HootSuite Pro users can share images to Twitter using Twitter's native pic.twitter capability, which results in full images being displayed in the Twitter timeline. Learn how this can increase your Twitter engagement.
Mike Allton's insight:

HootSuite Upgrades Image Sharing for Twitter

HootSuite Pro users got a nice surprise today. We're now able to share images to Twitter using Twitter's pic.twitter technology. That means that these shared images show up as full images within the Twitter stream, not just in the expanded tweet view.

How to Save Google Plus Posts for Later Reading

How to Save Google Plus Posts for Later Reading | The Content Marketing Hat | Scoop.it
There are actually several methods you can use to save Google+ posts for later reading. Which method you choose will mostly depend on your own personal preferences and requirements. We'll review them all here.
Mike Allton's insight:

How to Save Google+ Posts

Have you ever found a Google+ post from someone that you really wanted to save for later? Perhaps you got a notification, or maybe you just saw a post in your stream. What do you do?

There are some commonly used techniques that have surfaced, like saving posts to an empty circle, or creating your own Private Community. And those may work perfectly for you. There's another method though that I use that I think is even better.

My method saves posts outside of Google+ so they're accessible on multiple devices, regardless of whether or not you're logged in. The saves can be categorized, searched and sorted, and the system can be used to save posts, links or even comments and text snippets.

For the details on all of these options and more, read today's article: http://www.thesocialmediahat.com/article/how-save-google-plus-posts-later-reading

Have you used one of these methods, or do you have one of your own that you'd like to share?

Thanks!

Why Linkbait Is Not The Evil Viper You Think It Is (And How To Use It To Gain Traffic)

Why Linkbait Is Not The Evil Viper You Think It Is (And How To Use It To Gain Traffic) | The Content Marketing Hat | Scoop.it
Linkbait, while the name may sound bad or may even have some negative connotation in your mind, doesn't have to be negative at all. It can and should be a productive aspect of your Content Marketing strategy.
Mike Allton's insight:

Is Linkbait Evil?

It's unfortunate that the content marketing industry has coined the term "linkbait" because the word bait (and even links to an extent) have such bad connotation sometimes.

The fact is, linkbait, if done properly, can actually be a very good thing. Even Matt Cutts from Google agrees, and said that, "content can be both white-hat and yet still be wonderful "bait" for links."

So in today's article, I wanted to dive into what linkbait actually is, how we go about creating it and defining it, and even trying to determine just how much linkbait we need. I also include 7 examples of the kinds of content that typically make for great linkbait.

Learn more: http://owl.li/ulSA8

If you're writing and blogging for your business, this is a concept and technique that you must learn and adopt.

And if you've shied away from creating "linkbait" in the past, what was it that stopped you? Is there a myth we need to bust?

Thanks, and have a great weekend!

Make Your Blog A Winner By Cleaning Off The Kelp

Make Your Blog A Winner By Cleaning Off The Kelp | The Content Marketing Hat | Scoop.it
What's the point of sharing a blog post to a site that's only going to get me a couple of views, at best? Should we waste time sharing posts to third tier social networks and directories?
Mike Allton's insight:

Are you cleaning the kelp off your blog?

In one of my favorite episodes of The West Wing, political consultant Bruno Gianelli tells a story about cleaning kelp off a racing sailboat, and how important it is to use the right method because while the kelp might be causing some drag and resulting in a small amount of lost boat speed, fumbling around in the water trying to get the kelp off using the wrong method can be even worse!

It's a fun analogy (and another example of how storytelling can be used to educate and entertain, but more on that tomorrow night), and it's one that can be applied to many areas of business and blogging. In today's post, I use it to explain why I don't just focus on Google+ and Twitter. Those two platforms generate 95% of my referral traffic, so why should I waste time with StumbleUpon and Digg and others?

Dig into why here: http://owl.li/uca2x

To put it another way, I've talked before about how, after I publish a blog post, there are 25 things that I do to help promote that post. Some are more valuable than others, but all of them are working together to expand my reach and connect with more readers.

How about you? How many different tools and techniques and platforms are you using to promote your new content?

HootSuite Endures a Denial of Service Attack

HootSuite Endures a Denial of Service Attack | The Content Marketing Hat | Scoop.it
Starting early this morning, HootSuite users began noticing an inability to access their HootSuite dashboard. At 6:40am PST, HootSuite developers began working on the issue and started tracking and reporting on the issue online. While scheduled messages and RSS feeds were unaffected, it was clear that most users were unable to access the dashboard and therefore unable to send new status updates or monitor accounts.
Mike Allton's insight:

HootSuite began reporting early this morning of an issue users were reporting accessing the dashboard. Within a couple of hours, it was clear that HootSuite was under attack.

As of this writing, service and access has been restored and HootSuite has successfully mitigated the attack.

For more information and updates as they occur, read more below. If you have any questions at all, please let me know.

Are you able to access your HootSuite dashboard currently?

How to Link to a Google Plus Post

How to Link to a Google Plus Post | The Content Marketing Hat | Scoop.it
If you've ever wanted to share a Google+ Post with someone, to other social networks perhaps, or just wanted to bookmark it for later reading, here's how to link to a Google+ Post.
Mike Allton's insight:

How to Link to a Google+ Post

Did you know that every public Google+ post is essentially a webpage that can be linked to and shared? If you post something great or find something that someone else has posted, you can use the post link to share that post to other social networks.

You can also bookmark Google+ posts for later reading!

The trick is to use the timestamp on the post itself. You can click it to open any post in a new tab or window.

For more detailed instructions and screenshots, including a shortcut, read more: http://www.thesocialmediahat.com/article/how-link-google-plus-post

Personally, I don't often share Google+ posts to other networks, but I do find it really convenient either when I have a long list of resource links within a Google+ post, or for sharing specific Events like scheduled HOAs. How about you? Do you ever share Google+ posts to other social networks, or will you now that you know how?

Scoop.it Integrates Google Authorship and Google+ Page Support | The Content Marketing Hat | Scoop.it
Scoop.it is one of the tools that I highly recommend for content curation, and they've just released a couple of updates that are really exciting for businesses involving Google and Google+.
Mike Allton's insight:

One of the Best tools for Content Curation just got Better!

Earlier this week, +Scoop.it announced that users can now connect their Google+ account and be set up for Google Authorship, as well as share new scoops to their Google+ Page.

This is really cool news.

Longtime Scoop.it users are really excited, and for good reason. We've been using Scoop.it to find, curate and share some incredible articles and insights, and now that commentary and content can take advantage of greater visibility in Google Search results.

And being able to more easily share the content we find, and our thoughts about it, to our Google+ Business Pages creates a more seamless process of social media activity.

In other words, businesses can use Scoop.it to identify articles that their followers and potential clients would be interested in, save the articles and include some thoughts and perspective from the business, and share those ideas along with the article to all of their branded social profiles. And in so doing, create more opportunities for the business to come up in relevant search results.

Learn more about Scoop.it and these new features: http://owl.li/u6FF7

Have you tried Scoop.it before? If you're currently using it, please share a link to your Topic so we can check it out!
