International Law and the Problem of Non-combatants, Civilians in the Baloch War of Independence

International Law and the Problem of Non-combatants, Civilians in the Baloch War of Independence | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
In 2014, Dr. Allah Nizar Baloch, the most respected intellectual-cum-guerrilla commander, in an interview with Tarek Fatah, a Toronto-based columnist, explained, “I am not a terrorist and we are not terrorists. We are fighting for our freedom and our struggle is based on the international law.”  Let us deliberate on the matter.

In a war of liberation, an occupying power always tries to present the rightful opposition to occupation as terrorism. The oppressed is presented falsely as backward, savage, terrorist and violator of human rights. And by doing so, the oppressor sets the stage in the eyes of the international community to justify occupation, oppression and atrocities carried out by the occupying power in the occupied territory. The state machinery and the wealth plundered from the subjugated people are used to conduct the overall operations in order to maintain control and prolong the unjust occupation.

Today, the Pakistani media as part of the state machinery is viciously engaged in a propaganda war against the liberation movement in the occupied Balochistan. The Pakistani state portrays Baloch freedom fighters as “miscreants – alienated Baloch – separatists – terrorists” to malign the true history of a people in struggle for rights and freedom. The case against the Baloch armed resistance as highlighted in the Pakistani press involves baseless accusations of carrying out a campaign of targeting Punjabi settlers in Balochistan. The press alleges that Baloch fighters attack innocent, non-combatant, non-Baloch civilians in Balochistan.  It is understandable that Pakistani media is supporting the state; however, such allegations are totally unfounded and baseless.

Pakistan occupied Balochistan in 1948. Since then the Baloch nation has resisted the unlawful occupation with armed uprisings and political struggles that have continued to date.  In all cases, Pakistan army was used to brutally crush the nationalist movement resulting in the militarization of Balochistan and complete ban on the political process.  Besides military means, there are other state machineries which underpin the Pakistani rule over Balochistan.

Along with the Pakistan army, the notorious Frontier Corps (FC), Makran Constabulary, Police, Levies and intelligence agencies have established basses, check posts, and surveillance networks in the universities, towns, tribal areas, sea ports, and energy-sensitive installations such as Sui in the Bugti area. Testing of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal and WMDs in Chaghai area is part of the grand design to control, exploit and suppress the local populace in the province.

The already precarious situation in Balochistan has been further complicated by the state-sponsored use of religious card against Baloch nationalists. A number of proxy organizations and non-state actors are now actively involved in the targeted killings and enforced disappearances of Baloch leaders, intellectuals, students, and commoners.

Pakistani state-sponsored Talibanization is part of the counterinsurgency measures to contain the rising Baloch nationalism. It has led to the creation of militant jihadi outfits backed by the state now involved in secretive operations along with the FC and the army in Balochistan. Nifaz-e-Amn-e-Balochistan, Sipah-e-Shuhda-e-Balochistan, and Balochistan Musallah Difaei Tanzeem are a few examples of the ISI-founded groups targeting the Baloch resistance in addition to the ISIS chapter in Balochistan who call themselves the Lashkar-e-Khorasan.  These organizations operate openly at the behest of the Pakistani army and intelligence agencies and have openly claimed killing of Baloch activists. They publicly circulate their literature, do wall chalking, and terrorize local residents.  They have issued religious fatwas (decrees) against Baloch secular organizations, Zikis, and writers, intellectuals, target-killed educationists, forcefully shut down girl’s schools, and attacked women with acid on their faces. They are also responsible for carrying out genocide of Shia Hazaras and Baloch Zikri Community in Balochistan. Baloch freedom fighters have always countered such forces. However, ISIS presence in the region can change the scene forever in favor of Islamist terrorists if international community does not help Baloch organizations to resist their notorious agendas.

