Was this really necessary?  Do these women really pose such a threat to the Regime, or to the occupants of City Center, or to SF's?

Are their ideas of freedom so infectious that they destabilize society?

I think they are NOT so threatening, or deleterious.  They are Great Champions of Freedom!

Bahrain activists jailed following 'politically motivated' trials | Amnesty International

Bahrain activists jailed following 'politically motivated' trials | Amnesty International | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
The trials of 15 activists convicted over their involvement in pro-reform protests in Bahrain that began in February, were politically motivated and unfair, Amnesty International said today.

A military court in Bahrain’s capital city Manama has over the last few days sentenced the 15 activists, in two separate cases, to between one and four years imprisonment for “participating in illegal demonstrations and inciting hatred against the regime” during popular protests in February and March.

One of the activists, Fadhila Mubarak Ahmad, is the first woman protester to be convicted as a result of the recent unrest in Bahrain. She was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment.

“These trials and convictions represent yet further evidence of the extent to which the rights to freedom of speech and assembly are now being denied in Bahrain,” said Malcolm Smart, Amnesty International’s director for Middle East and North Africa.

Waad speaks out in favor of Bahraini Women's Rights!

Waad’s Women’s Affairs Office Condemns Unjustified Violence Against Female Protesters

Women’s Affairs Office at The National Democratic Action "Waad" expresses its deep concern regarding the excessive use of force against peaceful demonstrators yesterday and today as well as arbitrary arrests exercised against women in specific. The Office demands the immediate release of all detainees in the rallies that began from Bahrain’s villages demanding democracy and human justice.

The decision made by the prosecutor to imprison 38 women for 45 days and 7 girls (minors) for 3 days pending investigation, is a violation of all norms and human rights that give every citizen the right to express their opinion through peaceful means. The Women’s Affairs Office also condemns the unnecessarily repressive and violent approach that was adopted by the Ministry of Interior against the protestors during their arrest, treating them like criminals and publishing their photos in the official media in flagrant violation of human rights enshrined in the Constitution and all international conventions on Human Rights, which affirm that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Insisting on using security and force in addressing political and constitutional issues instead of serious dialogue as demanded by political opposition, will cause the country more political and sectarian tension, ultimately leading into a complex and dangerous phase that will be difficult to solve.

The state of law and institutions should apply the law on everyone without any discrimination. Moreover, the Constitution, the National Action Charter and all international charters grant citizens the right to express their opinions in all peaceful means. These charters impose the protection of demonstrators, as opposed to confronting them with excessive violence, collective punishment, tear gas, sound bombs, live bullets and internationally-forbidden shotgun bullets.
