Shiite Muslim doctors look back with horror at months of torture and demand a neutral hearing.
DUBAI — Dozens of Bahraini Shiite employees fired over pro-democracy protests rallied on Wednesday demanding a return to work, a day after authorities said 181 would be reinstated. Doctors, some contesting sentences of five to 15 years, nurses, teachers, oil and aluminium workers and civil servants gathered outside the labour ministry, an AFP correspondent said. Many Shiite employees were either dismissed or suspended indefinitely in the wake of a brutal crackdown on a Shiite-led month-long protest in February and March. According to Bahrain's labour union, 377 civil servants were dismissed, and 171 out of 449 suspended remained so. At the government-owned Alba aluminium company, 405 were suspended. "They've dismissed the elite of this country," said consultant orthopaedic surgeon Ali Alekri, wearing his doctor's gown and carrying a Bahraini flag.

Interview with Dr. Ghassan Dheif and Dr. Zahra Al-Sammak, two of the medical professionals on trial in Bahrain. All Prisoners of Conscience in Bahrain must be released with all bogus charges dropped!
Doctors have been tortured and given long prison sentences for giving medical care to anti-government protesters.
Dr Fatima Haji and Dr Nada Dhaif told Radio 5 live what they made of the appeal of their sentences. The Al-Khalifas trial of the medics healing the protesters after the barbarous crackdown at Pearl Square is comical in its absurdity! The regime and its minions have lost all sense of credibility and legitimacy ! The Bahrain Justice system is the laughing stock of the World!
Bahraini doctors on Monday will face a retrial on charges of attempting to topple the monarchy and inciting hatred against the regime during the protests, quashed in March. The 20 medics, some of whom were forced to make televised confessions against each other, face prison sentences of up to 15 years for their involvement in the protests. [After the release of the BICI documents and recomendations, the reigme continues its oppression! There is no contrite spirit in the Al-Khalifas for what they have done and caused against their own citizenry! Beyond the violations of International Law, beyond the violations of Bahraini Law, this is a violation of Allah's Law as delivered by the Prophet: compasion, forgiveness, and a muslim helping fellow muslims! ] Yasqot Hamad!
Medical staff from Bahrain, who have been given lengthy jail sentences following unrest in the Gulf kingdom, have been speaking out about their harsh punishments. .... She said: "And he was telling me, do you know, do you remember, this guy how we found him? I will kill you. I will first rape you. "I will let every single person in this room rape you and then I will kill you and I will leave your dead body to be rotting in a trash can very far away from here so your family will find you after weeks and nobody will even know what's happened to you." [Al-Khalifas and their SF attack dogs are bad Muslims: They don't help fellow Muslims!.......Not what the Prophet taught, I believe! ]
The Bahraini doctors duty to Allah..... The Bahraini doctors duty to Humanity...... The Bahraini doctors duty to Bahrainis....... far exceeds any 'duty' to a supposed criminal 'king!' All prisoners of conscience must be released unequivocally with all charges dropped! Yasqot Hamad!
There were reports out more than a month ago saying as much. And at the time, it was hard for the Bahraini regime to employ the “bad apple” excuse because the princess had in fact been accused of administering such torture. Some of the medical professionals who had been detained for the crime of treating as patients those protesters who had been injured by the Bahraini security force’s crackdown claimed they had been beaten with sticks and rubber hoses, given electric shocks to the face with cables, sexually abuses, etc. All of the abuse was on the discriminated Shia majority and often explicitly racist, as one nurse recalled being screamed at with “Shia pig!” But to be clearer still, Bahrain has long engaged in torture in its time as a US ally. One year before the Arab Spring protests broke out, Human Rights Watch released a report noting torture on the rise despite a decade of promises from the regime for reform. The torture included “electro-shock devices, suspension in painful positions, and beatings” while many detainees reported being threatened with rape or murder, or that it would be done to their families.

Bahrain Retrial for Medics Moves to Civilian Court... Rescheduled for Nov. 28, 2011
Bahraini Shia must treat the wounded at home, outside the hospital, for fear of the Government and their GCC henchmen....... [Superglue is a good alternative to stitching! It is somewhat more toxic than its true medical counterpart, but it is effective. I treat at home too...]

Bahrain: Sit in front of the Ministry of Labor 30-11-2011 in support of the medics on trial!
Prosecutors in the retrial of 20 medics convicted of trying to overthrow the government of Bahrain produced boxes of weapons Monday... The weapons included swords, hammers, chains and machine guns - and prompted incredulous laughter among the defendants. But the medics later reacted with much more anger, saying during a break in the proceedings they had never seen the weapons in their lives. "That evidence is being fabricated," said Dr. Fatima Haji.
There is hope that, given the recent report of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry that openly criticized the Bahrain Governments crackdown on pro-democracy protesters, that the charges will be dropped. However it remains to be seen as to whether the Government will indeed implement the recommendations made in the report. Dr. Fatima Haji, one of the 20 Doctors being tried said: "We have had these false charges hanging around our necks for the past few months and the emotional and physical stress we have gone through has caused so many problems. We have been unable to work, due to the charges, and we are living each day not knowing if it will be the last time we see our children and families for up to 15 years. We are pleased that the international pressure has led to our case being heard again, but we hope and pray that justice will be done and all the charges will be dropped. We are medics and all we want to do is help people regardless of their political, religious or any other belief. The international support we have received has been very warming and we hope that it will work to force the Government to drop these hurtful and untrue accusations."

Doctors and nurses in the Middle East have a long and proud tradition of treating the ill, regardless of the situation. In ninth-century Baghdad, for example, Hunayn ibn Ishaq was the Caliph’s physician. The Caliph asked this physician to prepare a poison to kill his enemies. The physician refused, risking his life, and was eventually jailed for one year. After serving his sentence, the Caliph inquired as to why he refused. The physician replied, “My profession is instituted for the benefit of humanity and limited to their relief and cure.” So the doctors and other healthcare providers in Bahrain who treated the injured demonstrators were acting not only in the noblest tradition of the Hippocratic Oath but also in keeping with centuries-old Arab tradition. Medical ethics requires all physicians to be medically neutral toward those they treat.
