We live in a studio apartment that is about 4 times the size of a tiny home. It is very cramped. I do not see how more than one person who has plenty of room outside to stretch can live comfortably in a Tiny Home.

"Vasso’s life has become a nightmare. She has lost the ability to do the one thing she loves: paint. A severe form of Multiple Sclerosis stiffens her joints and makes it impossible for her to hold a brush. The Long Island native fights against cramps and pain to express herself. But she is haunted and paralyzed as well by a dark and violent past. It is only when a local gallery owner becomes interested in her work that she finds hope". (39 minutes, profanity)

Alison D. Gilbert's insight:

A story of both shock and amazement. I want very much to see this documentary.

An Art Show Dedicated Entirely To Hot Sauce Is Making Our Spicy Dreams Come True

An Art Show Dedicated Entirely To Hot Sauce Is Making Our Spicy Dreams Come True | Avant-garde Art & Design | Scoop.it

Most of the time, discussions revolving around the divine genre of condiments known as hot sauce are passionate, divisive and potentially dangerous. Some hearts beat for the sweet and garlicky taste of Sriracha, while others would sacrifice their lives for the South of the Border kick of Tapatio. Then there are the Tabasco lovers but, come on, their opinions are not valid.

Alison D. Gilbert's insight:

I like the art but not the sauce.

"Architect Vincent Callebaut has unveiled ambitious plans to create an energy-producing community comprising 45 futuristic villas in the southwestern Chinese city of Kunming. Though likely to remain on the drawing board for the foreseeable future, the Flavours Orchard concept offers plenty of food for thought and some interesting renders to pore over."

Interview: Garden designer Dan Pearson on London's planned Garden Bridge

Interview: Garden designer Dan Pearson on London's planned Garden Bridge | Avant-garde Art & Design | Scoop.it

"Plans for London's proposed Garden Bridge are beginning to flourish following the recent confirmation that the UK government and Transport for London (TfL) will each commit £30 million (US$50 million) of funding to the project. Conceived by Joanna Lumley, designed by architect Thomas Heatherwick and to be planted by renowned horticulturist Dan Pearson, the bridge will provide a green public space and a link between the bohemian South Bank and lively Covent Garden."

Alison D. Gilbert's insight:

This sounds like an absolutely fascinating project. It will be a pedestrian Garden Bridge over the Thames River. The architect is Thomas Heatherwick of the Seed Cathedral and the horticulturalist is Dan Pearson. The idea was conceived by Joanna Lumley.

Austria: World-class architecture joins high-level sustainability at new Vienna university | GizMag.com

Austria: World-class architecture joins high-level sustainability at new Vienna university | GizMag.com | Avant-garde Art & Design | Scoop.it

The new campus of the WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) is a like a smorgasbord of 21st century architecture, with signature buildings by Zaha Hadid Hitoshi Abe and Estudio Carme Pinós, among others. But the world-class campus has equally high standards for energy efficiency and sustainability.

Though the buildings of the 100,000 square-meter (1 million sq-ft) campus were created by a roster of international talent, the master plan was conceived by the Viennese office of BUSarchitektur in partnership with BOA (büro für offensive aleatorik, or "Studio for Offensive Randomness"). BUS also designed the Teaching Center.

The school opened in October 2013 to 25,000 students and 1,500 faculty, but its green energy ethos was in place well beforehand, as work was carried out according to Guidelines for Sustainable Construction. These include environmentally-friendly logistics and the reduction of traffic, dust and pollution during building.

Frank Gehry Is Still the World's Worst Living Architect

Frank Gehry Is Still the World's Worst Living Architect | Avant-garde Art & Design | Scoop.it
While it's been widely known for at least a decade that Frank Gehry is the world's worst living architect, it's not entirely clear why some people—mostly very rich clients—haven't picked up on this yet. The utterly god awful and ridiculous Biomuseo in Panama, an eco-discovery center that cost at least $60 million and took a decade to construct, is only the most recent case in point.
Alison D. Gilbert's insight:

FRANK GEHRY cannot be as bad as this article says. But perhaps he is, as an architect, as theatrical as the writer of this article in using such extravagant gestures.
