Wing size matters - bigger wings generate greater lift, which can improve an airplane's fuel efficiency. With a 235-foot wingspan, one of the largest in the industry, Boeing's new 777X twin-engine airliner will undercut its competitors in both fuel consumption and operating costs per seat.

The new seats will be located in a "clearly identifiable" separate premium economy compartment between business and economy. Each premium economy area will contain between 21 and 52 seats, depending on the aircraft type.

Again depending on the aircraft, the seats will be up to three centimetres wider and have approximately ten centimetres more room at the side as each one has its own wide armrest and a centre console between the seats.

Airbus Offers To Build A330 Center In China

Airbus Offers To Build A330 Center In China | Aviation | Scoop.it

Airbus is offering to build an A330 completion center in China, probably in Tianjin, says a manufacturing industry official, as the European airframer steps up efforts to promote the type as an answer to China’s shortage of pilots, technicians and airspace capacity.

In return for the completion center, Airbus is asking China to commit to buying a large number of A330s, possibly 200, says the official.

The Chinese government, which heavily influences aircraft purchase by the mainly state-owned airline industry, is still considering the offer.

Air Zimbabwe (UM, Harare Int'l) has had its entire board of directors fired by Zimbabwean Minister of Transport, Obert Mpofu. The airline's management is at the centre of a USD11million insurance scam which recently came to light following a forensic audit of the airline's operations. The airline's CEO Innocent Mavhunga, his predecessor Peter Chikumba and secretary, Grace Pfumbidzayi, were recently arrested and charged with six counts of fraud and another of criminal abuse of office. “The ZRP would like to confirm that Peter Chikumba and Innocent Mavhunga have been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigations into the Air Zimbabwe (Private) Limited fraud case. “Chikumba, a former chief executive of Air Zimbabwe from September 2007 to December 2010, and Innocent Mavhunga, the suspended chief executive, are Grace Nyaradzo Pfumbidzayi’s accomplices in the fraud case,” police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba, told The Herald.

Lessons learned from this prototype are incorporated in the second airplane, to be registered as HB-SIB, construction of which was started in 2011. Its more spacious cockpit will enable the pilot to fully recline during flights lasting from 4 to 6 days; it will have an increased payload; its electrical circuitry will be isolated to enable flights in rain; and system redundancy will improve reliability.

Final tests are taking place and the assembly of the airplane should be completed by the end of 2013. Flight testing is planned for spring 2014, and the round-the-world flight for between April and July 2015.
