It is sad that such scrutiny is applied to NGOs to the detriment of the development of their staff. Surely the more highly skilled they are, the greater the impact the staff will have? It is time that the focus shifted from the demonised "overheads" to "effectiveness" - instead we should seek to encourage NGOs to maximise the returns from every dollar donated. The overheads are irrelevant.

While the sliding dollar is good for exporters, the decline in the price of ores is having a far greater impact upon employment ih n the miniing sector. Here's just one example of many in which jobs are being cut.

The news from America may be pertinent to developments here in Australia. Whereas an increase in part-time employment might, in some situations, be indicative of a fall in full-time employment, it is often the case that part-time employment is actually wanted, such as by students, seasonal workers or mothers returning to work.
