Nabeel Rajab, speaking to the officer before being beaten 6Jan2012

The Takbir or Tekbir (تَكْبِير) is the Arabic term for the phrase Allahu Akbar (الله أكبر). It is usually translated "God is [the] Greatest," or "God is Great". It is a common Islamic Arabic expression. It is used in various contexts by Muslims: in formal prayer, as an informal expression of faith, in times of distress, to express celebration or victory, and to express resolute determination or defiance (especially in politically-charged context).

U.S. concerned about Bahrain activist, urges probe | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Bahrain's largest Shi'ite opposition bloc, al-Wefaq, welcomed the comments by the U.S. official, saying the government needed to be pushed to carry out the panel's recommendations.

"We appreciate this response and the Bahrainis are awaiting actions on the ground," said Wefaq member and former member of parliament Mattar Mattar.

"There is struggle in implementing the recommendations of the BICI and the regime needs to be pressured and monitored to apply it, rather than the international community just believing the regime's fake response, which contradicts the facts on the ground," he added.

Lawyer says prominent Bahraini human rights activist beaten by police | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

He says policemen hit [Nabeel] Rajab on the head and face with sticks and kicked him.

The government says in a statement that police found Rajab “on the ground, injured while participating in an unauthorized march” in Manama.

[The Khalifa regime is already trying to coverup!  'Unauthorized march' ....all free speech, all gatherings of 5 or more, all political expression for democracy is 'Unauthorized.'   This is just the rhetoric of a fascist dictatorship in rapid decline.

Nabeel Rajab's actions are nonviolent civil disobedience acting to garner basic human rights for all Bahrainis, for this he was beaten brutally....

Bahraini HR activist, Nabeel Rajab, beaten by thugs of the Khalifa regime!

Bahraini HR activist, Nabeel Rajab, beaten by thugs of the Khalifa regime! | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

When they started beating him, Rajab said he identified himself and said he was a rights activist.

"They said, 'Are Nabeel Rajab?' I said 'Yes', then they beat me more," pointing out that the men who beat him were Jordanians, Syrians and Pakistanis, dressed as riot police and special forces.

"But the officer was Bahraini. When he saw them beating me, they stopped, because he knew it was too much and they called an ambulance."

At the hospital, Rajab said he was questioned about who had assaulted him, but he brushed off the attempt to find the culprits.

"I told them, 'You will not find the people who beat me. If you will find those people who killed 65 people so far, then you will find the people who beat me,'" said Rajab, referring to those who have been killed since the start of the unrest in February.

With an injured face, head and back, bleeding from the mouth, Rajab said that while he was hospitalised his house was teargassed.

[Don't think for a moment that the police, 'security' forces, GCC forces, or mercenaries have any legitimacy in Bahrain whatsoever!  They are all THUGS!  These thugs have uniforms and riot gear to help blur their individual identities and to facilitate the commisiion of their crimes! ]

Nabeel Rajab: 'This is the image of the United States in our country: that this superpower supports dictators and doesn't want democracy in our region, because they [are] told that democracy would not serve their interests. They were misled by governments in our region that democracy will bring extremists to power who will fight against U.S. interests. Democracy is not against anybody's interests. Democracy is about living together, sharing together, tolerance, working together, and that's what we are fighting for.'
