“Game Ranger: Extracts from a Game Ranger's Notebook” published by AuthorHouse

“Game Ranger: Extracts from a Game Ranger's Notebook” published by AuthorHouse | AuthorHouse Books | Scoop.it
HERMANUS, South Africa (PRWEB) December 12, 2013 -- Author announces release of ‘Game Ranger.’
Angelyn Cañete's insight:

“Game Ranger” takes readers into a remote outpost in Zululand, where dangerous game roam free. Based in this isolated region, Henwood spent many years in the bush, helping protect the wildlife that he loved. In the book, he shares accounts of stopping poachers and working to capture and release nearly 2,500 rhinoceroses throughout his career.

An excerpt from “Game Ranger”:

“I brought the butt of my rifle into my shoulder, took aim and fired all in one fluid motion. My point of aim was the animal’s nose, however I later found out that my first bullet clipped the animal’s left cheek and entered at the base of the neck, mushrooming as it entered, causing major trauma in the body. The animal reared up on its hind legs like a horse would do, pawing the air with its outstretched front legs. I instinctively reloaded and fired again from the hip at point blank range, hitting the animal in the middle of the chest with the bullet entering through the rib cage, passing through the heart and coming to rest against the spine.”

AuthorHouse | Beyond Compulsion

AuthorHouse | Beyond Compulsion | AuthorHouse Books | Scoop.it
AuthorHouse Book Reviews presents Desmond Valencia's thriller Beyond Compulsion, recently awarded a four-star rating from Clarion Review.
Angelyn Cañete's insight:

Clarion Review awarded Beyond Compulsion four stars out of five. This is what they had to say:

“Readers will come to know Georges as an icon of evil. They will be shocked by his emotional, psychological, and physical abuse of Serena as Valencia insightfully depicts how the psychopathic sadist’s “greatest triumph in life came from taking fundamentally decent human beings and corrupting them totally.” His callous treatment of others besides Serena, such as the tourist he rapes, the prostitute he strangles, and the casino dealer he kills, are more examples of his depravity. And to send additional shivers up the reader’s spine, there are the chilling details of the S&M club members engaging in perversions so gross even Georges “felt a momentary twinge of fear.”

AuthorHouse Childrens Book | Charlie and the Ice Dragon

AuthorHouse Childrens Book | Charlie and the Ice Dragon | AuthorHouse Books | Scoop.it
AuthorHouse Book Reviews presents Charlie and the Ice Dragon, a four-star fantasy story for children by self-published author Gary R. J. Hopkins
Angelyn Cañete's insight:

Clarion Review gives the book four (out of five) stars. This is what they have to say:

“This is simply a kid’s fantasy come true, with vast legions of elves, dwarfs, and dragons rushing into battle alongside boys wearing silver and gold helmets, wielding jewel-encrusted swords and exhibiting limitless bravery.

Hopkins alternates the sweeping battle scenes with humorous interludes that provide comic relief from the drama. Azrimore, the ice dragon who accompanies the boys on their adventure, has a stunning ability to pull entire meals from under his scales, for instance. Azrimore’s dubious code of honor, along with Peter’s willingness to say whatever is on his mind, keep things real in a land populated by barons, lords, kings, and princes given to planning their days based on magical prophecies.”

AuthorHouse Fiction Book Review | The Not-So-Grim Folk Tales

AuthorHouse Fiction Book Review | The Not-So-Grim Folk Tales | AuthorHouse Books | Scoop.it
AuthorHouse Book Reviews presents A. A. King's fantasy novel, The Not-So-Grim Folk Tales, recipient of a five-star Clarion review
Angelyn Cañete's insight:

Today, AuthorHouse Book Reviews presents self-published author A. A. King’s The Not-So-Grim Folk Tales, recipient of a five-star Clarion review.

From the author’s overview of the book:

“In addition to incorporating a small amount of actual history, events from various fantasy stories are woven into these tales. Cinderella and Snow White are there, but not in the same way with the same story. In addition to characters and events from the Grimm brothers, the tales borrow from more modern authors such as Porter, Poe, Pullman, and Rowling–even Star Wars. Thus characters go back and forth in time, enchanted frogs and ravens appear, enchanted mirrors become enchanted paintings, a glass slipper becomes an enchanted earring, an animagu becomes a magimorph and the force is with us–only it’s not the force.”

