Badges How to: Using Your Classroom Rubrics to Design a Badge System

Badges How to: Using Your Classroom Rubrics to Design a Badge System | Badges for Lifelong Learning | Scoop.it
Recently teachers and administrators have been asking us for ideas on how to go about implementing badges in their own schools.  In this post, I’m going to describe two approaches for how to ...

We have a test badge up!

I created a blog and did my best to make it un-blog like, and more like a website. You can view the blog here. I created a page (rather than a blog post) and put up some instructions for completing the badge, including a video and discussion questions which participants should respond to in the form of a comment.

Then I created a google form and I link directly to the form from that original page. The form has a place for participants to enter their name and email. The email is important, because I need this in order to issue the badge. I put a couple of other questions on the form (although I'm not attached to the overall content of the badge at this point--I'm just playing with format), and then a note at the bottom of the form tells the viewer how they will be able to claim their badge.

Incorporating Open Badges into a Hybrid Course Context | Dan Hickey

Incorporating Open Badges into a Hybrid Course Context | Dan Hickey | Badges for Lifelong Learning | Scoop.it

In this post I want to describe how I used ForAllBadges (from ForAllSystems, a small Chicago firm) to issue digital badges within a typical online course management system (CMS).  Anyone who wants to issue badges that comply with Mozilla’s Open Badge Infrastructure (OBI) can easily sign up for a free account athttp://www.forallbadges.com/. ; The account can be used as a stand-alone site, or it can be accessed from within any CMS that lets you access outside websites.  I am using OnCourse, the Sakai-based open-source CMS that Indiana University helped develop.

A blunder through OpenBadges

A blunder through OpenBadges | Badges for Lifelong Learning | Scoop.it

I had been thinking that a WordPress blog might be a good way to display badges. Whilst I have not yet got the WordPress Badge Display plug-in working, Dave Lester who created it has assured me he will give me all the assistance I need to get it up and running properly. In the meantime, I had found a site called BadgeWidgetHack which creates some HTML allowing you to display badges. I cut and pasted this into a text editor in my sidebar, and it worked. Or at least I thought it worked! The esteemedJohn Johnston, far wiser about such things than I am, quickly spotted that the BadgeWidgetHack code was limited to the most recent 3 badges you had earned. Quicker than I could say “Whit?”, John had the code hacked and a new improved version displaying more (all?) of my badges available.

Pushing Badges from ForAllBadges to a Backpack and Beyond | Dan Hickey and Andi Rehak

Pushing Badges from ForAllBadges to a Backpack and Beyond | Dan Hickey and Andi Rehak | Badges for Lifelong Learning | Scoop.it

In a separate post, Dan explained he used ForAllBadges to issue OBI-complaint badges within the Oncourse course management system.  This post explains how these badges earners can "push" their badges out of the class and into their open badges backpack and beyond to Facebook, Google+ and Twitter.

This post is intended to be a very concise explanation for using backpacks when using the ForAllBadges platform.  In particular it highlights the fact that badge earners must have an open badges backpack before they can push their badges to it.
