The BACKBONE pedagogic corpus site offers free-of-charge access to small corpora of video-recorded spoken interviews of about 10 minutes with adult native speakers of various European languages: British and Irish varieties of English, French, German, Polish, Spanish, and Turkish, as well as European manifestations of 'English as a Lingua Franca'. The English corpus and the 'English as a Lingua Franca' corpus contain 50 interviews each; all the other language corpora contain 25 interviews each.
Principle target groups are teachers and learners in secondary, higher and vocational education. The pedagogical focus is on content and language integrated learning (CLIL) in an eLearning or blended learning environment.
The corpora are based on structured video interviews with pupils between 13 and 18 years of age. The interviews have been annotated and enriched for language learning purposes. Feel free to explore them on your own!