Pakistan demands self-determination for Kashmir but has occupied Balochistan: Hyrbiar Marri - Viewpointonline

Pakistan demands self-determination for Kashmir but has occupied Balochistan: Hyrbiar Marri - Viewpointonline | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
‘As you know there are many in Balochistan. They believe that Balochistan’s occupation is being maintained through the barrel of gun; hence, Balochistan liberation will also flow through the barrel of gun,’ says Hyrbiar Marri. Son of the late Khair Bux Marri, Hyrbiar is a known spokesperson for Baluchistan national struggle. Read on:

Basically what in your view is Balochistan’s problem?

In 1947 when Balochistan got independence and it stayed independent for nine months, Pakistan’s founding father, Muhammad Ali Jinnah wanted our Khan to accede to Pakistan. The Khan sought the advice of the Baloch parliament. The House of Lords as well as the House of Commons advised the Khan against accession to Pakistan. The parliament believed that being an independent country, with a distinct culture and language, Balochistan should not accede to Pakistan merely on religious grounds. On March 27, 1948 Pakistan invaded Balochistan whereupon the Khan was forced to sign the treaty of accession. The Baloch did not want it. Accession to Pakistan was secured under duress. The Baloch nation has refused to accept the forced accession. We believe we are an occupied land. We view Pakistan as an occupying force. We want the world to know that it was an illegal occupation of Baloch land. We want the international community to support us in the way it lent support to Kuwait against Iraqi occupation.

Geneva: A Conference with the title of "Balochistan: struggle for independence"

"Balochistan: struggle for independence" conference held in Geneva Switzerland. September 13, 2013 at 12:25am Geneva: A Conference with the title of "Balochistan: struggle for independence" was held in Geneva Switzerland on Thursday (Sep 12, 2013). Baloch Leader Nawabzada Mehran Marri organized a conference in Geneva to discuss the current situation of Balochistan. Human Rights activists from different groups and Baloch Leader Noor Deen Mengal and prominent journalist and human right activist Mr Tarek Fatah also attended and spoke to conference. The General Secretary of Baloch Republican Party Switzerland chapter, Mr. Azizullah Bugti addressed the conference. Following is his speech which he delivered at the meeting. Thank you Mr President. To giving me appotunity to speak Balochistan have been been suffering from fifth military aggression by Pakistani army since December 2005. Many prominent Baloch leaders including Nawab Akbar khan Bugti, Balach khan Marri, Ghulam mohammad Baloch, Sher Mohammad Baloch and Lala Muneer Baloch Have been brutally killed by Pakistani army. More than 80000 Bugti and Marri have been forced to leave their native towns and migrated to internal Balochistan, Sindh and even thousands of them went to neibouring country Afghanistan, due to ongoing military operation in their areas. Pakistan army did not limit its state terrorism against the people with in Kholu and Dera Bugti, while expended its military operations in the most Baloch populated area of Balochistan including Mashky, Awaran, khuzdar, Nushki, Turbat, Mastung, Ispilinji and adjoining areas. Pakistan army have been committing war crimes against humanity and continuing baloch massacre in Balochistan. Pakistan intensifies atrocities against the Baloch political leaders, workers and innocent civilans. On 21th of April 2013, the house Banuk Hooran Baloch the organizer of Baloch Republican Party women wing was attacked in Quetta by coward the personnel of Pakistan's intelligence agencies but luckily she and her family remained unhurt. The following month on 27th of may 2013, Pakistan army with the help of its death-sqauds surrounded the house of Shahi khan Bugti in RD 238 Pat feeder area of sui and started indiscriminating bombardment and firing on house, killing Shahi Bugti along with his two relatives namely Gondal Bugti and Piro Bugti, while injuring Abdul Rehman Bugti, Qalandar Bugti and a three years old boy Bagi Bugti. Similary on june 23, 2013 Panjabi army attacked on a funeral ceremony was taking place in Sunari Mat area of Sui, brutally killed Murad s/o Dhaloo Bugti, Haji Angli s/o kher Mohammad Bugti, Shehan s/o Dhaloo Bugti, Yousaf s/o Dhaloo Bugti, Burfi s/o Kher Mohammad Bugti and Taro s/o Jamalhan bugti by indiscriminating firing. It wroth mentioning that the victims were belongs to same family. In past few years Panjabi military, intelligence agency ISI and state sponsored death-squads have escalated their anit-Baloch policies, abducting Baloch youth, torture them to death and later their mutilated dead bodies are found on roadsides, isolated places in Balochistan and now even being thrown in Karachi Sindh. Most of the victims of state terrorism, extrajudicially killings are affiliated with pro-independence Baloch parties. 14August as Baloch Nation have been observing as a black day, at that day Pakistan military army and intelligence agencies surrounded the house of Baloch National Movement leader Imdad Bojair Baloch and attacked it with heavy weapons killing central secretary of BSO-Azad ,Raza Jhangir Baloch and Imdad Baloch leader of BNM. Human right violations in Balochistan on its peak and kiiling of Baloch youth, intellictuals, political leaders and jounalists are continuing with impunity by Pakistani security forces and notorious secret agency ISI. Moreover thousands of Baloch are kidnapped and bearing inhuman torture in torture cells of Pakistani military. Despite the several reports of well known NGO's, amensty international, human right watch and human right commission of Pakistan on human right abuses in Balochistan by Pakistan. Nevertheless the silence of united nation on human right violations in Balochistan by Panjabi army, raises questions on its structure of being voice for the suppressed Nations. Once again we urge upon united nation to send a fact finding mission into Balochistan and urge Pakistan to stop its human rights violation in Balochistan. We also appeal to the united nation to play its due role in safe recovery of more 14000 Baloch missing persons those have been abducted by Pakistani military and its secret agency ISI. Thank you Baloch Republican Party

