Kirrina's insight:

"

Breast cancer survivors suffer physical impairment after oncology treatment. This impairment reduces quality of life (QoL) and increase the prevalence of handicaps associated to unhealthy lifestyle (for example, decreased aerobic capacity and strength, weight gain, and fatigue). Recent work has shown that exercise adapted to individual characteristics of patients

is related to improved overall and disease-free survival."

Health and aged-care costs are expected to almost double in the next 40 years for

federal and state governments, says the Business Council of Australia, which has called for a debate on the nation’s priorities. Research commissioned by the council suggests that  on present rates of population growth and ageing the cost of care to governments in Australia will surge to 14.5 per cent of gross domestic product by

2049-50 from 8

per cent in 2009-10 (Business Council of Australia, 2011).

Factors affecting front line staff acceptance of telehealth technologies: a mixed-method systematic review - Brewster - 2013 - Journal of Advanced Nursing - Wiley Online Library | Australian e-health | Scoop.it

If telehealth is to be implemented, studies indicate that the lack of acceptance of this new way of working may be a key barrier. However, recommendations have not moved beyond barrier identification to recognizing solutions that might be implemented by front-line staff. Such solutions are imperative if future roll-out of telehealth technologies is to be successfully achieved.

User Tailored E-Health Services

This thesis describes a method to offer personalised healthcare. It is motivated by a desire for more efficient healthcare, as population ages and care demand and costs increase. Developing and testing individually tailored health services using ICT fits in this motivation, as it leads to more adequate information provided to care receivers and caregivers, a shift in tasks from caregiver to care receiver, and most of all: health services that empower as they are personalised towards individual needs.
