AUSTRALIA'S most senior Catholic, George Pell, says Pope Francis will support national church leaders in the struggle against sexual abuse and give priority to victims.
Olivia Calandra's insight:

A new pope, Pope Francis has been elected to represent the catholic faith. The catholic faith is global and affects many people all around the world. Religion is a part of our culture and the election of a new Pope is extremely important as he is the one which represents us as catholics. The Archishop of Sydney George Pell, was also one of the candidates to become Pope, further linking us in Australia with the vatican and the catholic faith.

Aussie hope springs eternal then gets smacked back down again

Aussie hope springs eternal then gets smacked back down again | Australia's Role in the Reigon | Scoop.it
DESPAIR you can live with, but it is the hope that is killing Australian cricket fans. Every time the visitors look like making a fist of this match or getting a handle on this series, they are smacked back down.
Olivia Calandra's insight:

Cricket is a major sport representing the Australian Nation, It has been a sport which has been a part of our culture and Australia has quite a reputation for been skillful at this sport. At this point in time there is quite a rivalry between Australia and India as Australia is being competely 'smashed' so to sepak. We constantly hear it on the news, but Australia has no hope of making it back up to the top, especially after this weeks performance with India getting over 180 runs not out. I believe that this siginificantly interlinks us with international countires and is one of the major topics of discussion at the moment.

Tourism Australia reboots interactive campaign

TOURISM Australia is rebooting its interactive campaign as it attempts to revive the domestic market.
Olivia Calandra's insight:

I actually had no idea that the domestic market in Australia wasnt looking good. I feel that tourism in Australia is quite good as Australia is quite a popular destination. This article is showing how Australia has launced campaigns to basically 'sell' the country and in order to best promote Australia. Residents are being surveyed and asked to share their faviorite domentsic destination in exchange of a luxury holiday so they can improve their promotion campaigns. This article is showing how tourism, attracting tousists and promoting the country is very important. This article is proving how many Australians and other tousits are tending to go to other overseas as the dollar is stronger. Overall, this article is basically  explaining how Australia needs to come out on top and attract more people despite the economy. This links us with other countires as they are our tousists, they are the ones who are supporting our economy.

Defence prepares for new era as troops come home

Defence prepares for new era as troops come home | Australia's Role in the Reigon | Scoop.it
DEFENCE chiefs are bracing for an exodus of experienced personnel as Australia draws down operations in Afghanistan, East Timor and the Solomon Islands.
Olivia Calandra's insight:

This particular news report is linked with the area of defence in Australia. This atricle is showing how after much loss in Afghanistan, East Timor and the Solomon Islands, the Australian soliders are being sent home. I do believe that it is important to be allied with other countires, but the safety of Australian solders and their families should be put first. When these soldiers enter battle, they are putting their lives on the line and leaving their loved ones behind. Too many unnecessary lives have been lost. After learning about the experiences of the other soldiers who have experienced first hand the brutal and demanding conditions of the war, leaving is for the best.
