Bahrain Cracks Down on Freedom

Bahrain Cracks Down on Freedom | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

The ruling Al Khalifa monarchy is one of the world’s most brutal dictatorships. It’s also a valued US ally. Bahrain is home to America’s Fifth Fleet.
Imperial priorities matter most. Washington backs Bahraini harshness. State terror is policy. Murder, torture, lawless imprisonments, and daily atrocities get tacit support.
Bahrain ruthlessly wages war on freedom. Fundamental human and civil rights are spurned. Activists, protesters, medical professionals treating them when injured, independent journalists, and others supporting right over might are brutalized and imprisoned.
Nabeel Rajab is one of Bahrain’s best. He’s a prominent human rights leader. Activism got him targeted. His resume includes many impressive credentials. In 1999, he and others co-founded the Bahrain Human Rights Society.
In 2002, he, Abdulhadi Alkhawaja, and others co-founded the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR). Authorities terrorized its members for years. Nonetheless, it remains viable.
It promotes civil, political, and economic freedom, ending racial discrimination, and universal human and civil rights. Bahraini despots equate these principles with terrorism.
Last August, Bahrain’s Lower Criminal Court sentenced Nabeel to three years in prison. Supporting right over wrong in the emirate is dangerous. Expressing democratic views is criminalized. So is championing social justice publicly.
King Hamad calls peaceful protests “foreign plots.” Nabeel and others like him put their lives on the line for years. Bahraini activists face arrests, harsh interrogations, torture, and imprisonment. The mainstream media largely ignores it. ....

Minister of Education… this is how I was raped! | EBOHR | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

.....

Do you remember, O Minister Naimi when you said in your speech on the occasion of Teacher’s Day which falls on October 5, 2012:
“To improve the conditions of teachers and improve the services provided to them is a priority of the ministry”.
Does slashing the livelihoods of your employees for several months and still deducting their salaries considered improving the conditions of teachers? Does interrogating them for more than once and subjecting them to prison and rape considered as improving the services provided to them? Does appointing half of the ministry staff in conducting investigations with the other half considered of the priorities of the ministry?
And can a teacher like me if time revised itself but only to ascend the door of your ministry and call for the umpteenth time to put you on an international trial and call to overthrow the top of this corrupted pyramid of power. And until that time arrives -that justice will always prevail- the revolution shall continue, because dignity is in the land and not in the body.

بحرين تايمز: Bahrain: Where Your Last Name & Religion Are Crimes

بحرين تايمز: Bahrain: Where Your Last Name & Religion Are Crimes | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

The title is not an exaggeration, it is a fact in this country, the latest martyr is an example of the brutality and backward mindset of the dictatorship in Bahrain.

A sick man being dragged out of his hospital bed because of his phone ringtone which simply mentions the Bahraini revolution and/or Shiism, and when they check his name things get worst as he shares the same last name as a leading opposition figure "Mushaima".

To the Bahraini regime he is guilty of something, they don't know what it is but time will tell. So they put him in jail for a while and suddenly he is charged with protesting next to Bahrain Financial Harbor while the paperwork shows that he was hospitalized during that time.

The attorneys try their best to get him out of jail because of his sickness however Bahrain Judiciary system is controlled by Al Khalifa regime so they receive the same answer over and over "NO".

Mohammed Mushaima dies in police custody after ignoring his disease for over a year.

Mohammed you and over 100 martyrs are symbols of injustice in this country.

Mohammed you and over 100 martyrs are proof that Bahraini blood is cheap and Saudi oil is a replacement for freedom and human rights.

Mohammed you and over 100 martyrs are the price to get this regime out of power and put on trial.

Mohammed you and over 100 martyrs will be the reason USA and EU will lose their dictatorship allies one by one in the region.

Mohammed you and over 100 martyrs are proof that this regime does not want reform and the international community can suck it.

Mohammed you and over 100 martyrs are the light behind the darkness because blood does not create a constitutional monarchy it creates an electric chair for the dictators.

Mohammed you and over 100 martyrs are the reason I say "Down Down Hamad".

The Barbarous treatment in Bahrain's 'Jaw' prison!

The Barbarous treatment in Bahrain's 'Jaw' prison! | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

I've talked previously about Jaw but today I want to mention some specifics of the ugliness of that prison.
In Jaw, when some mercenary wants to act out his  perversions, he  simply takes a  prisoner from the cell and rapes him.  When mercenaries torture prisoners with electric shocks, they target the prisoner's genitals.  In Jaw prison,  criminal and  prisoner of conscience are housed together to separate the politicical prisoners.  In Jaw you have one phone call to your family  per week.  When you want a familial visit you have to ask the officer and wait for his approval of the request.  In Jaw,  camphor is mixed with milk and tea which causes infertility over time.  In Jaw,  any disagreement with Jaw prison guards leads to solitary confinement in a cell one meter in size.  In Jaw, prisoners remain inside their cells for 20 hours and are not allowed out except for  4 hours a day.In Jaw, there  are no medical specialists for any serious cases.  Anything serious must be  taken to a military hospital.  In Jaw they strip prisoners naked and search them by hand after return from  a family visit ,Court, or the hospital.  In Jaw,  if a prisoner is  ill he must register his name and await  approval from  the officer.  If  approval comes, it is days late and the prisoner's status has already deteriorated.  In Jaw there are no Bahraini guards,  all guards are naturalized mercenaries,  young of age and experienced in torture.  PLEASE HELP THE PRISONERS OF CONSCIENCE IN JAW PRISON IN BAHRAIN!  PLEASE RAISE THEIR VOICE AS YOUR OWN AND SPEAK OUT AND SPREAD AWARENESS OF THE INHUMANE TREATMENT OF THE AL-KHALIFA REGIME !