DUDLEY, England (PRWEB) December 11, 2013 -- New autobiography inspires hope and encouragement to abused and neglected children.
Angelyn Cañete's insight:

Hoping to inspire others who have been neglected or abused as a child and encourage them to stand up against it, author Doly has penned “Overcoming All Odds” (published by AuthorHouse), an autobiographical look at how the author fought to obtain her freedom and accomplish her dream.

AuthorHouse Book | Jack London: A Man In Search Of Meaning: A Jungian Perspective

AuthorHouse Book | Jack London: A Man In Search Of Meaning: A Jungian Perspective | AuthorHouse Books | Scoop.it
Denver (PRWEB) December 12, 2013 -- ‘Jack London: A Man In Search Of Meaning’ Compares Jack London’s and Carl Jung’s Lives, Provides Analysis in New Book
Angelyn Cañete's insight:

“London was dedicated to the betterment of his fellow man, while always seeming to have been tormented by the question of the meaning of life,” says Gabel. “The unsatisfactory answers to this question that came to his consciousness were associated with alcoholism, depression, suicidal thoughts and great personal turmoil.” In “Jack London: A Man In Search Of Meaning,” Gabel theorizes that applying Jung’s individuation process into London’s conscious life may have made his life more satisfying and less tumultuous.

Gabel also traces the development of London’s relationship to personal meaning on conscious and unconscious levels over the course of his life. Considering historical facts of London’s life, their possible psychological significance and analytical interpretations of his life and selected writings, Gabel discusses the issue of personal meaning, as understood within the Jungian framework.

Special Forces Officer Pens Emotional Memoir, "Blood on the Risers" about Vietnam War Coming of age explored in new Vietnam memoir. Arlington, Texas (PRWEB) November 26, 2013 Contrary to the way Vi...
Angelyn Cañete's insight:

The book’s major theme is coming of age and the loss of innocence. When young men are thrown into violent and stressful situations, their virtuousness is ripped away as they are forced to make mature and life altering decisions. The book offers a first-hand look at life at war from the perspective of a young Texas boy who is nurtured and molded into a leader of the elite ‘Green Berets’.

“Blood on the Risers” answers many of the questions of ‘what was it really like over there’,” O’Shea said. “It provides a blunt and factual portrayal of Vietnamese culture and corruption as well as insight into the lives of American soldiers, including trite inter-service rivalries during the war.”

AuthorHouse Book Review – The H Factor

AuthorHouse Book Review – The H Factor | AuthorHouse Books | Scoop.it
AuthorHouse Book Reviews presents L. E. Indianer's The H Factor, a political thriller that received a five-star rating from Clarion Review.
Angelyn Cañete's insight:

If political thrillers are your genre, AuthorHouse Book Reviews has just what you’re looking for. Today, we present The H Factor, by self-published author L. E. Indianer.

From the author’s overview of the book:

“Marc Garrett and Gerri Miller meet in the first semester of their freshman year at Georgia Tech. Both major in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. They become romantically involved by the second semester and partner for a three-year undergraduate thesis. Their ambitious project involves the design of the “H Factor,” a device which will separate hydrogen from water, convert it into energy, and could eliminate the need for fossil fuels. Their goals are three-fold: improve the environment and reduce global warming, eliminate the United States’ and its allies’ dependence on foreign oil, and stop the revenues that the oil produces to fund terrorism around the world.

When the H Factor passes its tests on the proving grounds of Universal Motors, Marc and Gerri face unforeseen dangers. Desperate to obtain the technology and unable to block production of the new hydrogen converter, Iranian government officials set in motion plans to forcibly seize it and its inventors. The Israeli Mossad gets wind of this and passes it on to the CIA, who in turn alerts Gerri and Marc. Faced with a deadly confrontation in the midst of global turmoil, the students are determined to survive. Their actions and decisions drive rapidly to a startling conclusion.”
