Syria rebels 'beheaded a Christian and fed him to the dogs' as fears grow over Islamist atrocities

Syria rebels 'beheaded a Christian and fed him to the dogs' as fears grow over Islamist atrocities | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

...The 60-year-old Carmelite nun claims the west has turned a blind eye to growing evidence of a ‘fifth column’ of fanatics within the rag-tag ranks that make up the Free Syrian Army that they back to oust Assad.

One of the most effective fighting forces is the Jabat Al-Nusra, which has an ideology similar to Al Qaeda.

‘The uprising has been hijacked by Islamist mercenaries who are more interested in fighting a holy war than in changing the government,’ she said.

‘It has turned into a sectarian conflict. One in which Christians are paying a high price.’

The rebel attacked the northern town of Ras Al-Ayn, on the Turkish border, last month. The fighters entered the Christian quarter, ordering civilians to leave and leaving their homes.

‘More than 200 families were driven out in the night,’ Sister Agnes-Miriam says. ‘People are afraid. Everywhere the deaths squads stop civilians, abduct them and ask for ransom, sometimes they kill them.’

Threat: Sister Agnes-Mariam said that rebel fighters, pictured, are targeting Christians in Syria in a bid to make it a Muslim state

Militants wearing black bandanas of Al Qaeda recently laid siege to the Monastery of St James the Mutilated, located between Damascus and Homs, for two days in an attempt to prevent Christmas celebrations, the nun claims.

An estimated 300,000 Christians have been displaced in the conflict, with 80,000 forced out of the Homs region alone, she claims.

Many have fled abroad raising fears that Syria’s Christian community may vanish - like others across Middle East, the birthplace of Christianity.....

UN condemns Indonesia's increasing violence against Shiites

UN condemns Indonesia's increasing violence against Shiites | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

JAKARTA — The UN human rights chief condemned Tuesday violence and discrimination against Christians and Muslim minorities like Shiites in Indonesia, the world's biggest Muslim-majority nation.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said she had met with leaders of Christian communities, as well as Islamic minority Shiite and Ahmadiyah sects, all of which have been targeted by hardliners in recent years.
"I was distressed to hear accounts of violent attacks, forced displacement, denial of identification cards and other forms of discrimination and harassment against them," she told reporters in the capital Jakarta.
She warned Indonesia risked losing its culture of diversity and tolerance "if firm action is not taken to address increasing levels of violence and hatred towards minorities and narrow and extremist interpretations of Islam".....

VIDEO: Obama-backed jihadists in Syria behead priest as crowd chants allahu akbar

VIDEO: Obama-backed jihadists in Syria behead priest as crowd chants allahu akbar | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Obama is giving these savages "lethal weapons" and arms. I posted on the killing of this priest on June 28th when jihadists attacked a Christian village. I was unaware that they had beheaded him. "Catholic Online believes it is very important the world knows that Christians are being murdered for their faith, and that martyrdom isn't an ancient phenomenon." So why did the Catholic Diocese of Worcester cave to vicious jihad mouthpieces and libelists like Nathan Lean and cancel talks by Robert Spencer? The Catholic church must answer for that....

Synopsis of the Work of the Cardinal Kung Foundation

Synopsis of the Work of the Cardinal Kung Foundation | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

The constitution of the Chinese government guarantees its citizens "religious freedom." However, since the Chinese Government views religion as a threat to its power, it restricts religious activities to only government-sanctioned organizations and registered places of worship. It also actively seeks to stamp out those religious activities that are not government-sanctioned. The Chinese Religious Affairs Bureau screens religious groups for official approval or disapproval, monitors membership in these organizations, controls locations of religious meetings and training, selects religious hierarchy, censors publication of religious materials, and funds religious activities. Those religious groups that do not submit to the government guidelines and are not willing to allow a secular and government agency to dictate its religious activities face severe consequences: surprise raids, heavy fines, imprisonment, and torture. ...