IntelliBriefs: The new 'Baloch National Front' | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

The new 'Baloch National Front', which was formed a month ago, is an excellent job done by political Sarmachars (fighters) in Balochistan, and would; no doubt, attract the masses to the ideal of our intellectuals. Nawab Bugti had called upon Baloch leadership to form a single Baloch political party to oust the occupying forces from Baloch homeland. But it didn't materialize because of some political differences, which were already existed at the beginning of the full-fledged insurgency. These differences were the outcome of parliamentary politics of the past.

The world including China should respect the collective decision of Baloch nation: Hyrbyair Marri | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Baloch patriot leader Hyrbyair Marri said on Saturday that no one will be allowed to exploit Baloch coastal resources, the international community including China should respect the collective decision of Baloch nation. “The world should not make any agreement with Pakistan without the consent of Baloch nation,” Mr Marri added.

Expressing his concerns and disappointment over Pakistan’s handing over of Gwadar port to China, the Baloch leader said the entire world is witnessing that Baloch are sacrificing enormously in their struggle for their survival and Pakistan is committing atrocities to deny the Baloch their basic right to liberty because of which whole of Balochistan has become war effected area.

“Until and unless Balochistan’s conflicts is resolved and Pakistan ends the illegal occupation of Balochistan, nobody’s safety is guaranteed. The Baloch are the owner of everything in Balochistan but their own lives are not safe, then how can one guarantee the protection of foreigners and their investments? Pakistan in its efforts to counter the Baloch freedom movement can strike a deal with anyone for pennies and sell Balochistan’s national wealth,” Said Hyrbyair Marri.

The Baloch leader further clarified that, “We are neither against international investment nor do we oppose economic and diplomatic relations with the rest of the world. In fact in an independent Baloch state the international community will be invited and encouraged to invest, in accordance with modern market economy. Their investment will be protected in a similar fashion as Arab countries who established diplomatic and economic relation with the international community. Obviously mutual relations with international will be made with the consent and approval of Baloch nation. However, Independent Baloch state will not be bound to respect any agreement that China or any other country makes with Pakistan without Baloch consent.”...

