Our Indigenous Garden: WebQuest on Use of Native Plants - Youth Engagement via ICT | australian bush foods | Scoop.it

Australians are now beginning to realise what a wealth of interesting resources are available in the bush and appreciate our local plants as a source of food and much more. Most people have heard the term "Bush Tucker". But what exactly is bush tucker?

In this WebQuest youth will explore the plants used by the Australian Aborigines for food, shelter, medicine and utensils, and the technology they employed to fully utilise the resources available.

Very detailed course outline with extensive list of links.

Melissa Conroy's curator insight, May 30, 2013 2:01 AM

This is a webquest designed by the University of Sydney about Native Pants and examining the way in which Aboriginal's ultised these plants. Students are require to create a Garden modelling their understanding and an interactive kiosk/ or power point to inform visitors of the plants in their garden.

There is an extensive list of resources provided with this web quest and it would be useful in an older Primary school classroom as part of an intergrated unit focusing on plants and animals. However, alot of the elements could be adapted to a younger classroom.

The web quest meets several of  the elaborations listed in the Draft Australian Curriculum.
