The International Labour Organization (ILO) Listed on the agenda of the meetings of the session (312) of the Board of the International Labour Organization meeting in Geneva from 3 to Nov18, 2011, a complaint  made by 12 labor organizations against Bahrain.  The  complaint concerned the  non observance by Bahrain of the Discrimination (Employment and Occupation) Convention, 1958 (No. 111), made by delegates to the 100th Session (2011) of the International Labour Conference under article 26 of the ILO Constitution.

EI, together with Amnesty International, urgently calls on its member organisations to appeal for the release of Jalila al-Salman and Mahdi 'Issa Mahdi Abu Dheeb, Vice-President and President of the Bahraini Teachers Association (BTA) arrested along with several other board members of the BTA. While we understand their colleagues have been released, Jalila al-Salman and Mahdi 'Issa Mahdi Abu Dheeb remain incarcerated awaiting trial in a civilian court. EI also condemns government’s action to dissolve the BTA and replace its leaders with others more amenable to the regime.

For the College to maintain its links with the regime and to ostensibly play down the Bahraini state’s continuing and serious mistreatment of doctors during the ongoing popular dissent is most regrettable. The College’s public statements on the matter were, in my view, too little, too late, self-serving and inadequate.
I think therefore that it would be impossible for me to teach — of all things — ethics and law in the College at the present time and I must therefore decline the offer to contribute to next year’s MSc.

Seven days have passed since Dr Masaud Jahromi, Chairman of the engineering department at Ahlia University in Bahrain, was arrested. He was taken from his bed by Bahraini Security Forces on 14th April 2011 at 2:30AM.
