The Palestine Pearl!: Behind These Doors!

The Palestine Pearl!: Behind These Doors! | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
The hinges of life and death swing. The door opens wide and shuts tight. Darkness and stillness on one side. Light and possible freedom on the other. There is no threshold of decision here. Who lives and who dies in Palestine is not a matter of choice or chance, it is a matter of occupation, brutal oppression, persistent restraints, and constant bombing and sniping.

Palestinian people power could it be a game-changer?    :      Information Clearing House: ICH

Palestinian people power could it be a game-changer?    :      Information Clearing House: ICH | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
“The 750,000 refugees and their descendents, some five million by now, will one day get up and march to the borders of Israel from North, East and South, breach the fences and flood the country.”

In my view getting up and marching to the borders of pre-1967 Israel is what the Palestinians should now do, and not only the Palestinians of the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip prison camp. They should be joined by Palestinian refugees from Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. To guarantee peaceful proceedings on their part, the Palestinian marchers should be completely unarmed – not only no guns, but no stones.

Of course Israel would seek to prevent it happening by banning Palestinians assembling in numbers on the West Bank and, also, by threatening the frontline Arab states with reprisal attacks and even war if they allowed Palestinians in numbers to enter I967 Israeli occupied Arab land from their territories. But with effort and commitment on the part of the Palestinians it could be made to happen.

Just imagine it… Several hundred thousand or better still one or two million Palestinians or more marching peacefully to the 1967 borders.

For what purpose? When they got as far as they could go, they would demand that the governments of the world do whatever is necessary to oblige Israel to stop defying international law and end its illegal occupation of the West Bank and its criminal blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Apartheid

Israeli Apartheid | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
In May, in a closed meeting of many of Israel’s business leaders, Idan Ofer, a holding-company magnate, warned, “We are quickly turning into South Africa. The economic blow of sanctions will be felt by every family in Israel.” The business leaders’ particular concern was the U.N. General Assembly session this September, where the Palestinian Authority is planning to call for recognition of a Palestinian state. Dan Gillerman, Israel’s former ambassador to the United Nations, warned participants that “the morning after the anticipated announcement of recognition of a Palestinian state, a painful and dramatic process of Southafricanization will begin”—meaning that Israel would become a pariah state, subject to international sanctions. In this and subsequent meetings, the oligarchs urged the government to initiate efforts modeled on the Saudi (Arab League) proposals and the unofficial Geneva Accord of 2003, in which high-level Palestinian and Israeli negotiators detailed a two-state settlement that was welcomed by most of the world, dismissed by Israel and ignored by Washington.

Pro-Palestinian 'flytilla' stopped at airports by Israeli security

Pro-Palestinian 'flytilla' stopped at airports by Israeli security | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
In European airports – particularly Charles de Gaulle in Paris – activists barred from boarding their flights held spontaneous protests, shouting "Boycott Israel" and accusing the airlines of bowing to Israel's demands.
"I am absolutely shocked that it is possible that I am being blacklisted without any evidence that I have done anything," Cynthia Beat, a passenger turned away from her flight in Berlin, told Reuters. "Apparently, it is sufficient to state that you would like to go to Palestine, to spend time with Palestinians, in order to be banned from Israel."
......
Israel's global image has appeared increasingly battered since Israeli commandoes stormed a flotilla bound for Gaza last May, killing nine Turkish activists, and dealing a near-fatal blow to Turkish-Israeli relations. The international community condemned Israel for using disproportionate force and pressured Israel to ease its four-year blockade of Gaza, aimed at weakening Islamist group Hamas.
But the blockade is still in force, with the ban on exports preventing a recovery of the economy, and most of the 1.6 million Palestinians living there being confined to the tiny enclave.
