikh Ali Salman called on demonstrators not to use Molotov cocktails against police, as some had done during protests on Friday.

[So true!  Incalculable damage to the World image of these protests are done when the protesters appear violent and criminal.  Any amount of regime retaliation seems plausible given the violent nature of those they confront.  Make the regime appear as the aggressor, they are the violent oppressers.  Make your protests peacefully Civil disobedient.  ]

Martin Luther King: A Christmas Sermon On Peace - 1967 | NON-VIOLENCE

Martin Luther King: A Christmas Sermon On Peace - 1967 | NON-VIOLENCE | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

2:40  "....Modern man really go all-out to study the meaning of non-violence, its philosophy and its strategy......But now, the time has come for man to experiment with non-violence in all areas of human conflict.  And that means non-violence on an International scale.  Now let me suggest first that: If we are to have peace on Earth, our loyalties must become ecumenical rather than sectional."....

9:50  "...Ends are not cut-off from means.....Ultimately you cannot reach good ends through evil means.  Because the means represent the seed,  and the ends

represent the tree...."

11:30  "... We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means...."

19:00  "...Somehow we must be able to stand-up before our most bitter opponents and say:  'We shall match your capacity to inflict suffering by our ability to endure suffering.  We will meet your physical force with soul force.  Do to us what you will and we will still love you.  We cannot, in all good conscience, obey your unjust laws, and abide by the unjust system.  Because non-cooperation with evil is as much a moral obligation as cooperation with good, and so throw us in jail, we will still love you.' ...."

20:20  "   We will wear you down with our capacity to suffer..."