Pakistan: the Resurgence of Baluch nationalism

Spencer Haskins's insight:

"Thirty years after a bloody conflict that official sources estimate caused more than five
thousand deaths among the rebels and almost three thousand among the Pakistan Army, Baluchistan
seems to be heading toward another armed insurrection. During the summer of 2004, there were
numerous attacks against the army and the paramilitary forces as well as repeated sabotage of oil
pipelines. Since the rape of a female doctor by a group of soldiers on January 2, 2005, in the hospital
in Sui, the principal gas-producing center in Baluchistan, assaults have multiplied, culminating in a
pitched battle between the Frontier Corps, a paramilitary unit, and the local Bugtis, one of the largest
Baluch tribes. According to the Pakistani daily, The Nation, approximately 1,568 “terrorist” attacks
occurred through April 3, 2005. These attacks have not been confined only to tribal areas but have
targeted Pakistani armed forces and Chinese nationals working on major regional projects all over the
province. .... "

Balochistan: A road map for peace & self-determination

Balochistan: A road map for peace & self-determination | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

....

“I speak as a friend of Balochistan who is very mindful that the future of Balochistan is a matter for the people and national democratic movement of Balochistan. It’s not up to me or any other outsider to make any such decisions. I offer advice, experience and knowledge but the future of Balochistan must be decided by the Baloch people.

“What I’m doing is offering a few ideas for consideration. These ideas are not mine alone. They are the result of discussions I had with a group of Baloch national activists in Geneva in 2010, when we went there to lobby at the United Nations.

“This is our draft road map for peace and self-determination:

“First, there should be a ceasefire and the cessation of military operations by all sides; with Pakistan agreeing to withdraw troops and paramilitaries to barracks, halt the construction of new military outposts and permit independent monitoring and supervision by UN observers and peacekeepers.

“Second, all political prisoners should be released and the fate of all disappeared persons accounted for.

“Third, there should be unfettered access to Balochistan by news media, aid agencies and human rights organisations.

“Fourth, displaced refugees should be allowed to return, have their properties restored and receive compensation for losses caused by the conflict.

“Fifth, the population transfer of non-Baloch settlers into Balochistan should end.

“Sixth, there should be a UN supervised referendum on self-determination, offering the people of Balochistan the options to remain part of Pakistan, greater regional autonomy and full independence.

“These six ideas are only tentative, draft proposals. They are open for further discussion, refinement and amendment. But they are a starting point for a united front for Baloch emancipation. Surely all Baloch nationalists, whatever their other differences, can agree with them?

“My advice is: concentrate on the issues around which you can unite and then the Baloch movement will be stronger, more effective, and you’ll be taking the first step on the road to a long-delayed, much-deserved freedom,” said Mr Tatchell....

India should politically, morally and diplomatically support Baloch struggle for freedom: Hyrbyair Marri | Balochwarna News | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
“India is a democratic country” he said. Mr Marri stated that since Pakistan openly supports Kashmir on political, diplomatic and moral basis then India should also should not hesitate to support Baloch democratic struggle for independence.  Whereas it had long historical borders with Balochistan.

If India, United States and other democratic states want peace in the region and wish to limit Pakistan’s religious terrorism, then it should support the Baloch as India helped Bengalis during their liberation war in 1970s.

Hyrbyair Marri added, “Baloch are a natural ally of all those who believe in democracy, human rights and rule of law. A secular and independent Balochistan can only guarantee peace in the region. The democratic states must learn from the experience of Kurdistan. Baloch do not want to live in the state of perpetual war, poverty and subjugation. They want peace, stability, prosperity, freedom and dignity.”

A declaration for Independence of Balochistan

Quetta/ Geneva, Sep 08: The largest and resource-rich province of Pakistan, Balochistan, celebrate August 11 as its `Independence Day’ and blames Pakistan for its illegal occupation since 1948. Facing poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and inequity, the people in Balochistan feel a deep sense of insecurity and disgruntlement against the Pakistan regime. Human rights violations have reached `epidemic proportions’ in the region. On August 11, 2014, Baloch nationalist leaders issued a written declaration demanding Balochistan’s independence. The declaration forwarded to the concerned authorities says that Pakistani armed forces have launched a campaign of ethnic cleansing and genocide in Balochistan, and are systematically kidnapping, imprisoning and murdering Baloch political activists, students, lawyers, intellectuals and nationalist leaders.

