Bahrain: Al Wefaq Writes to HCHR, Concern over Condition of Prisoners

Bahrain: Al Wefaq Writes to HCHR, Concern over Condition of Prisoners | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Al Wefaq National Islamic Society said no information has been released in the past 5 days on the conditions of a number of prisoners in Juw prison, including Sheikh Mohammed Ali Al Mahfoodh, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Action Society.

This is despite news that has been circulating on the mistreatment of the prisoners in the prison and that two of the prisoners are wounded. However, the families of the prisoners have not received any phone calls from the prison.

Al Wefaq has sent an urgent appeal to the Special Procedures Division in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights concerning the situation of the prisoners in Juw prison.

The Authority in Bahrain is fully responsible for the safety of the prisoners who are facing vengeful measures by denying them their fundamental human rights, Al Wefaq stated. Shockingly, state institutions and foundations concerned for human rights such as the Ombudsman Office, the National Institution for Human Rights, the General Inspector, Public Prosecution Office and Ministry of Human Rights all remain silent towards this situation.

Al Wefaq also notes the Interior Ministry’s silence, even though it is the body responsible for the administration of prisons, stressing that such practices are illegal and considered a serious violation of the rights of the prisoners.

Bahrain: Prison escape from Dry Dock and the criminal response of the Al-Khalifa regime... | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

A few days ago one of the prisoners  escaped from the prison.  As usual,  the government used this  to punish the other prisoners that  have no link or relation to the escape . The prison management sent in a special police squad to search inside prison number 9 at the Dry Dock prison.  They punished all the prisoners there,  some of them were handcufed  and beaten  severely.   A 15 year old boy, also a political prisoner,   was sexually harassed by the police.   The Holy Quran was  shredded , the Turba, which it is a peace of clay the Shia Muslim use it in pray, had been thrown  in the toilet.  The security on  prisoner visitation was  tightened.  Now the prisoners in prison number 9 are in open hunger strike due to this bad treatment and due to the above violations I have mentioned.  They are also demanding to see the general inspector of the prisons.

Horrifying sexual torture in Bahrain jails: Prisoners’ families reveal - Intifada Palestine

Horrifying sexual torture in Bahrain jails: Prisoners’ families reveal - Intifada Palestine | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Families of Bahraini political prisoners say their children and relatives are suffering from horrible torture and sexual abuse in Al Khalifa regime jails.

A Sunday report by the Bahraini al-Wasat newspaper expressed concern about health condition of several prisoners who have been gravely tortured in jails while they are denied access to any kind of treatment.

Some families said tortures and abuses occurred even at the interrogations in al-Howdh al-Jaf prison.

They said regime forces blindfolded the prisoners there and used electric shocks at their genitals; “They let go of them when they confess to prepared confessions against themselves,” the report quoted a relative of a prisoner.

The paper also quoted several people who spent some time in regime jails as saying that they were forced to stand fully naked for hours of interrogation which in some cases lasted for days.....
