U.S. said pressuring Bahrain on reform: Threatens pullout of Navy's Fifth Fleet

A senior Bahraini cleric linked to the Sunni kingdom said Washington was threatening to pull out the U.S. Navy from Manama. The cleric, National Unity Assembly president Abdul Latif Al Mahmoud, urged Bahrain to allow the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet to leave rather than cave in to pressure from Washington for rapid reform.
"Let these troops and facilities leave," Al Mahmoud said. "We are ready to starve to death for the sake of our dignity and honor."

Pity the poor people of Bahrain. They have been shot, beaten, tear-gassed – and patronised. On 7 March, at the height of the pro-democracy protests in the tiny Gulf island kingdom, a crowd gathered outside the US embassy in Manama, the capital, carrying signs that read "Stop supporting dictators" and "Give me liberty or give me death". A US embassy official emerged from the building with a box of doughnuts for the protesters, prompting a cleric in the crowd to remark: "These sweets are a good gesture, but we hope it is translated into practical actions."

AMERICA & EU FOREIGN POLICY MUST CHANGE AND STOP SUPPORTING FASCIST, BRUTAL DICTATORSHIPS!.......EVIL KHALIFA REGIME!

A special report on the torture and human rights violations against the detainees in the case of "Alliance for the Republic" | Bahrain Center for Human Rights | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
The military court in Bahrain issued harsh sentences against 21 opposition leaders and figures, including Abdul Hadi Al Khawajah, the prominent human rights activist.
The lack of international standards for trials and having civilians tried before a military court are blatant violations of their rights and a sign of the invalidity of the sentences issued.
Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) considers the detainees prisoners of conscience with no material evidence of their involvement in violence or the incitement of violence. The BCHR condemns their torture during interrogation and trial.

Swaziland: On 12th April 2011, following strikes by trade unions in previous years which have gone unheeded, demonstrations erupted in Manzini, the commercial capital. Over 1,000 peaceful protesters, including many teachers, were subjected to water cannon and tear gas grenades.

The demonstration was timed to commemorate the 38th anniversary of the banning of all political parties by Mswati’s father, King Sobhuza II, and none have been allowed since. A number of opposition figures and students were arrested and mobile phones impounded by the police.

Protesters In Swaziland
Since then things appear to have quietened down, but that is only on the surface as there has been virtually no response from the Government or King and certainly no indication of any inclination to change.

This will, of course, only add fuel to the fire, until finally this parasitic monarchy and government are swept away. A wiser monarch would invest in a free democratic system and remove himself from political control now. We won’t hold our breath!

I will leave the last word to Nelson Mandela: “Many of our traditional leaders are also not aware of the lessons of history. They do not seem to know that there were once absolute monarchs in the world who did not share power with their subjects ……… Had these monarchs clung stubbornly to their absolute powers they would long have disappeared from the scene.” Nelson Mandela “Conversations With Myself”

Bahrain financial woes worsened by Libya - UPI.com

Bahrain financial woes worsened by Libya - UPI.com | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
MANAMA, Bahrain, July 11 (UPI) -- Bahrain's financial problems from political unrest are being made worse by investment links to embattled Libya, a widely known issue in the financial industry that came to the fore as Moody's downgraded Arab Banking Corp., the kingdom's banking giant.
Earlier this year Bahrain suffered downgrades of its sovereign debt ratings by in response to the government's violent crackdown on political activists.
The ABC downgrades could be more far-reaching, however, because of very large Libyan stake in the bank, analysts said.
