Injured Freedom Protester in Karranah 8/18/2011 | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

These munitions are not to be shot at people's heads/faces/necks/groin!  This is from the direction of the manufacturer!  If the intent of the SF's is not to do grave bodily injury, then the AEP L60A1 Impact Round should be used!
'This was introduced in June 2005 to replace the L21A1. It was developed to              reduce the risk of inflicting death or serious injury from a head strike, and achieves

this by incorporating a hollow nose.'

The fact that the SF's are choosing to NOT use the comparatively safe munition is a statement of intent to do grave bodily harm....defacto!  #DOCUMENT  #BICI

Female Teacher on Hunger Strike in Bahrain Hospitalized | Human Rights First

Female Teacher on Hunger Strike in Bahrain Hospitalized | Human Rights First | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

In July, Human Rights First profiled Jalila al-Salman, a Bahraini teacher who has been detained since March for her alleged role in coordinating a teachers’ strike. We are very concerned to hear from local human rights defenders that Jalila was hospitalized today for chest pains following 10 days on hunger strike. Among the handful of women still in detention in Bahrain, Jalila and fellow prisoner, Roula Al Saffar, the Head of the Bahrain Nursing Society, have undergone a joint hunger strike to protest their continued detention and ill treatment. There are reports that Jalila has been severely tortured.

'Arab Spring' Inspires Protests in Europe & America

'Arab Spring' Inspires Protests in Europe & America | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

...

"People assumed that somehow the Middle East was different and that was based on assumptions that somehow Islam is different, 'It's not like us.' And that was an assumption that underpinned the war on terror, too. And I think what's so wonderful about the Arab Spring is that it's disproving that assumption. It's showing that Arabs are just a democratic as everyone else," noted Kaldor.

Just as the Arab Spring was building momentum, protests also erupted in parts of Europe.

In Athens, thousands of people demonstrated against the Greek government's package of spending cuts and privatizations - taking over Syntagma Square outside parliament.

"It's all about, I think, a failure of representation, a feeling that the political class is one class, 'We can't influence them, it's outrageous that they're suddenly saying that we have to pay for what the banks did.' And I think that there's a similar feeling of outrage in the Arab world," added Kaldor. "So I think there are very many similarities between what's happening in Europe and what's happening in the Arab world."

In London, British protesters railed against their government's austerity measures.

Rights panel shuts Bahrain office

Rights panel shuts Bahrain office | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

An international commission probing the recent unrest in Bahrain has closed its doors after a crowd stormed its office in Manama and clashed with staff.

They were angered by media reports that the panel had cleared the authorities of committing abuses during a crackdown on protests in February and March.

Nonviolence is the hardest thing to do when confronted with the violence of the Regime!  This is the tactic of the Regime, goad the protesters to violence, then anything the Regime does can be justified as keeping the peace of society.  Stay peaceful but forceful in your demand for freedoms, and democratic reforms and answer the violence of the regime with ROSES!  THE WORLD WILL SEE  WHO IS THE AGRESSOR AND WHO ARE THE RIGHTEOUS!

Amnesty calls on Egypt to drop charges against activist for Twitter comments | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Landmark freedom of expression case:  Heba Morayef, an Egypt researcher with Human Rights Watch, said that the case highlighted the council's deliberate intimidation of critics. "The charges against Mahfouz all exist in the Egyptian penal code, even though insulting public officials – including the use of strong words – is allowed under international human rights," she said. "This highlights the need to review all repressive laws used by the government to stifle freedoms of speech, association, and assembly – all of which are under attack."

Turkey: jets in new strikes on PKK | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Turkish warplanes have hit rebel Kurdish bases in northern Iraq for the second night, the separatists and Turkish media say.

The strikes on the bases used by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) follow an attack by the separatists that killed nine Turkish troops.

A PKK spokesman told the AFP there were no casualties from the raids.

The Turkish military earlier said it would press ahead with strikes until the rebels were "rendered ineffective".
