Saudi Claims Alleged Iranian Plotter Also Orchestrated Bahrain Unrest

Despite doubts about an alleged Iranian plot, an adviser to the Saudi government seemed to up the ante by claiming that one of the accused plotters was also involved in a conspiracy to incite protests in Bahrain earlier this year.

[Claims of Iranian meddling in Bahrain are nothing more than fading Regime's futile attempts to retain power by raising the quandry of sectarian strife.  This does evidence, however, that Saudi Arabia is complicit in any assault on Iran that is to come  eminently..........I think there will be a move against Iran's nuclear enrichment locations soon....]

PressTV - Cleric slams Qur'an sacrilege in Bahrain | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
“They (Saudi and Bahraini troops) set fire to Qur'ans and destroyed nearly 30 major mosques,” he said about the unfortunate incident.

The remarks come as new footage coming out of Bahrain shows the continued destruction of mosques and brutal crackdown on protesters by the Saudi-backed forces of the Persian Gulf state.

Bahrain's main opposition party, al-Wefaq, says that over 30 holy sites have been destroyed since the anti-regime protests began in mid-February.

German Police Working for EADS: Berlin Opposition Livid about Saudi Border Deal - SPIEGEL ONLINE - News - International

German Police Working for EADS: Berlin Opposition Livid about Saudi Border Deal - SPIEGEL ONLINE - News - International | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
The opposition in Berlin was already outraged about a plan to sell 200 tanks to Saudi Arabia. Now, however, a new deal involving the training of Saudi border patrol officers is raising additional questions. And some say the German constitution may have been violated. ...
Volker Beck, the Greens' human rights spokesman in parliament, argues that the same reasons for opposing the tank deal -- the fact that Saudi Arabia lies in a region facing ongoing pro-democracy protests -- also apply to the police mission. "It is our job to support the democratic movement in the Arab world," Beck told SPIEGEL ONLINE. "We can't allow German federal police officers to be directly involved in combating this movement."
....
But opposition to the deal within the SPD is also on the rise, despite Steinmeier's role in putting it together. "We can't allow our federal police to be viewed as EADS lackeys," Michael Hartmann, an SPD member of the Bundestag's Committee on Internal Affairs, told SPIEGEL ONLINE. Hartmann calls for the "quickest possible and complete explanation" and for the deal to be brought before parliament. Anything less would be "a breach of the constitution," he says.

Saudi Regime Dishonoring Islam in Bahrain | İslâmi Davet – Islamic Invitation

Saudi Regime Dishonoring Islam in Bahrain | İslâmi Davet – Islamic Invitation | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
Not only has the Saudi regime disgraced itself by invading Bahrain, but it also has insulted Islamic values by raiding and destroying religious centers in the small Persian Gulf state, an international rights activist says.
“By destroying a mosque — which the Qur’an has dubbed as the home of Allah — the Saudis (have) not just dishonored themselves, they have dishonored Islam,” Chairman of the Committee against Torture in Bahrain Rodney Shakespeare told Press TV on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, new footage from Bahrain showed a mosque destroyed in the northern town of Kawarah in attacks by Saudi forces.
The video also displayed burned pages of the holy Qur’an buried under masses of debris.
“The Saudi government has deliberately ordered the burning, [while it] claims to be the guardian of Islam’s holy places of Mecca and Medina,” Shakespeare pointed out.

tehran times : German-Saudi tank deal 'cynical'

tehran times : German-Saudi tank deal 'cynical' | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
Many opposition leaders called the arms deal illegal, because it goes against German guidelines that forbid the export of weapons and other military equipment to regimes which violate human rights and to regions facing military crisis.

Saudi Arabia is “one of the worse despotic regimes in the Arab world, which regularly violates human rights and represses democratic movements”, said Hans Christian Stroebele, Green party member of the national parliament, or Bundestag, and member of its foreign affairs committee.

In addition, Stroebele said, “Saudi Arabia is the protector of other similar regimes in the Arab world, and helps to obliterate democratic movements in the region, as it did in Bahrain some weeks ago.” There is no question, Stroebele added, that according to German law the export of weapons to Saudi Arabia cannot be allowed.

Several German laws ban the export of weapons to such regimes. Article 6 of the “control of weapons of war act” says that export is to be forbidden if there is a “risk that the weapons would be used in an operation to disturb peace” and if it “would violate the (German government's) obligations according to international law”. Another German guideline forbids the export of weapons to “regions facing military crisis” or to “despotic regimes”.

Germany/Saudi Arabia: Don’t Sell Out on Human Rights | Human Rights Watch

Germany/Saudi Arabia: Don’t Sell Out on Human Rights | Human Rights Watch | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
The German government should, at a minimum, obtain verifiable guarantees from the Saudi government that military equipment Germany exports will not be used in violation of international human rights and humanitarian law prior to exporting the tanks, Human Rights Watch said.
"The sight of Saudi tanks rolling into Bahrain signaled the start of Bahrain's crackdown on peaceful pro-democracy protesters there," said Christoph Wilcke, senior Saudi Arabia researcher at Human Rights Watch. "Saudi reformers may well interpret selling tanks to Saudi Arabia at this time as German support for repressive regimes."

Time to change U.S. policy toward Saudi Arabia – Global Public Square - CNN.com Blogs | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

American foreign policy is often torn between shared values and strategic interests. Nowhere is the divide more pronounced than in U.S. dealings with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Although Saudi Arabia has an egregious record on human rights, a major arms deal is being finalized between the country and the U.S. Indeed, Saudi Arabia appears positioned to remain a stable center of U.S. policy in the region, now more than ever.

Saudi-led sacrilege in Bahrain | The Shia Post | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
Newly-released footages from Bahrain show a vandalized mosque, which has been attacked by the Saudi Arabia-backed Bahraini forces.
The forces attacked the Imam Sadeq mosque in Diraz village — a major mosque in the Persian Gulf island — on Thursday, desecrating copies of the Holy Qur’an and damaging electronic devices.

Regime forces have raided dozens of mosques, schools, sacred sites and even graves in persisting efforts to suppress all opposition since mid-February’s launch of a popular revolution against the regime.

Has Obama Pushed Pakistan Toward Iran?

Has Obama Pushed Pakistan Toward Iran? | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
Not only have the Iranians secured Pakistan as a client, they know Pakistan's dire need for Iranian gas means they will not be leaving Iran's side anytime soon. Some analysts have estimated that gas from Iran provide at least 20 percent of Pakistan's energy needs. Others have suggested 50 percent. ....

There is also the question of Saudi Arabia. Islamabad has very close relations with Riyadh. In Washington arms control and Middle East policy analyst circles, it has long been speculated that, should Iran become a nuclear power, Pakistan would be obliged to provide a nuclear umbrella to protect Saudi Arabia, which financed part of Pakistan's nuclear program. But this is only a theory, of course. What's not a theory is the fact that Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have close economic and political relations that are far more extensive and important to Pakistan than anything Iran could offer. In the ensuing cold war between Iran and Saudi Arabia, Pakistan is unlikely to leave the Saudi side.
