The Cutting Edge News

The Cutting Edge News | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey threatened on September 8 to have Turkish warships escort aid ships travelling from his country to the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. Tensions in the eastern Mediterranean have been high due to the distinct chill in military and diplomatic relations between Israel and Turkey.
Turkey has denounced Israel’s blockade of Gaza ports and has demanded an apology for the deaths of Turkish nationals who were killed in 2010 onboard a pro-Palestinian flotilla by Israeli commandos. Erdogan also said that Turkey had taken steps to stop Israel from unilaterally exploiting natural resources from the eastern Mediterranean, according to Al Jazeera's translation of excerpts of an interview.

Palestine’s Bid for Recognition

Palestine’s Bid for Recognition | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
As Mr. Serry indicated, Israel’s settlement of Palestinian land continues. In fact throughout this entire 20 year process, colonization has gone on unabated. And, of course, all of it is illegal under the Geneva Conventions.
One of the reasons that restarting any negotiations is so “extremely difficult” is that the Palestinian side has insisted that, as a prerequisite for any new talks, Israel must begin to abide by international law. Israel has refused.
So it might come as something of a surprise to the uninitiated observer that Israel and the United States are pointing fingers at the Palestinians in this affair.

Palestine – Ending the Pretending…Facing the Facts | J-Wire | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
Until the Palestinian Arabs sort themselves out and elect a Government that is prepared to
recognize Israel as the Jewish State and
outlaw any political party that calls for the destruction of Israel
- successful negotiations to conclude a binding and enforceable peace agreement are not remotely possible.
Ms DiCarlo offered little comfort to the Palestinian Arabs when she stated:
“Let me also reiterate that, like every U.S. administration for decades, we do not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity. “

Death in Bethlehem, made in America

Death in Bethlehem, made in America | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
Israeli troops also regularly fire American-made CS gas rounds at Palestinians in Bethlehem itself. Palestinians claim the gas has caused serious breathing difficulties among children after the rounds were fired at stone-throwing youths near Rachel's tomb. The cartridges and gas canisters are labelled "Federal Laboratories, Saltsburg, Pennsylvania 15681" and are stated on the metal to be "long range projectiles 150 yards". The rounds, show the US manufacturers' instructions on the side, contain "tear gas which is highly irritating to eyes, nose, skin and respiratory system". And continue: "If exposed, do not rub eyes, seek medical assistance immediately."

Israel's Lieberman won't quit on apology to Turkey

Israel's Lieberman won't quit on apology to Turkey | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, who has shown willingness to engage Hamas, on Saturday reiterated his view that the blockade is "illegal and inhuman" and insisted Israel must end it as another condition for rapprochement.
"He's not exactly making it easy for us to apologize," said one Netanyahu aide in response.
Turkey, once a rare Muslim ally of the Jewish state, withdrew its ambassador to Israel after the incident in May 2010, suspended defense cooperation and closed its airspace to Israeli military planes.

RAMALLAH, Palestinian Territories — Vandals sprayed graffiti on the walls of a mosque and a university in the West Bank town of Birzeit near Ramallah on Friday in attacks by suspected Israeli settlers.

Palestinian security officials told AFP that "Death to the Arabs" and slogans insulting the Prophet Mohammed were painted in Hebrew and that they suspected settlers were to blame.

It was the third mosque to be daubed with graffiti Hebrew since Monday, when Israeli troops demolished three homes in the settlement outpost of Migron.

Shaath told the Chinese news agency Xinhua on July 30 that the decision to approach the UN and demand recognition of the state of Palestine as a full member of the organization "will be so helpful to the Palestinian cause in all cases no matter what the consequences are."
"Applying to the UN will be fruitful and would at least show the international support to our legitimate rights and our sovereignty on our land. This is really very positive and so important for us and for our just cause," Shaath said.

Support Bassem Tamimi - A Palestinian Political Prisoner

Support Bassem Tamimi - A Palestinian Political Prisoner | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
On 24 March 2011, the Israeli government arrested Bassem Tamimi, a committed organiser of non-violent protests from the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh. Tamimi is charged with 'incitement', 'organising and participating in unauthorized processions', 'solicitation to stone-throwing', 'failure to attend legal summons', and a scandalous charge of 'disruption of legal proceedings', for allegedly giving youth advice on their legal rights during police interrogations.
Bassem Tamimi’s case is a stark example of how the Palestinian people living under the Occupation are being denied their inalienable rights of freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, and the right to a fair trial. Tamimi has been at the forefront of the struggle against the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements onto the village land of Nabi Saleh.
