Air France says talks with pilots unions fail

Air France says talks with pilots unions fail | Aviation Matters | Scoop.it
Air France said on Wednesday that negotiations with representatives of its pilots over its "Perform 2020" restructuring plan had failed.

Air France, part of Franco-Dutch airline Air France-KLM (AIRF.PA), said in a statement: "The many hours of talks and negotiations, closely followed by the chairman and CEO of Air France, could not yield, within a reasonable timetable, an agreement insuring the growth and competitiveness of the company."

Maybe the solution is to switch to KLM - Air France and be less arrogant for keeping alive such a company !...Remember Pan Am ! Remember Eastern !.... Remember TWA ! .... Remember Swissair !... as they were all having glorious days and passed away. Unless Air France is sold to Qatar !!

Alitalia To Present Final Proposal To Etihad On Thursday - Gulf Business | Aviation Matters | Scoop.it

Have to say, I'm pretty impressed by the range of free content offered by Delta, but I'm interested to see how content management evolves around tracking passenger preferences.  You'd think that intelligence could be monetized--even if the service itself is not.

Air France Shuns Iraq Skies as Carriers Confused on Missile Risk

Air France Shuns Iraq Skies as Carriers Confused on Missile Risk | Aviation Matters | Scoop.it
Air France-KLM Group said it has stopped flying across Iraq, in contrast with Etihad Airways PJSC which is routing jets over the war-torn state as industry leaders meet in an effort to resolve confusion about the safety of operations above combat zones.

The French unit of Europe’s biggest carrier says it quit flying over parts of Iraq months ago and ceased operations entirely last week, with Dutch unit KLM also rerouting services that went over the north of the country. Dubai-based Emirates is likewise working on a plans to divert operations.

This really highlights IATA's call for a universal standard of flight-path notifications, but it may not be as straightforward as IATA and the rest of the world might wish.

4 airline rebrandings Malaysia Airlines can learn from - Digiday

4 airline rebrandings Malaysia Airlines can learn from - Digiday | Aviation Matters | Scoop.it
Malaysia Airlines wouldn't be the first to rebrand after a tragedy.

Via Thomas Faltin
Marisa Garcia's insight:

Sometimes a fresh start is as simple as a refreshed brand and Jason Clampet from Skift explains what to do when that applies very well.  But it's not always as simple as moving past ValueJet history under the AirTran brand name.  Significant operational changes need to take place when safety and security issues are involved.  Malaysia Airlines will need to have the industry join it--the airline can't resolve these very delicate and complex issues alone.

Why Don’t Flight Attendants Dress Like This Anymore?

Why Don’t Flight Attendants Dress Like This Anymore? | Aviation Matters | Scoop.it
Starched white shirts and support hose? Back in the '60s, Braniff International Airlines took its flight crew uniforms higher. Like Jimi Hendrix higher.

Today, when our carry-on bags are overstuffed with survival necessities like edible food and eye masks, noise-canceling headsets and Ambien (to block out the entire experience), it’s hard to imagine the glory days — back when airplane travel was glamorous and elite, and flight attendant style went far beyond dull standard-issue pencil skirts.

It's probably a good thing that Flight Attendants don't dress like this anymore, but it is nice to have the flash-back and to recognise how radical Braniff really was.
