This article discuses some of the positive uses for Autotune. Autotune can be used in moderation to enhance a vocal performance. Although Autotune can sometimes be used as a crutch, there is a misconception that it is used as a cure all for bad vocal artists, this isn't exactly true. Even with the use of Autotune, the artist has to have some form of vocal talent. Autotune isn't magic and it doesn't fix everything.

This article basically provides one of the pro-Anti-Tune views, albeit with a slight diversion near the end. A bit insightful, albeit with a view some readers don't necessarily agree with. This being a music site, I think it's pretty resourceful and accurate.

Oh, my ears! Auto-Tune is ruining music

Oh, my ears! Auto-Tune is ruining music | Autotune and what it's done for the industry | Scoop.it
The device makes everyone sound good, which isn’t so good. The prevalence of Auto-Tune comes from two longstanding pop music traditions — the desire to alter the human voice and the quest for perfection at the expense of real talent and emotion.
Justin Williams's insight:

This article pretty much sums up my topic idea. it goes into detail about how artists use to actually sign and how now a days people can get by, by their looks and the aid of auto tune.

There are some that enjoy the sound of Auto-tune and its ability to enhance singers and rappers and there are some that find no need for them to enhance the existing talents of artist today.

Auto-Tune - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Auto-Tune is an audio processor created by Antares Audio Technologies, which uses a proprietary device to measure and alter pitch in vocal and instrumental music recording and performances through use of a phase vocoder.[2][not in citation given] It was originally intended to disguise or correct off-key inaccuracies, allowing vocal tracks to be perfectly tuned despite originally being slightly off-key.

The processor slightly bends pitches to the nearest true semitone (to the exact pitch of the nearest tone in traditional equal temperament). Auto-Tune can also be used as an effect to distort the human voice when pitch is raised or lowered significantly.[3] The overall effect to the discerning ear can be described as hearing the voice leap from note to note stepwise, like a synthesizer.

Auto-Tune is available as a plug-in for professional audio multi-tracking suites used in a studio setting and as a stand-alone, rack-mounted unit for live performance processing.[4] Auto-Tune has become standard equipment in professional recording studios.[5]
