Israeli Terror: The “Final Solution” to the Palestine Question | Global Research

Israeli Terror: The “Final Solution” to the Palestine Question | Global Research | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

For the past forty-five years the state of Israel has been dispossessing millions of Palestinians living in the Occupied Territories, confiscating their lands, destroying homes, bulldozing orchards and setting-up ‘Jews-only’ colonial settlements serviced by highways, electrical systems and water works for the exclusive use of the settlers and occupying soldiers. The process of Israeli territorial expansion throughout the West Bank and East Jerusalem has greatly accelerated in recent years, converting Palestinian-held territory into non-viable isolated enclaves – like South Africa’s Bantustans – surrounded by the Israeli soldiers who protect violent settler-vigilantes as they assault and harass Palestinian farmers at work in their fields, beat Arab children on their way to school , pelt Palestinian housewives as they hang their laundry and then invade and defecate in Palestinian mosques and churches. ....

The current Israeli offensive began with the gruesome assassination of a prominent Hamas leader, Ahmed Jabari, and immediately escalated into an assault on the entire Palestinian population of Gaza . Secure in the knowledge that the Palestinians had no capacity to retaliate with similar weaponry, the Israeli High Command ordered the systematic destruction of civilian life, workplaces and densely populated neighborhoods. Over 75% of the casualties have been non-combatants; almost half are children, women and elders.

The Israeli propaganda machine and its ‘Fifth Column’ in the US fabricated and repeated the Big Lie: that the Jewish state was ‘defending itself’… Right… with only six (mostly military) deaths and 280 wounded (the majority non-threatening) versus the nearly 200 Palestinians, mostly civilians, slaughtered. The US Zionist power configuration (ZPC), embedded in the policy centers of the US Executive, the Congress and both political parties, parroted this line. All the major US TV networks and print media reproduced verbatim Israeli Foreign Office press handouts about Israel ’s ‘defensive’ … genocide … while entire Palestinian families were being buried under the rubble of their bombed apartments.....

In 2005, Israel disengaged from Gaza. It did so to get Jews out of harm’s way. Palestinian West Bank land was stolen to accommodate them. War was planned with no timeline. Cast Lead followed. Now Operation Pillar of Cloud. More coming. Stay tuned.

Israel Working to Silence the International Press in Gaza | Global Research

Israel Working to Silence the International Press in Gaza | Global Research | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

A Palestinian journalists rights group accused Israel on Sunday of targeting journalists in the Gaza Strip, after Israeli warplanes bombed two media buildings.

Mada says Israel is “trying to silence the press in Gaza and its crimes against journalists must not go unpunished.”

In a statement, the group said it “strongly condemns the renewed Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the direct targeting of a number of journalists and media institutions.”

Israeli airstrikes hit two media headquarters in Gaza City, including the building that houses Ma’an’s Gaza office, early Sunday.

At least six journalists were hurt in the first strike, and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights said 10 journalists and media professionals were hurt in the bombings.

Israel’s army says the buildings are part of “Hamas’ operational communications.”

Israel-Gaza Conflict Reaches Cease-Fire After Egyptians, U.S. Broker Deal

Israel-Gaza Conflict Reaches Cease-Fire After Egyptians, U.S. Broker Deal | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
WASHINGTON -- Israel and Hamas have agreed to a cease-fire in the week-old conflagration in Gaza that has left more than a hundred dead and many more wounded.

The halt in hostilities was announced during a Wednesday press conference in Cairo, Egypt, by the Egyptian foreign minister Mohammed Kamel Amr. He was joined by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has spent the past 18 hours engaged in a whirlwind tour of diplomacy in a hasty attempt to reach a peace deal.

The cease-fire is set to take effect at 9 p.m. Cairo time, or 2 p.m. EST. More than 140 Palestinians, and five Israelis, have been killed in the conflict, which was almost entirely conducted by airstrike, rocket and drone.

Egyptian mediators told Reuters that Hamas believes it has won "guarantees" from the Israeli government to stop assassinating its leaders, and to ease the way for Palestinians to move across the borders of the Gaza Strip. Israelis say that if the rocket fire from Gaza does not stop, they hold the right to redouble their military strikes in the future. ......

FM heads to Vienna to thwart Palestinian UN bid

FM heads to Vienna to thwart Palestinian UN bid | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman warned on Thursday that there would be “far-reaching implications” to the Palestinians’ bid to upgrade their UN status to that of non-member state later this month.

“This unilateral step has broken the rules and crossed a red line,” Liberman said before heading to Vienna to attend an urgent meeting of Israeli ambassadors to Europe.

The emissaries will discuss ways to lobby European governments not to support the plan and to pressure the Palestinian Authority to either delay, or drop, its bid.

Abbas Zaki, a member of the Fatah central committee, denied reports that some Arab countries had been exerting pressure on the PA leadership to refrain from the statehood bid. ....

Imprisoned Palestinian Children Must Be Treated Justly

Imprisoned Palestinian Children Must Be Treated Justly | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
The institutionalized discrimination experienced by 700 Palestinian children prosecuted in Israel's military courts each year is unsustainable and must end.

..