Impartial nations and Human Rights Organisations should help Baloch and Kurds to get UN representation: Hyrbyair Marri

...Baloch pro-freedom leader Hyrbyair Marri said that Pakistan has started indefinite barbarism in New Kahan Quetta Balochistan and Pakistani security forces are continuously terrorising innocent Baloch in their efforts to suppress Baloch voice for freedom. He said on going raids in New Kahan Quetta, abduction of hundreds of people and loot and plunder of houses are continuation of state’s conspiracy.

He said there are different measurements for human rights and humanity in the world. “The entire Arab world is crying for Palestine because the Palestinians speak the same language as them. On the other hand the Arab World is not only silent over Pakistan’s barbarism against Balochistan but they are helping Pakistan in its human rights violations against Baloch people,” he said.

He said similarly the whole world raises their voice about atrocities against Yazidi community in Iraq because they are scared of religious extremists of ISIS but when Pakistan indiscriminately attacks and bombs Balochistan the entire civilised world ignores it.

Hyrbyair Marri said: “Pakistani army is blatantly violating human rights in Balochistan and the only difference between them [army] and ISIS is that army commits crimes in uniform and the world supports them, but the Pakistani military’s ideology is same as that of Taliban and ISIS. The ISIS is massacring Yazidi and other communities in Iraq and in similar fashion Pakistani forces are involved in extra-judicial abductions, killings and military operations in Balochistan with complete state immunity.

Mr Marri said that the international community takes notice of human rights violations in Palestine, Ukraine, and against Yazidi Community in Iraq but they turn a blind eye to Pakistani state barbarism against Baloch people and the their bloodshed in Balochistan.

He said that some UN member states are using their status to only protect their own individual interests and helping others on linguistic basis. Such states, he said, are occasional humanitarian – they only remember human rights if their own interests are at stake or if their linguistic partners are in trouble.

Shock as US, UK support separatist Baloch leader at the UN | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

LONDON: Britain and America shocked Pakistan and its allies at the 23rd regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s general debate in Geneva on 7 June when the two countries clearly supported nationalist leader Mehran Marri, Balochistan’s representative to the UN, who spoke against the recent elections and alleged that Pakistan was committing rights abuses in Balochistan.

Pakistan is likely to lodge protest with both the countries for taking a hostile position towards Pakistan by intervening on behalf of Mehran Marri who alleged that the recent elections exposed the “farce that the Pakistani establishment wanted to present as democracy”. The support by the two powerful countries to a Baloch separatist leader will give strength to the view of those who have suspected that elements within the US and the UK Baloch nationalist factions for their own regional and strategic objectives.

Marri, the youngest son of Karachi-based veteran leader Nawab Khair Baksh Marri, said that the Baloch didn’t take part in the election “charade” as participating the elections would have legitimised the “injustices against the Baloch people since 7th March 1948 when Pakistan forcibly annexed Balochistan”.....

#Balochistan | A Nation stolen by #Pakistan !

The Balochistan once was a free and sovereign country, on August 11,1947, the British acceded control of Balochistan to the ruler of Balochistan, Mir Ahmad Yar Khan - the Khan of Kalat. The Khan immediately declared the independence of Balochistan, and Mohammad Ali Jinnah signed the proclamation of Balochistan’s sovereignty under the Khan.

The New York Times reported on August 12, 1947: “Under the agreement, Pakistan recognizes Kalat as an independent sovereign state with a status different from that of the Indian States. An announcement from New Delhi said that Kalat, Moslem State in Baluchistan, has reached an agreement with Pakistan for free flow of communications and commerce, and would negotiate for decisions on defense, external affairs and communications. ” The next day, the NY Times even printed a map of the world showing Balochistan as a fully independent country.
On August 15, 1947 the Khan of Kalat addressed a large gathering in Kalat and formally declared the full independence of Balochistan, and proclaimed the 15th day of August a day of celebration. The Khan formed the lower and upper house of Kalat Assembly, and during the first meeting of the Lower House in early September 1947, the Assembly confirmed the independence of Balochistan. Jinnah tried to persuade the Khan to join Pakistan, but the Khan and both Houses of the Kalat Assembly refused. The Pakistani army then invaded Balochistan on March 27th, 1948, and imprisoned all members of the Kalat Assembly. India stood by silently. Lord Mountbatten, Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru or Maulana Azad, then the president of India’s Congress Party said nothing about the illegal occupation of Balochistan.

