If A and B are both cited by many other items, they have a stronger relationship. The more items they are cited by, the stronger their relationship is

many SEO’s know that a link from a social media site holds substantial value insofar as the ranking score is concerned.
A guest commented that this statement was not necessarily true. I am not sure if he or she meant that it was not true that SEOs actually know that, or that it was not true that links from social media sites hold any Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) value.
Either way, this comment led me to write this article where I will delve deeper into the details surrounding the perceived value of social media in SEO".

Several years back in the SEO community, SEOs for the most part, stood together. We had each others backs. When one SEO took a fall, we did what we could to help out. There are exceptions to that but that was the general feeling. We had a community and we protected each other. I feel that is not longer the case and hasn't been for some time.

Excerpted from article intro: "Broken link building may perhaps be the most effective, white-hat link building strategy in years. In particular, broken link building is appealing because the success of the campaign is directly proportional to how much good you do for the web. You profit only if you create good content to replace lost or abandoned content that webmasters still want to link to. This is the type of strategy that marries so many of the competing interests our industry: content vs. links, link earning vs link building, inbound vs. outbound, etc.
Below, I attempt to organize as much as I know about broken link building tactics. Throughout the piece I mention tools that will help you make the broken link building process scalable and less monotonous.
"How does social media activity impact SEO? That's a common question these days as publishers try to make the most of search and social for audience development.
While the role of social media signals in Google and Bing’s ranking algorithms is still evolving there are already a number of ways that social media is having a clear influence.
Here are five ways that social media impacts SEO, or more specifically search engine visibility, rankings and traffic:
1. Annotations in the Search Results
Both Google and Bing use social data to annotate select listings on their search engine results pages.
2. Personalized Rankings
In addition to annotations the engines also personalize the order of their search results based on a number of factors including social connections and activity.
3. Secondary Links
When it comes to ranking factors links are still much more important than social shares. A link from a quality, trusted site has considerably greater weight than a like, tweet or +1.
4. Highlighting Authors
In some instances Google is now highlighting author information in its search results.
Beyond author markup in the search results, both Google and Bing are beginning to utilize the concept of AuthorRank in which trusted, popular authors may be given a boost in search and social media visibility".
