How And Why Content Marketing Works

How And Why Content Marketing Works | Auto Shop Marketing Help Summer 2015 | Scoop.it
There's no question about it: An effective content marketing campaign will increase your organic search traffic. Contributor Eric Enge discusses how you can implement a solid content marketing strategy.
Ed Burckhardt's insight:

Yes, it is a lot of work, but the results are great! All our clients using our blogging system have upwards of 2 and 300 pages indexed by Google. How does it help you ask? Searchers are getting quite savvy with the way they search. By instance, it used to be that people would search simply for auto repair, or auto service. These days many search with their actual needs; "need to replace fuel filter in my Honda". The long tail keywords directly target the content in the blog article that refers to why you need to change your fuel filter. Thus resulting in that page showing at the top of the search results. Yes, Content is King!

Book An Appointment Right From The Search Results With Google's Latest Test | Auto Shop Marketing Help Summer 2015 | Scoop.it
"Book an appointment" feature is now appearing in some knowledge panel results.
Ed Burckhardt's insight:

When Google changed, a couple weeks ago, from the 7 Google My Business/Map Directory listings (AKA 7 pack) to 3 listings only, I knew they were on their way to monetize it. Now, would this new testing feature "Book an appointment", end up being Pay-Per-Lead? I guess time will tell, and most likely soon.

Google Market Share: 67 Percent On PC, 83 Percent In Mobile

Google Market Share: 67 Percent On PC, 83 Percent In Mobile | Auto Shop Marketing Help Summer 2015 | Scoop.it
Last week comScore released its August US search market share rankings report. It appears Google has permanently plateaued at 67 percent (or so). In Europe
Ed Burckhardt's insight:

Isn't it befuddling that some online marketing companies are still convincing clients that they don't need a Mobile Website? The most common argument they use, we already designed a "Responsive Website" for you! Which is what prompted me to write an article a couple weeks ago about the "Responsive vs Mobile Website Debate"  If you read the article, you'll see what Google's latest recommendations are, in their Google Mobile Playbook 2nd edition.

As in many instances, it depends on the type of business. In the case of an auto repair shop, it's absolutely asinine not having a mobile website.

You Can Now Say “No, Thanks” To Google+ | Auto Shop Marketing Help Summer 2015 | Scoop.it
Signing up for Google+ is no longer a requirement for new Gmail users.
Ed Burckhardt's insight:

Great Move Google! Maybe this will help encourage people to get a GMail account to start posting reviews. My wishful thinking, that our clients will stop telling us, "I ask, and not too many people, have a GMail account." Let's face it, when it comes to reviews, Yelp with their dubious and "legal" practices, has steamrolled the heck out of Google Places - Local - MyBusiness. Come on Google, start showing some mercy for the SMB's that need reviews badly.

NSA Secretly Trying To Map The Internet — Including All Devices Connected To It — In Real-Time

NSA Secretly Trying To Map The Internet — Including All Devices Connected To It — In Real-Time | Auto Shop Marketing Help Summer 2015 | Scoop.it
The National Security Agency along with its British counterpart the Government Communications Headquarters and several other nations are secretly trying to map the entire Internet in real-time, creating a worldwide surveillance tool on the scale of Google Earth. Spiegel Online reports the ambitious program, codenamed “Treasure Map” (complete with its own glowing skull moniker) seeks to identify Internet routers and millions of individual devices in order to create an ”interactive map of the global Internet” in “near real-time,” which would allow intelligence analysts to “map the entire Internet — Any device, anywhere, all the time,” according to documents leaked by ex-NSA contractor Edward Snowden. Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are jointly involved in the effort, which the report described “as a kind of Google Earth for global data traffic, a bird’s eye view of the planet’s digital arteries.” The system could also be used to plan online attacks as a map of the world’s digital battlefield.

Google: Responsive Design Is Not A Ranking Signal Boost

Google: Responsive Design Is Not A Ranking Signal Boost | Auto Shop Marketing Help Summer 2015 | Scoop.it
We know Google demotes non mobile friendly web sites in smartphone search results. But for some reason, there is a debate if Google gives a ranking boost to responsive design sites over other mobile
Ed Burckhardt's insight:

Well, this surely reinforces my belief, that prompted me to write the article "Applying a bit of logic to the “Responsive vs Mobile” debate". There are a few online marketing companies out there, convincing their clients that they don't need a Mobile Website. If you read my article, I mentioned the Google Mobile Playbook 2nd edition Chapter 2, which states "“Make sure to design for mobile, rather than simply taking content from your desktop site and making it fit on a mobile screen”. In the case of Auto Repair Shops, not having a mobile website is simply a profit leak.
