Whoa, Dude, Social Media Gave Us Our Own Interactive Television!

Whoa, Dude, Social Media Gave Us Our Own Interactive Television! | The Content Marketing Hat | Scoop.it
TV apps may be the future of TV — here are some trends to watch for.
Mike Allton's insight:

Why do you still own a TV?

The question might seem odd to many of us. With cheaper and cheaper flat screens, the trend for a while was to put a TV in every room of the house, right?

Well, interestingly, thanks to the popularity of smartphones and tablets, and an increase in availability of apps that stream TV shows and movies, the number of homes with no TV is going up. More and more people are finding that they're OK with a smaller device and 100% streamed content.

Thanks to services like Netflix, many, like myself, are about to cut the cord and ditch expensive cable services. But stop using a TV? I'm not so sure about that. I'm far more likely to use my Apple TV or a new Chromecast device to stream that content to a big, HD TV.

What about you? Are you prepared to cut all your cords?

Facebook Adds Authorship. Bloggers Take Note!

Facebook Adds Authorship. Bloggers Take Note! | The Content Marketing Hat | Scoop.it
Facebook's latest feature is designed to give content consumers an easy way to follow and see more great content from the writers they like. This will be huge for bloggers!
Mike Allton's insight:

Facebook AUTHORSHIP

Yes, you read that right. While Google may have shuttered authorship, Facebook appears intent on reviving it. In their own special way.

Now, writers and purveyors of content can gain additional authorship information added to their shared content, which makes this particularly helpful and important to bloggers.

Today's article explains what Facebook Authorship is, how to set it up in a matter of minutes, and what it really means for bloggers and journalists.

And I'm curious what you think... will Facebook Authorship take off? Will it make you pay more attention to how wrote an article and perhaps follow them?

Thanks, and have a great weekend!

Don’t Send a Raven. Use Modern Methods For Communicating With Customers. - The SiteSell Blog

Instead of sending out coupons and hoping for the best, use the highly efficient marketing methods the Internet has to offer for your small business today.
Mike Allton's insight:

Shall I send a raven, my lord?

I've been a fan of Game of Thrones for nearly 20 years, and in that time, I've always marvelled at the role of the raven throughout the tapestry of the story.

Westeros has no Internet or modern communication methods, leaving castles and kingdoms to rely on the whim and fancy of birds to send and receive messages.

Yet, despite that fictional world, many businesses seem to be operating with the mindset that all they can do is send ravens to communicate with their customers.

Have you noticed that?

Is being acquired a bad thing? Of course not. It might even seem that acquisition should be a top goal. But that may not be the best idea.

Mike Allton's insight:

Motherhood: All Entrepreneurship Begins and Ends There

"A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts." ~ Washington Irving

Sharing some of my thoughts on motherhood and entrepreneurship in today's blog post.

Love you Mom!

5 Reasons Social Dashboards Are Great For Business

5 Reasons Social Dashboards Are Great For Business | The Content Marketing Hat | Scoop.it
There are a lot of different social listening dashboards that you can use to monitor activity of your followers and people interested in your brand. Here's why.
Mike Allton's insight:

How Do Businesses Keep Up With Social Media?

It's the underlying issue that plagues so many of the bloggers and business owners that I talk to. Not so much the changes, though those are overwhelming, as it is the sheer volume of activity and time required.

Posting status updates.
Responding to comments.
Monitoring key conversations.
Engaging.

That's what's overwhelming, particularly once you begin to have more than a couple social platforms involved.

And as +Wade Harman puts it, "once your business starts to grow and you start seeing more and more people gravitate toward your product, there is a chance that you could be left behind because of the simple fact that you just can’t keep up with everything."

That's where Social Dashboards come in. If you aren't yet using any kind of social media management tool, this guest post from Wade may be an eye-opener, and just the thing you needed to get moving in the right direction.

How to Create Your Own Ebook Using Google Slides

How to Create Your Own Ebook Using Google Slides | The Content Marketing Hat | Scoop.it
Email-gating an ebook generates your business valuable and qualified leads who are already segmented and inches away from a final paid conversion. This is where you start.
Mike Allton's insight:

How to use Google Slides to Create Awesome Ebooks

I have seen it stated several times in recent months that presentation programs are superior to word processing programs when it comes to creating eBooks. But I had my doubts. Shouldn't Word or Pages be best for creating books?

Once again, +James Scherer has set me straight.

In his latest guest post for +The Social Media Hat, James outlines exactly how he uses +Google Slides™ to create stunning ebooks. And includes step-by-step instructions and links to other resources.

If you have an ebook that needs sprucing up, or want to start using ebooks to generate leads for your business, this will help you tremendously.