Bahrain Municipal Council Member is shot by AlKhalifa terrorists! | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Forces of the Bahraini regime targeted a member of the Municipal Council, Sadiq Rabea, shooting at him with birdshot gun causing serious injuries. The incident took place whilst regime forces were brutally suppressing a peaceful pro-democracy protest in Sitra Island.

Shotgun pellets riddled Rabea's back, neck and ear causing heavy bleeding. He is currently without medical treatment as hospitals refused to treat the injured Rabea despite his injuries that were deliberately caused by the regime forces.

Such attacks are a regular occurrence in Bahrain where regime forces systematically repress peaceful citizens in order to prevent them from exercising their right to protest and freely express their opinions.

U.N. rights team to visit Bahrain next week over crackdown | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

(Reuters) - U.N. Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay is sending a team of experts to Bahrain next week to discuss how the Gulf state can improve its rights record amid concerns over Manama's decision to revoke the nationality of 31 people and ban public protests.

Bahrain's government invited the four experts to assess the kingdom's need to improve its track record on the issue, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said in a statement late on Friday.

They will focus on the judicial system as well as on accountability for present and past human rights violations and follow up on a preliminary mission that took place last December, it said.

The BCHR Holds the King Responsible for the Spread of the Culture of Impunity which Has Claimed the Lives of Tens of Victims | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

31 Oct 2012

The Bahrain Center for Human Rights reached compelling and extremely worrying facts, after having prepared a deep report (study) by both the Monitoring and Research Committees in the Center, looking into the cases of impunity and lack of accountability to members of the ruling family and officials in the security forces and the army who were involved in gross violations of human rights, that violate both local and international law, by committing crimes of extrajudicial killings, arbitrary executions, deprivation of life, brutal torture, mock trials and the use of excessive force. This is after the Authority in Bahrain backed with forces from the Gulf states (Peninsula Shield) - mostly from Saudi Arabia - crushed the vast national uprising that was affected by the Arab Spring and that calls for freedom and democracy in February and March 2011 and thereafter until the writing of this report. ....

5 Bomb Blasts Hit Bahraini Capital - Al Khalifa terrorists are suspects... | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

....

Opposition politician Matar Matar of the Shi'ite party Wefaq said he doubted that opposition activists were behind Monday's attacks, noting that leading Shi'ite clerics had called on followers to avoid escalating the conflict with the government.

He suggested the police or military might have been responsible, or a rogue unit.

"This incident is strange - why would anyone target workers?" he said. "I'm worried that police and military are losing control of their units or it is (preparation) before declaring martial law."

Maryam al-Khawaja, acting head of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights, said: "As always, we condemn violence but, given the Bahraini authorities' background in spreading disinformation, we call for an independent investigation into the deaths of the two migrant workers."

Khawaja, who is based in Denmark, said the attacks were "not grounds to start a campaign of collective punishment, arbitrary arrests, and torture, as we've seen happen before". ....

Bahraini human rights activists who went to Geneva to tell the U.N. Human Rights Council (HRC) about the kingdom's ongoing government crackdown are again being targeted, this time in the wake of last week's conclusion to Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process. In May, several activists were threatened on social media and criticized in government-friendly newspapers because they appeared in Geneva to participate in the UPR. At that time, Laura Dupuy Lasserre, president of the HRC, reminded the Bahraini government that "we are all duty bound to ensure that nobody is persecuted on his return to his country for having participated in meetings of the human rights council or other bodies." Bahrain clearly didn't understand her message. ...

No political reform has been undertaken while the number of political detainees has reached new levels. ...

A heartbreaking story from Jaw prison in #Bahrain: Rape of a detainee by a prison officer

A heartbreaking story from Jaw prison in #Bahrain: Rape of a detainee by a prison officer | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

On one night the officer in charge came to the prison, opened the cells and started threatening the prisoners there, it was something unusual but the detainees stayed silent while he shouts. They didn't know that he was checking the detainees for his pervert needs.

Then he ordered to close all the cells but one, he chose a good looking young man and ordered him to take off his clothes, the detainee refused to do that, this happened in front of all the detainees there! The officer insisted and asked him again and again for several times and the detainee kept refusing. The officer then ordered the other policemen to take the detainee out of the cell, his cell mates tried to prevent them from doing that but they couldn't stop them.

The officer raped the young man in the prison and all other prisoners could hear his screams for help! The other detainees went mad and in an attempt to make him stop they started to make noises and hit their heads in the doors, one of them was hysterical and passed out while trying to break the door.

The young man was out of his cell bleeding, other detainees where screaming and crying for help, "Allahu Akbar | God is great" they shouted but there's no one who could help!

The prison officer didn't get enough! He ordered to punish the detainees by bringing another guy to rape him! Once he opened another cell, there was a huge fuss and the police used force to make the detainees calm down. He also used special forces to interfere and beat the detainees, and then they took the injured ones to get medical treatment in another prison - Alqalaa - medical facility.

The detainees started a hunger strike to make the prison authority know that this is not acceptable. They were punished by cutting off the electricity and water, and preventing them from having family visits for several weeks.
