Leveraging Big Data and Creative Content for Customer Engagement | Ayantek

Leveraging Big Data and Creative Content for Customer Engagement | Ayantek | Ayantek's User Experience Design Digest | Scoop.it

Why is content such a “buzz”?! In 2010 the curation of content became the mantra for all things digital. This trend is evident in the explosive growth of companies such as Hubspot and most recently Facebook’s acquisition of WhatsApp. Why is the WhatsApp acquisition considered relevant in the world of content creation? It is because of the user generated, real time aspects of thoughts, ideas, expressions, sound bites, pictures, and videos that are all being generated in a moment of thought and expressed or shared among the creator’s inner circle. What do marketers need to penetrate? They need the consumer’s state of conscious or that person’s world of influencers. Highly personalized, insightful, meaningful content is the gateway to engagement. What do marketers seek but a loyal customer which is becoming a challenge to maintain in today’s highly competitive, untrusting and commoditized marketplace.

It isn’t hard to find information these days about taking your content marketing to the next level. But what if you’re just getting started with content marketing and feeling like you’re late to the party? Where do you actually begin?

First, let’s define content marketing. My favorite definition comes from Joe Pulizzi, who is one of the original content marketing gurus, emphasis added by me.

“Content marketing is a marketing technique of creating and distributing valuable, relevant and consistent content to attract and acquire a clearly defined audience – with the objective of driving profitable customer action.”

For the vast majority of companies we talk to, however, personalization has stayed largely inthe realm of email marketing. Using marketing automation tools, companies have become adept at triggering emails based on behavior, interests, and demographics.

In this blog I will explore how to create an interactive form in InDesign—an efficient way to create a prototype for usability testing.

When beginning an interactive project in InDesign, I recommend customizing your workspace to include interactive features. Start by going up to the Window menu, then hover over ‘Workspace’ and select ‘Interactive for PDF’.

7 examples of engaging 404 error pages - Smart Insights Digital Marketing Advice

7 examples of engaging 404 error pages - Smart Insights Digital Marketing Advice | Ayantek's User Experience Design Digest | Scoop.it

If you’re not a webmaster, you may not know what a 404 is, although you will certainly have seen them! Technically speaking Wikipedia describe it as ‘The 404 or Not Found error message is a HTTP standard response code indicating that the client was able to communicate with the server, but the server could not find what was requested.’

Your users will describe it, to quote a great TED talk by Renny Gleeson  as ‘a slap in the face, …..you feel like you have fallen through the cracks’

404 pages can be overlooked on a web build, redesign, or general web updates and this is an opportunity missed if your company’s page is, well, annoying and not helpful to the end user. Yes you may never have out-dated pages, and yes someone may just have typed the link incorrectly, or they may have been sent the wrong link.

You're Looking at It Wrong — Why the Web Demands Vertical Screens | Ayantek's User Experience Design Digest | Scoop.it

The first person to twist apart an Oreo, or sit backwards in a chair, or pretend a tennis racket was a guitar — visionaries who recognized that everyday objects used by the masses have higher callings.

I’ve joined them by turning my widescreen monitor vertically. To be clear, I did not invent this idea. People have been rotating monitors 90 degrees since the widescreen was invented. I have just joined them as an acolyte of the modern Internet.

Reaching the Pot of Gold: How Investments in Analytics Are Paying Off | Ayantek

Reaching the Pot of Gold: How Investments in Analytics Are Paying Off | Ayantek | Ayantek's User Experience Design Digest | Scoop.it

There is a lot of buzz currently about analytics and big data, and rightfully so.  The pot of gold that analytics promises is the ability to fully understand customer behavior, derive actionable insights, and further tailor customer experiences to meet the needs of any segment.    As evidenced by the projection that big data will grow to a $53 billion dollar industry by 2017, which is up from $12 billion in 2013, the mandate is clear1.   However, while the investment and expectation exists across many industries, it is not an easy hill to climb to achieve the capabilities needed to derive deep insights and be able to make decisions.  The investments are starting to pay off, though, which indicates there may really be a pot of gold that awaits those who pursue the analytics path.

Why cloud is the future of education technology

Why cloud is the future of education technology | Ayantek's User Experience Design Digest | Scoop.it

Cloud computing is everywhere. In its various forms, it's being adopted across the full technology spectrum, from consumers using it at an alternative to traditional storage to enterprises employing it as an end-to-end infrastructure solution. After visiting Bett 2014, it's also obvious that education stands to benefit from cloud deployment.

In many ways, the needs of schools aren't that different from those of the modern SME: simplified resource management and the efficient, reliable provisioning of key services. Indeed, the increasing importance of cutting-edge tech in education is reflected by the number of blue chip firms looking to enter the space - major vendors like Acer, Google, HP, Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft, Misco, Sony and Toshiba were all out in force at

Why I'm Done with Social Media Buttons - Sam Solomon

Why I'm Done with Social Media Buttons - Sam Solomon | Ayantek's User Experience Design Digest | Scoop.it

As designers, it is our job question why elements should exist. Sometimes we get so caught up in new ideas about navigation and animations that we forget to go back and examine more common elements—like social media buttons.

They are unsightly relics of the web 2.0 era, yet they continue to find their way into new designs. Why does this happen?

I’ve never been fond of them, but for a long time they seemed necessary. Trading some visual appeal for social network traffic is a compromise many make. Plus, it is easy to hop on the bandwagon. If Mashable uses them, why shouldn’t I?

Personas: The Art and Science of Understanding the Person Behind the Visit

Personas: The Art and Science of Understanding the Person Behind the Visit | Ayantek's User Experience Design Digest | Scoop.it

Market segmentation is a basic tenet of marketing that has long been ignored by SEOs. And that's okay, because for a long time working on the keyword-level of abstraction was enough. In fact, you can still do SEO and marketing in any other channel without ever having the idea of market segmentation cross your mind despite (not provided), Hummingbird, and a whole host of changes Google is forcing as of late. That is… if you enjoy 0.04% conversion rates. Right. There have been many posts about personas in the wake of the methods I've popularized for SEO, but nothing that truly walks through the process with data or gives context into how measurement has matured. In this post I'll go into detail about these approaches, giving frameworks and step-by-step instructions on how to build and use personas.

How to Use InDesign for Online Projects | Ayantek

How to Use InDesign for Online Projects | Ayantek | Ayantek's User Experience Design Digest | Scoop.it

As a designer who first fell in love with print design that I saw in magazines like Vogue, I started my career resizing print ads and creating long technical printed books. Through these teeth-cutting projects, I became proficient in InDesign—the industry standard print layout program—an extremely efficient tool for creating consistent, standard layouts.

The demand for online design work continues to grow, along with  the need for wireframes and prototypes to accompany visual design comps. As a designer, why learn an inferior layout program like Visio or PowerPoint for this work? In this blog, I’ll touch on the older features you loved as a print designer that will make wireframes more efficient as well as the new interactive features that make simple prototyping a breeze.
