The Breguet 761/763/765 were a family of 1940s and 1950s French double-deck transport aircraft produced by Breguet. The aircraft were normally called the Deux-Ponts (Double-Decker) but it was not an official name.

The Provence was used on fewer and fewer passenger services, being replaced by the Caravelle and Vickers Viscount. Six aircraft were transferred to the Armée de l'Air. Air France converted the six remaining Br.763s into freighters with the name Universale. These remained in service on European freight services until the early 1970s. The final flight was on 31 March 1971 from Heathrow to Paris-Orly.

Old planes refurbished to offer taste of luxury

Old planes refurbished to offer taste of luxury | Aviation & Airliners | Scoop.it

The select handful of guests dressed in evening wear bracketed their gourmet dinners with caviar and baked Alaska and washed them down with 16 cases of chilled Dom Perignon poured smartly by liveried stewards.

They lounged in roomy seats, touched up their makeup in vanity mirrors in the lavishly appointed bathrooms, and chatted while the attentive stewards made up their beds for the night.

That’s what high society looked like in 1946. The highest society, in fact, since this star-studded party was aboard the most lavish commercial passenger airplane ever built: the Lockheed Constellation, “Queen of the Air,” which soared only briefly before speed trumped comfort with the advent of the jet.

Britain at serious risk from terrorist drone attacks, experts fear | Aviation & Airliners | Scoop.it

Terrorists could use swarms of drones to bring down passenger aircraft, disperse chemical or biological weapons and target a nuclear power plants in Britain because of our lax aviation rules.

The stark warning comes from former Labour security minister Lord West, who is urging tougher laws to stop jihadists taking advantage of the “march of drone technology” to pull off a low-cost, high-impact attack using drones available for just £300 on the high street.

SOLAR IMPULSE - The First Round-The-World Solar Flight

SOLAR IMPULSE - The First Round-The-World Solar Flight | Aviation & Airliners | Scoop.it

After the Solar Impulse prototype’s 8 world records, when it became the first solar airplane ever to fly through the night, between two continents, and across the United States, it is time for Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg to move on to the final phase of the adventure: the 2015 round-the-world flight.

A great historic first: for such an adventure, as for any premiere, there are no references. We were, and will be, faced with a number of challenges, leading us to push the limits of technological, human and piloting performance.

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Lufthansa and cabin crew have agreed to mediation in a dispute over retirement benefits after talks failed on Friday, adding to the risk of further costly labor strikes at the German airline.

"The position of Lufthansa fell short of what had already been agreed, so further negotiations could not bring any progress," Nicoley Baublies, the head of cabin crew union UFO, which represents 18,000 workers at Lufthansa, said in a statement on Monday.

Expert pilots process multiple visual cues more efficiently, Stanford and VA scientists find

Expert pilots process multiple visual cues more efficiently, Stanford and VA scientists find | Aviation & Airliners | Scoop.it
A new study has found that expert pilots’ brains process visual data more efficiently, allowing them time to make better decisions when landing.

Landing an airplane is one of the most difficult piloting techniques to master, and the stats show it: 36 percent of all airplane accidents and 25 percent of fatalities occur during the final approach and landing.

New research by scientists at the Stanford University School of Medicine and the VA Palo Alto Health Care System reveals that expert pilots make better decisions during this phase than less experienced pilots because their brains behave more efficiently.

Frequent flyers reveal the tricks and tips that make flying through North America's most frustrating airports more tolerable.

Some 3.55 million people are expected to fly this Thanksgiving weekend, making this year’s busiest travel weekend the most crowded since 2007, according to AAA.
