Airbus has commenced the final assembly of its first A330neo, an A330-900, at its Final Assembly Line in Toulouse with the joining of the wings to the centre fuselage at station 40. As the newest member of the world’s most popular A330 wide-body family the A330neo builds on the Family’s proven economics, versatility and reliability, set to reduce fuel consumption by a further 14 per cent per seat. Both the A330-800 and A330-900 feature a new A350-inspired wing with Sharklet wingtip devices for state-of-the-art aerodynamics, incorporating latest-generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, and the new AirSpace by Airbus cabin for the latest experience in cabin comfort.
The airplane is in pieces, now, but it’s in the factory: the 500th Boeing 787. Workers loaded the Air France 787-9 onto the Everett plant’s final assembly line earlier this month, putting the program on track to be the fastest to crank out 500 twin-aisle jetliners. Boeing’s plant here and in North Charleston, South Carolina, are steadily delivering Dreamliners — nearly 12 a month. And the 787s are making good on what matters most to airlines: the company’s big claims to make an airplane that slashes operating costs and opens new markets.
The new aircraft would compete with the Airbus A321neo. Boeing is still studying whether to build a larger version of its best-selling 737 aircraft to counter runaway sales by rival Airbus of a large version of its competing plane, a senior executive said. The company has not made a decision yet to build the larger jet, dubbed the 737 MAX 10, said Michael Teal, vice president and chief project engineer of the 737 MAX program.
Air France will put its first Boeing 787 into service at the beginning of next year. The carrier says the aircraft will be deployed on the Paris-Cairo route from 9 January 2017. It will be equipped with 30 business, 21 premium economy and 225 economy seats. Ahead of serving the Egyptian capital with the Dreamliner, Air France will use the jet to operate four "welcome flights" around Paris on 7 and 8 January.
ST. LOUIS — Boeing on Tuesday revealed its candidate for the Air Force’s next trainer: a single-engine, twin-tailed aircraft made in a partnership with Swedish firm Saab. After a dramatic rollout ceremony punctuated with dubstep music, flashing lights and a dropcloth unveiling of the plane, company executives dropped another bombshell: Boeing has already manufactured two of the jets.
(CNN)A flight to Malaysia from Sydney was diverted to Melbourne after its pilot entered incorrect coordinates of the plane's starting position, an Australian aviation investigation report has found. Carrying 212 passengers, the AirAsia flight bound for Kuala Lumpur on March 10, 2015, was flying in the wrong direction after takeoff from Sydney, because the pilot had manually entered the wrong coordinates of the plane's position into the flight's onboard navigation
Dubai Airports is increasing the number of gates at Dubai International Airport (DXB) capable of handling Airbus A380 superjumbos. The airport operator said it has commissioned a project at Concourse C, which is part of the Emirates Hub at Terminal 3, to increase the number of gates to 13. This will take the total number of A380 gates at DXB to 47 – more than any other airport in the world. Concourse C was developed in 2012 with three A380 gates.
Dramatic footage has surfaced of the world's largest passenger plane battling severe crosswinds as it comes into land. An Emirates A380 was filmed battling through very high winds and rocking violently as it approached Manchester Airport. It can be seen above the roof of a house moving sideways into the wind as part of a special 'crab' landing technique.
Imagine if US Airways Flight 1549 out of New York – operating without a pilot -- had hit the same flock of birds, landed itself on the Hudson River, and saved the lives of 153 passengers and flight attendants.
The colourful and nostalgic world of vintage airline posters, and how to collect them, is explained by a German graphic designer known only as Michael on his attractive and easy-to-navigate website, Propeller Propaganda. Featuring a couple of hundred posters from his personal compilation – dating mainly from the 1930s to 60s, a time before bland uniformity overtook airline marketing – the site also offers advice on assembling collections by airline, aircraft type, poster artist, destination, artistic style and so on.
Air France-KLM Group will overhaul its restructuring efforts, moving away from the previous chief executive’s strategy that strained relations with pilots, to a more conciliatory approach called “Trust Together,” said a person familiar with the plans. Jean-Marc Janaillac, who became CEO in July, will unveil the program in November that seeks to lower costs as well as rebuild trust between management and labor, and between the group’s sister airlines, said the person, who asked for anonymity because the program isn’t public.
For most frequent travelers, airline meals are an aspect of flying that is more endured than enjoyed. In fact, the late Julia Child was famous for bringing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on transatlantic flights, proclaiming, “They even stay good for a day or two if you don’t eat them all on the plane.” One notable exception has always been the airline of Switzerland, first Swissair (March 1931 to March 2002), and its reincarnation on April 1, 2002 as SWISS International Air Lines (www.swiss.com). Like its predecessor, SWISS has carried on the tradition of Swiss hospitality, as practiced in the country’s luxury hotels, in the air.
