ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, stated no institution was performing its duties in Balochistan and FC, police, spy agencies and provincial government have failed in order to restore law and order in the province.
A 3-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, heard the proceedings of the case of law and order situation and human rights violations in Balochistan.
The chief justice directed the counsel of the federal government that after the failure of provincial government, it was constitutional duty of the federal government to control the situation.
Justice Jawad S Khawaja stated, “If local government elections were conducted in Balochistan, perhaps the situation could be better, not a single target killer has been arrested, the abduction for ransom, target killings and smuggling are being done openly”. ...

The judiciary needs to investigate the killing of Akbar Bugti and if necessary charge Musharraf, reopen the case on disappearances and threaten contempt charges against the agencies for ignoring their orders. The Supreme Court cannot sit idle and ignore these issues by risking greater foreign interference in the matter. It needs to demonstrate to the Baloch people and the world that they are, in fact, citizens of Pakistan and their rights are protected.
