Mobilizer is a Webkit-based Adobe AIR app that lets you preview your mobile websites, design mockups, and local HTML on a variety of phone shells. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about the various disciplines of design, and how divided they all are from one another (as I’m sure is evidenced by some of my recent articles). Between the desire to be perceived as unique and the needs of a constantly-evolving industry, we’ve coined a large number job titles and functions that have branched out substantially from the roots of graphic design. Information design, information architecture, human-computer interaction, interface design, experience design… all of these disciplines trace their own roots back to graphic design, which represents the human desire for communication made manifest.
