Robots should seen be seen as taking over some human jobs. Such as taxi drivers or doctors. It will prove to be much more efficient, for example a robot taxi driver could calculate the fastest route to your destination including traffic jams and traffic lights.

It is really interesting that when an object, even a drawing has a human face, we automatically have the ability to create a bond with it and relate to it. Facial expressions generate brain chemical responses even when we know the image, or in this case robot has no feelings. The Author Philip K Dick had many great books and stories (Do Androids Dream of electric Sheep) looking at the human side of this interaction, as opposed to Asimov who looked at ethics and interactions from a more scientific perspective. There are inherent risks because there are no laws governing what a robot can or can't do, but the future of humans interacting with robots in the home and in the wider world is inevitable. There need to be standards established urgently.
