BREAKING: LinkedIn Opens Cover Photos For All

In a developing story, LinkedIn has relaxed the restriction on cover photos and they no longer seem limited to Premium Members. What was first reported to me by a reader, has now been confirmed on multiple free LinkedIn accounts.

If you have a basic LinkedIn account, you should now be able to log in, edit your profile, and upload a custom cover photo graphic (1400 x 425).

The story below provides additional detail, and will be updated if there's official word from LinkedIn or any other changes.

"The thirst you feel in your throat and lungs will be gone minutes after the race is over. The pain in your legs within days, but the glory of your finish will last forever." ~ Unknown

Content Marketing is a marathon. You start excited and energetic, writing away at lightning speed, dodging and weaving around slower, inferior competitors.

Then you hit mile 12.

And suddenly your legs feel like lead. Your thighs burn and your feet seem to be moving in wet sand.

You run out of ideas. You stare at an empty content calendar and scribble “infographic?” with no real optimism.

This insightful piece by +James Scherer will give you the five important steps you need to take to win the content marketing marathon.

And while I have never run a marathon, I have participated in grueling bike rides called centuries that are very similar. One in particular, the Tour Of the Scioto River Valley (TOSRV), begins in Columbus, OH on Saturday and follows a 105 mile course to Portsmouth on the banks of the Ohio River. On Sunday, you make your way back, achieving 210 miles bicycling in two days. Many fail to finish, or opt only to do one day.

But I didn't just decide to do TOSRV one day. I'd been riding consistently for months... years... and had specifically trained that year for this event by doing 100-mile rides on Sundays and 30-mile sprints on Wednesday evenings to build up strength and stamina. I had hit the Wall numerous times and learned how to push through it.

And that's exactly how it is with blogging.

When I first started blogging, I didn't begin by creating two blog posts a day. I was lucky to write one a month! But over time, I got better and better, and adopted many of the techniques and best practices that James outlines here.

So take a look at what it takes to win the Content Marketing Marathon and think about how you can adopt some of these ideas yourself. Which ones do you do already, and which ones do you think you can start working on now?