Since the illegal occupation of Baloch land,Pakistan’s military is continuously trying to silent the voices of Balochistan’s freedom by the force of guns, tanks, figh ter jets in all the other possible brutal ways.Nawab Babu Nauroz Khan waged an arm struggle along with thousands of Baloch tribesman for the liberation of Balochistan. But on May 15,1959 the Pakistani wicked rulers betrayed the Babu Nauroz through an oath on the holy Quran that Pakistan will settle all the Baloch grievances.Howe ver, when Nawab Nowroz Khan came down from the hills, he and about 150 of his followers, including his sons and nephews, were arrested for armed rebellion against the state. On July 15, 1960 five of the leaders were executed by hanging in Hyderabad Jail.Nawab Nauroz Khan was spared execution on account of his age, but died in Jail in 1964.
The co-operation of Shah-e-Iran Raza Shah Pahlavi with Z.A Bhutto to crush the Baloch Uprising in 1973-77, when the Shah of Iran provided Pakistan with cobra helicopters, Iranian pilots and $700 million dollar in cash.In this deadly operation an estimately 15,000-25,000 Baloch tribesmen were killed, livestoc ks,fields, house s were destroyed by the joint aggression of Pakistan and Iran, and thousands took refuge to Afghanistan.

The Pakistani state has been using regular troops and paramilitary forces against Baloch civilians. The region has been highly militarized, as Pakistani occupiers established one paramilitary post for every 500 people. There are four mega military cantonments, 52 paramilitary cantonments, five naval bases including Jinnah naval base in Ormara district Gwadar and six missile-testing ranges in Balochistan.Ope n in new window
On 17th March 2005, Pakistan's Paramilitary Forces,Started Shelling the town of Dera Bugti, more than 60 Civilians were killed in this indiscriminate Bombardment, among them 33 Hindus killed and 19 were children.
On 17 December 2005, paramilitary forces began aerial bombardment at Kohlu.By mid-June 2006, about 400 to 500 innocent Baloch people were killed in the army operations including in air raids in Balochistan, especially in Marri and Bugti areas.About 80 to 85% of those either killed or injured were women and children. The fighting caused widespread damage to buildings, and 85 percent people of Dera Bugti were forced to flee the town. The Pakistani Air Force chief Tanwir Mahmood Ahmed stated that the air force would continue to be used whenever and wherever the government desired.

According to the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) that Pakistani soldiers arrested four people on April 5 2008, in the Dera Bugti district of Balochistan, and subjected them to torture. They were asked to identify local supporters of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). After failing to get any names from them, the victims were immersed in scolding hot coal tar. Three of the men were literally boiled and burned to death. A fourth died later from his injuries.Villag ers in the area also claim the Pakistan army used a form of chemical gas against them and that some of the gassed survivors were later shot.

So far, according to one estimate about 8000 people, including men, women and children, have been abducted by Pakistani security forces from various parts of Balochistan.Pak istan has used all brutal ways to stop the Baloch freedom movement but Baloch nation is courageously facing all the brutalities of occupying state but not withdrawing from the national cause of independence.Pa kistan now using her last method to suppress the struggle like did in Bangladesh by the ‘’Al-Shams’’ &’’Al-Badar’’ now these death squads are re-introduced in Balochistan by new names in order to hide her crimes.Pakistan i military intelligence agencies ISI,MI,IB and Frontier Core are abducting the Baloch students, politi cal workers, human right activists, journ alists from every corner of Balochistan, lik e from colleges, houses ,hospitals, high ways.Pakistan military has kept all abducted persons in secret torture cells, and every week killing 8-10 of the Baloch youths and throwing their brutally tortured bullet riddled bodies in deserts and mountains, most of the deadbodies are not recogniseable as flesh been eaten by wild animals. The “custodial killings toll” has crossed the figure of “130” in a time span of only 10 months and exactly same numbers of Baloch youths has been abducted again.

