Why isn't #Bahrain free? | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
Spencer Haskins's insight:

When leadership acts and a sheepish populace accepts the shackles and manacles of servitude, then the leadership is punished in vain.

When Zainab tears up a picture of  Hammy, the big loser, AlKhakifa....the entire Shiite populace of Bahrain, enter the streets in mass protests of shredding pictures of Hammy publicly, then the regime cannot silence the dissent.  It must capriciously attack only one person for the acts of over  one million, or it must not act at all.  The failed regime cannot imprison over a million Shiites!  Either way, the regime loses and the opposition wins!

Two things to remember:  1. Do you want your children to live in bondage, or to know freedom?
2. Everyday is Karbala, will you stand up with your leadership, or will you hide and accept bondage?

No one likes Hammy, the idiot, AlKhalifa.......The World shreds this infant's picture because he is an arrogant fool.....Zainab is  a proud soul who only wants what is best for the Bahraini people......clearly the removal of a myopic, deranged simpleton 'king' is what is best.....

Update: Bahrain: Zainab Al-Khawaja arrested

Update: Bahrain: Zainab Al-Khawaja arrested | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
Zainab Al-Khawaja was arrested today, 14 October 2014, during a court hearing where she was scheduled to face charges related to tearing a photograph of the King.

According to witnesses present at the trial, Zainab asked to speak, and stated to the court that "I am the daughter of a proud and free man. My mother brought me into this world free, and I will give birth to a free baby boy even if it is inside our prisons. It is my right, and my
responsibility as a free person, to protest against oppression and oppressors." Zainab Al-Khawaja then tore a photograph of the King of Bahrain in the court, and placed it in front of the judge. The court was immediately dismissed, and everyone was made to leave the court room while Zainab Al-Khawaja was placed under arrest.

Zainab Al-Khawaja was taken to Alhoora police station, and was allowed to telephone her family. She is currently almost nine months pregnant, and could give birth at any time.

The charges against Zainab Al-Khawaja are entirely related to freedom of expression, and the Bahrain Center for Human Rights and Gulf Center for Human Rights reiterate their calls for the immediate dismissal of these cases and all other politically motivated charges against her.
Spencer Haskins's insight:

You have to love Zainab!  What a great spirit!  I think mass destructions of Hammy AlKhalifa's image should be made the rule!  What if Bahrainis in the hundreds of thousands all destroyed poor little Hammy's pictures?!      Poor little Hammy, so vain, and  so impotent....

A Bahrain regime court ruled Saturday that prominent rights activist Maryam al-Khawaja be kept behind bars for an extra 10 days despite a UN call for her release, her lawyer said.

The Bahraini co-director of the Gulf Centre for Human Rights, who also has Danish nationality, was arrested on August 30 on arrival in Manama in connection with an alleged assault on a police officer at the airport.
Her lawyer Mohammed al-Jishi told AFP that the judge ordered that Khawaja be kept in custody on the same “charge”.

Maryam al-Khawaja, who campaigns against abuse in Gulf state, charged with insulting king and assault on arrival.

The prominent Bahrain human rights activist and critic of the ruling family, Maryam al-Khawaja, has been arrested by authorities on her arrival at the Gulf state's airport.

Posts on the Twitter account of Khawaja said she had been charged with insulting the king, assaulting police officers, and faced charges for her involvement with the rights campaign, Wanted For Justice.

Khawaja, the co-director of the Gulf Centre for Human Rights, is the daughter of Shia Muslim activist Abdulhadi Abdulla Hubail al-Khawaja, who has been in custody in Bahrain since 2011 and is on hunger strike.

The Reuters news agency reported her mother Khadija al-Musawi as saying her daughter would be transferred to the public prosecution court on Sunday.

A later post on her Twitter account stated that she would be held for seven days and was not allowed to see a lawyer before her interrogation.

Khawaja, who has lived abroad for several years, had returned to Bahrain to see her father, who recently decided to go on a new hunger strike. Her sister, Zainab, had been released from custody on Friday pending further investigation.

Bahraini activist Zainab al-Khawaja was released from prison on Sunday after nearly a year behind bars for multiple convictions including participation in an illegal gathering.

Friends and supporters greeted her in a coffee shop in a main mall hours after her release. The cafe has served as a gathering point for activists since the small island-nation's Arab Spring-inspired uprising.

"One year of prison is nothing," she told journalists defiantly after her release. "We have a cause... This will not stop us."

Bahrain: Maryam Al-Khawaja urges UK to speak out on human rights violations - Index on Censorship | Index on Censorship | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

You can imprison a human rights defender, but you can’t stop the human rights cause, Maryam Al-Khawaja told a packed press conference in London on Wednesday, organised by Index on Censorship and the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD).

The prominent Bahraini activist and co-director of the Gulf Centre for Human Rights urged UK authorities to speak out about rights abuses in her country, which she said is being run like a business by the ruling Al-Khalifa family. This comes after the arrest of her colleague, Bahrain Centre for Human Rights (BCHR) president Nabeel Rajab. He is facing charges of insulting government institutions on Twitter.

Also on Wednesday, her sister Zainab Al-Khawaja was sentenced to seven days’ detention for publicly insulting King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa by ripping up a picture of him in court. She was in court over charges connected to her previous human rights campaigning....
