Some Thoughts about the iPhone 5S Camera Improvements

Some Thoughts about the iPhone 5S Camera Improvements | Backpack Filmmaker | Scoop.it
One of the big improvements that comes with the iPhone 5S is a new camera system, with a faster aperture for more light throughput, bigger 8 MP sensor with correspondingly bigger pixels, dual LED color temperature matching flash, and improved ISP. I thought it worth going over some of the changes before we look at it in the review since there’s already honestly quite a lot that I’ve gathered about the 5S system just from examining EXIF on the images from Apple’s uploaded sample images gallery, what I saw in the demo room on a 5S, and what has been said publicly.

Hollywood studios 2013 performance review

"As 2013 comes to an end, Hollywood studios are reviewing their last year's performance in theatrical. For the first time ever, Warner Brothers surpassed $3bn for international box office, according to data from Variety and Screen Daily. With total revenues at $5.04bn, of which $3.14bn from international sales and $1.90bn from domestic, Warner topped the list among other Hollywood studios.  Warner had a total of 19 new releases in 2013, and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug was the biggest hit with $653m box office. Other top performers include Gravity ($398.7m, and still on release), Man of Steel ($371.8m) and Pacific Rim ($305.8m).

Disney ranked second with a total box office of $4.73bn worldwide, and also crossed the $3bn for the first time in international revenue ($3.01bn from overseas and $1.72bn from domestic). Disney actually had a very impressive year, given the fact that it only had 10 releases in 2013, significantly fewer than Warner. Disney's highest grossing film was Iron Man 3, which generated $1.21bn globally and was also the number one film in the whole industry in 2013...."

Free Super-Easy To Use Audio / Video Transcription Tool: oTranscribe

Free Super-Easy To Use Audio / Video Transcription Tool: oTranscribe | Backpack Filmmaker | Scoop.it

"A free HTML5 app to take the pain out of transcribing interviews. Useful for journalists, academics and anyone else transcribing audio."

Via Robin Good

Robin Good's curator insight, January 9, 3:24 PM

oTranscribe is a free, open-source web app which allows you to easily transcribe your video by using a very simple interface.

You first upload your audio file and on the same web page you can start typing your transcription, while being able to easily start / stop the audio and to rewind or forward to any point you need to without ever needing to leave the keyboard.

The start / stop acts in a smart way, and everytime you restart the audio track after having paused it, the playback automatically starts from a second earlier from where you left. Lovely.

Playback speed control is available both through a slider and via keyboard shortcuts. You can also easily insert time stamps within the transcription by simply pressing Ctrl/Cmd+J, and then when you click one the audio jumps immediately to that specific point.

A set of useful shortcuts completes the toolkit:

Esc: Play/pause

F1: Rewind
F2: Fast-forward
F3: Slow down
F4: Speed up

Content is auto-saved automatically to your local browser.

Supported audio file formats: mp3, ogg, webm, wav

Excellent tool for anyone needing to easily transcribe any audio file.

Free to use. Open-source.

Try it out now: http://otranscribe.com/

Robin Good's insight:

Adobe has opened up an online academy for learning most anything from building mobile apps, to Photoshop, design, PowerPoint presentations and more.

There are already over 75 different courses available, and besides a few free Adobe introductory ones (Photoshop for beginners), all other courses are have a price tag ranging from $19 to $99 per course. You can pick and select courses you would like to take and save them in a wish list.

Each course provides a sneak preview, and includes multiple video modules on the selected topic.

Creativeblog reports: "With Adobe KnowHow you can also markup or add notes on the video as you're watching; making it even easier to master that new skill. You can also jump to cue points created by your annotations to review both your notes and the associated video content, so you'll be up to date all of the time."