Pakistan military fighter jets and gunship helicopters still bombing, shellin g the Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Mashkay, Mand town of Balochistan but unfortunately still a ‘’flyzone’’ for Pakistan Airforce, as lives of Baloch are not worthful like the Libyans. It’s the morale duty of all those champions of human rights who are crying for the human lives in Somalia,Egypt,L ibya must play their role to save Baloch nation from the Pakistan military butchers.Infact Pakistan is an ally of US in ‘’War Against Terrorism’’ but we Baloch need world support in ‘’War Against Pakistani State Terrorism in Balochistan’’.

As an occupied & opressed Nation, we have every right to be free, independent & soverign, freedom is our basic right as nation according to international law of UNO.

It is high time for the UN now to recognize Balochistan as an occupied country and Baloch Nation as an occupied Nation. UN should pass resolutions against Pakistan & Iran if she doesn't stop the massacre of Baloch Nation. Balochistan issue must be resolved according UN charter of Rights. Baloch need their sovereign country back and International Community must come to the aid of Baloch Nation to help Baloch achieve their goal (Independent Balochistan). We also appeal to Human rights organizations and international communities to pressure UN against the human rights violation in Occupied Balochistan by Pakistani and Iran, UN must act high time now against pakistan's crimes against humanity in occupied Balochistan and should support the Independence of Balochistan.

The Struggle for Independence and the Shortcomings of the Baloch Leadership - Crisis Balochistan

The Struggle for Independence and the Shortcomings of the Baloch Leadership - Crisis Balochistan | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

...In August 26, 2006, when Nawab Akbar Bugti, then in his 80s, was killed in the mountains of Balochistan by the Pakistani army, Baloch elites from all corners of Balochistan emphasised unity and advocated seeking justice from within this unity. To achieve their goals, on September 21, 2006, they held a grand assembly, in which eighty five tribal chiefs participated and after which Baloch MPs and Senators resigned jointly from parliament, a gesture which reflected, ordinary Baloch thought, their ideological sincerity and commitment. Such a unique action by Baloch leaders inspired the Baloch people, namely the educated ones, who believed that the determination of their elites and elders would gradually break the chains of slavery, which in turn would lead them to achieve the overall goal: liberty and self-determination for Balochistan.....

Balochistan: The State Versus the Nation

Balochistan: The State Versus the Nation | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Balochistan, the largest but least populous province of Pakistan, is slowly descending into anarchy. Since 2005, Pakistani security forces have brutally repressed the Baloch nationalist movement, fueling ethnic and sectarian violence in the province. But the Pakistani armed forces have failed to eliminate the insurgency—and the bloodshed continues. Any social structures in Balochistan capable of containing the rise of radicalism have been weakened by repressive tactics. A power vacuum is emerging, creating a potentially explosive situation that abuts the most vulnerable provinces of Afghanistan. Only a political solution is likely to end the current chaos....

Is Pakistan heading for disaster in Balochistan?

Is Pakistan heading for disaster in Balochistan? | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Washington, DC - The behaviour of the powerful elite of Islamabad reminds me of the captain and crew of the RMS Titanic sailing into the night, heading straight towards an iceberg. The civilian, military and judicial authorities are locked up in a tussle coloured by political positions and personal egos. And there is a dangerous disconnect between Islamabad and the enormous problems that loom on the Pakistani horizon.

Law and order appears to have collapsed in many parts of the country. In the north-east, the former Frontier Province, there are daily killings as suicide bombers and the army continuously fight each other. Unemployment is widespread and inflation is sky-high. And there is still a desperate shortage of electricity and gas in much of the country.

But perhaps none of these problems is more pressing than the situation in Balochistan. If the simmering, but widespread movement for independence spins out of control, Pakistan will find it almost impossible to maintain nationhood.

I was reminded of Balochistan by the recent visit of Malik Siraj Akbar to my office. It made me happy to think back to my associations with its people and places, but I also became distressed as I thought of the current situation: a climate of killings and so-called "disappearances". ...
