Unipart bulb offer from Pellon Autocentre-Halifax-UK

Unipart bulb offer from Pellon Autocentre-Halifax-UK | Auto centres and Garages | Scoop.it
Unipart halogen bulbs are the perfect solution for passenger car bulb applications. They provide immediate light, offer the best light quality with perfect colour reproduction...
eric roberts's insight:

As a member of the Unipart Car Care Scheme (UCCC) we occasionally add some offers to our already competitive repair and car servicing prices.

Your cars light bulbs are very important especially in winter time when the hours of darkness are very long. How often do we see car driving along with one headlight missing?

In fact in some countries it is a legal requirement to carry a spare set of light bulbs in your car. the Unipart bulb offer, will give you the peace of mind, that you are carrying a spare set.

One drawback to this though, is that not all light bulbs are easy to fit in some modern cars?

On certain models we have to remove whole parts of the cars to get at a light bulb and change it.

Some BMW models have their side light located inside the headlight unit, these are known as "angel eye"bulbs.

Also some Renault models, such as the Megane  are located under the wheel arch and the bulb is accessed through a very small hole. because the bulb is a twist fit then it is very difficult to fit. Another Renault model is the Twingo. You have to remove the bumper on this model to access the light bulbs and change them.

If a customer has any difficulties then we will always help them and even fit the the bulbs if required by the customer.

Winter Check at Pellon Autocentre-Halifax-UK | Auto centres and Garages | Scoop.it
Make sure your car is ready for the worst of winter with the comprehensive Burrows Winter Check
eric roberts's insight:

Winter conditions will soon be upon us here in the Northern Hemisphere?

This reminder from  Burrows Garage in Doncaster here in the UK, reminded me of the winter checks that we also offer to our customers here in Halifax, Yorkshire UK.

For a small sum of £19.90 we will give your car a winter check over. We check out the washer and wiper and replenish them with de-icing fluid (anti-freeze). We check the anti-freeze levels in the cars cooling system, as well as the lights and tyres.

This is a popular service for our customers and helps prepare their cars for the worst of the winter ahead.

If we do find any problems with the tyre or lights, then we inform the customer before any other action is taken. We never fit any new parts without the customers permission.

BMW Hand brake problem-Why do my brakes need servicing?

Brakes are without doubt one of the most crucial part of your car and making sure they are working effectively is vital. Watch this video to see if you are ...
eric roberts's insight:

This is a good and simple video explaining about why your car brakes need servicing every once in a while.

As the owner of a garage we see drivers pulling in with many different types of problems. from rattling and banging brakes, to the "my brakes don't work at all brigade", like most garages we see them all.

Most problems would have been solved by the driver having the cars brakes serviced once in a while. The problem is that we all lead busy lives and time flies by, well you know what i mean.

Before you know it the brakes dont work very well and you start to panic.

BMW Hand brake problem

This is exactly what happened today(September 22nd 2015) A guy turned up out of the blue and told us the story about how he nearly lost his car. He parked the BMW on a hill, pulled on the handbrake and as he started to exit the car, it started to roll back down the hill.

Lucky for him, the guy was  agile and shot back into he car and put on the foot brake. With a very fast beating heart he drove the car straight to my garage here in Halifax UK.

When we examined the BMW Hand brake problem, we found that it had discs all the way round. The hand brake on this model is connected to the disc by a small brake drum. This drum had completely rusted up and was completely ineffective, it just did not work?

We explained that this BMW Hand brake problem could have been picked up at a brake service. After a good clean up and some new shoes, the BMW Hand brake problem was solved and the guy went on his way.

Brake Safety Awareness Month - Boston.com (blog)

Brake Safety Awareness Month - Boston.com (blog) | Auto centres and Garages | Scoop.it
Stop what you're doing and think for a moment. When was the last time you had your brakes checked?
eric roberts's insight:

it  surprises me when i still see the amount of car owners that come into my service centre (Pellonautocentre) here in Halifax UK, with complaints of squeaks and bad rattling noises coming from their cars, when driving along?

I must also confess, that the majority of the car owners are ladies?

Not all but a 60/40% split is about the average. Anyhow we do get our fair share of brake problems, because we live in a hilly area and the customers are using their brakes more, (especially when going downhill). I am not complaining because the brake business can be very lucrative and garages can make a good margin.

The problem with brakes is that when they start to wear out then the wear spreads to other parts. For example if your pads are worn down to the metal, then it is likely that you will damage the brake discs. This can then go onto damage your brake calipers and so on.

The best and safest bet is to have your brakes checked and serviced at a regular period. This will "nip any early problems in the bud" and possibly save you money on future repairs.

Halfords Autocentres missed 11 of the 20 basic faults on trading standards dept's deliberately sabotaged car
eric roberts's insight:

wow servicing a car is one of the easiest things to do for any decent mechanic. There is no need to scam a customer , just do a decent job. As a single garage owner here in the UK i find this kind of thing despicable.

there is no need to take short cuts?

This sort of thing should have been picked out by their higher management, before it was picked up by trading standard and is not the sort of bad publicity the the garage trade needs.

Your local garage would have to close down if it was fined £47000 WOW.

Do I Have To Service My New Car At The Dealership? | Guelph Hyundai Blog

Do I Have To Service My New Car At The Dealership? | Guelph Hyundai Blog | Auto centres and Garages | Scoop.it
An answer to the popular question "do I have to service my new car at the dealership?" straight from the horses mouth, Guelph Hyundai's very own Service Advisor.
eric roberts's insight:

The answer is NO?