"UK ready to take on Israel over fate of children clapped in irons," read the headline in a leading UK newspaper the morning after the latest report on the treatment of Palestinian children held in military detention was released in London in June. The Foreign Office-funded report -- Children in Military Custody -- was written by a delegation of UK lawyers that included a former Attorney General and a judge of the Court of Appeal, following their visit to Israel and the West Bank last September.

The report, the findings of which have been described as "shocking" and "damning," describes how children as young as 12 years are prosecuted in military courts after being arrested by soldiers in terrifying night-time raids. The report refers to evidence collected by Israeli and Palestinian lawyers, as well as UN agencies, which describes an abusive system in which children are threatened and physically coerced into signing confessions, some of which are written in Hebrew, a language they do not understand. Following their conviction in a military court, most of the children are shipped off to prisons in Israel, in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits their transfer out of the West Bank. Further, the report found that the military's treatment of Palestinian children also violates the Convention on the Rights of the Child in a number of key respects.

Israel sees U.N. majority for Palestine status upgrade

Israel sees U.N. majority for Palestine status upgrade | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

...

The Palestinians want to found a state in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, which Israel captured in the 1967 war. Though Israel quit Gaza in 2005, it claims East Jerusalem as its capital - a move not recognized abroad - and says it would keep swathes of West Bank settlements under any peace deal. The United Nations deems the settlements illegal.

Full U.N. membership for Palestine would require approval by the Security Council, where Israel's ally, the United States, would likely wield its veto given its demand the Palestinians set up their state in agreement with the Jewish state.

So the Palestinians, in what they describe as an interim move, plan to ask the U.N. General Assembly next month to accord them non-member observer status, which would allow them to join a number of U.N. agencies and the International Criminal Court. ...

Palestinian president to meet Israeli vice PM: official

Palestinian president to meet Israeli vice PM: official | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

..Mofaz told reporters this month that he intended to meet Abbas "to examine ways to restart peace negotiations with the Palestinians".

...

"We do not want to raise expectations or lower them. This is not a negotiation meeting. The one responsible for negotiations is the (Israeli) prime minister as well as the official negotiating teams," Erekat said.

He added that the meeting would take place in the Palestinian city of Ramallah.

Mofaz, head of Israel's centrist Kadima party, joined Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition in May to form one of the biggest coalitions in Israeli history, a move that commentators said could give Netanyahu a freer hand to seek peace with the Palestinians.

Negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians broke down in late 2010 in a dispute over Jewish settlement building in the West Bank, and Palestinians have demanded a halt to the construction before talks resume.

Israel says the settlements issue should be resolved in negotiations and rejects any pre-conditions for talks.

Bahrain rights defender Maryam Al-Khawaja pulls out of UNESCO ceremony over honor to Israel's Peres

Bahrain rights defender Maryam Al-Khawaja pulls out of UNESCO ceremony over honor to Israel's Peres | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

....“My father always says that when it comes to human rights, there is no grey area, you both stand for human rights everywhere and against perpetrators of human rights violations or you do not,” Al-Khawaja wrote.

“Without any disrespect intended to your esteemed organization, and the important work you do around the world, as a human rights defender I must respectfully withdraw from this event as I cannot allow myself to take part in legitimizing a person who should be tried for human rights violations, not honored,” Al-Khawaja concluded.

Al-Khawaja attached a list of the human rights violations and war crimes in which Peres is directly implicated, including the 1996 “Operation Grapes of Wrath” invasion of Lebanon while Peres was prime minister. Among the most notorious incidents during that attack, which caused hundreds of thousands to flee their homes, was the Israeli shelling of the UN base at Qana killing more than 100 refugees and UN peacekeepers.

UN and international investigations contradicted Israeli claims that the shelling had been an accident and concluded it had been deliberate.

Peres is also renowned as the “father” of Israel’s clandestine nuclear weapons program, and having held almost every state office in Israel is directly responsible for many policies including colonization of Palestinian land in the occupied territories.

In a 2008 call on the University of Oxford not to honor Peres, PACBI, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, stated, “Peres is implicated in the myriad crimes and international law infringements committed by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory.” ..

Israel never overtly spurned a two-state solution involving land partition and a Palestinian state. But it never acknowledged that West Bank developments had rendered such a solution impossible. Facing a default reality in which a one-state solution seemed the only option, Israel chose a third way—the continuation of the status quo. This unspoken strategic decision has dictated its polices and tactics for the past decade, simultaneously safeguarding political negotiations as a framework for the future and tightening Israel’s control over the West Bank. In essence, a “peace process” that allegedly is meant to bring the occupation to an end and achieve a two-state solution has become a mechanism to perpetuate the conflict and preserve the status quo. ...

Palestine and Israel's shared history.....

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has launched an international campaign to achieve recognition by the United Nations for an independent Palestinian state. Abbas and his international supporters claim that only Israel (with the United States) stands in the way of this act of historical justice, which would finally bring about peace in the Middle East.

This video debunks the Palestinians' claim and shows that Abbas has been lying about the origins and history of the conflict. Palestinian leaders have rejected partition plans that would have given them much more land for their independent state than the Jews were offered for theirs. Rather than being the innocent victims of a "dispossession" at the hands of the Israelis, the Palestinians rejected reasonable compromises and instead pursued their aim of getting rid of the only Jewish state in the world.