"If you are a garage  with a good reputation then the answer is In order to keep a warranty valid, the customer must perform all of the maintenance that is required, and specified, in the owner’s manual to maintain the vehicle’s warranty"

This applies in the USA and also here in the European Union, including here in Halifax Yorkshire, UK.

We are all covered by a right to repair law, that allows us to repair cars that are still under warranty, as long as the service parts fitted are up to the same standard as the ones fitted as original equipment, by the car manufacturers.

This also applies to any new equipment that the car makers may bring out, they must release the patents for the aftercare garages o be able to repair and service the cars.

This prevents a closed shop scenario from being created, with the new cars going to the main dealers only.

Toyota are having to release many patents to do with the EV cars, so that your regular garage can have a chance of repairing them.

Your car brakes are the ultimate defense against the accidents.

eric roberts's insight:

A good informative article about the need to look after your car brakes? although there are many such articles, this is a better one. it shows how important it is to look after your cars brakes and have them serviced at regular intervals.

This also includes VANS?

Vans are often filled to their capacity and the brakes work much faster than the average cars brakes. So if you are a van driver, then make sure that you have your brakes checked at regular intervals.

servicing your car-How car servicing can save you money

servicing your car-How car servicing can save you money | Auto centres and Garages | Scoop.it
A healthy engine is an efficient engine. We take you through some practical maintenance tips that can reduce your car’s running costs.
eric roberts's insight:

servicing your car? these are the words that we garage owners keep harping on about.

It is in fact a very important part of owning a car?looking after it. A car requires care and attention just like any other machine with millions of moving parts.

Servicing your car can be as cheap or expensive as you like. Car servicing costs all depend on where you take your car. In my opinion, and as a garage owner for the past forty years, then one of the first things to look for is the appearance of the garage from the outside.

A good clean and well presented garage will reflect the care and attention that owners will provide your car with.

Also look for an independent garage if possible. Big chain garages look good but they are driven by bonus schemes and i have heard of some horror stories, about overcharging their customers. Independent garages are looking for a long term customer relationship, we want you to return to us in the future. We also want you tell your friends and family about the good experience and value for money that you had when you visited our   car servicing workshop.

In fact servicing your car her in the Halifax area of Yorkshire, should be a good experience without hurting your pocket.

Self Driving cars-Doomsday Scenario- Here are the ways self-driving cars will change our world

Self Driving cars-Doomsday Scenario- Here are the ways self-driving cars will change our world | Auto centres and Garages | Scoop.it
Garages will cease to exist, become reclaimable real estate…and other ways #autonomous cars will change our lives: http://t.co/xey203y2re
eric roberts's insight:

Wow if like me you work in the auto industry then we had better be looking for another job?

This article portrays a nightmare scenario for the whole of the motor industry?

Why?

Driverless Cars.

You have to read it and keep nipping yourself every now and again. I still do not see a future for self driving cars and just think that it is huge companies with shed loads of money to burn.

I can not see how you could even start mixing the self driving cars on the same rods as cars with human drivers.

These self driving cars can not think like humans. it was proven when  self driving cars were stuck on a roundabout, during in testing. The car could not think how to join the roundabout, because all the human drivers were using their brains and speed of thought. They were nipping out, leaving the  self driving cars with no where to go.

Also the auto industry generates billions of dollars to the various exchequers  and employs billions of workers. How are these things going to replace the lost revenue from taxes.

Also what about the insurance problems and the emergency services, what are they going to use?

My blood is boiling at the moment, so i will cut short, but i don't think it will ever happen, only perhaps on a new planet in three hundred years from now.

Women Not Charged More For Car Repairs Despite Media Claims - motoring.co.uk

Women Not Charged More For Car Repairs Despite Media Claims - motoring.co.uk | Auto centres and Garages | Scoop.it
Women not charged more than men for car repairs despite recent claims in the media, WhoCanFixMyCar.com argues.
eric roberts's insight:

When i saw the original post that accused service garages of overcharging female customers, i became very angry?

This article comes a little nearer the truth and finds that the reverse is more like the truth. I would like to think that on a like for like job, then men and women would be charged the same, but i am sure that each gender leans a little towards his or hers type of  customer.

I noticed a few years ago now that our female customer base was increasing and has now overtaken the men for visits to my service centre garage.

We have always been fair and honest with all our customers and i think that this has come across extremely well with our lady car owners. In fact i went a step further and now employ a female manager, to run my garage.

Deb has great strengths in the customer relations department and is excellent with both men and women customers, but i do not mind admitting that ladies do trust another lady in the garage environment and it is proving a very successful  move on my behalf, with no negative affects, in all departments.

This article has been sen to prove that in most cases women are let off more lightly when quoted for a like for like job? don't ask me why, but i think it may be closer to the truth than being overcharged by garages as the last report suggested.

Regular car servicing is important

Regular car servicing is important | Auto centres and Garages | Scoop.it
Repeated parlor car servicing is monocratic: DAXD http://t.co/E1m7qa9Qpn
eric roberts's insight:

car servicing is really important. I cannot over emphasis how important it is.

if your car was left to its own devices and not have a service then you will start to get all sorts of problems occurring.

The first problems will come from your cars performance. This will start to deteriorate as the cars oil gets thinner and blacker and the filters start to clog up with black gunge?

We have many customers who are neighbors of ours. We often take their cars into my garage in Halifax Yorkshire UK for servicing. There is a distinct difference in performance when i bring the cars home. They are faster and run much better after a regular service.

This also affects the brakes of the car. Without a service your car would literally grind to a halt as your brakes start to fall apart and you hear all the nasty grinding and squealing noises, that are associated with bad brakes.
