Great Barrier Reef report: it's time to make polluters pay

Last week, the Australian and Queensland governments released a reef report card which found the overall condition of the reef in 2010-2011 was “poor”.

Via Kate Corcoran
BraydenJulietteGeo's insight:

Great article for human environment interaction about australias harmful farming that is killing the Great Barrier Reef . I chose this for human environment interaction under area and geography because it the people in Australia are interacting with their environment through harming. But because we are farming with to many chemicals it is running off into the Australian Great Barrier Reef , which is affecting our environment.

The case for gay marriage is made in the freedom of religion

The case for gay marriage is made in the freedom of religion | Australia and Europe units | Scoop.it
Freedom of religion is a hard-won principle. In Europe, the wars of religion raged for over a century before the Peace of  Westphalia solidified freedom of religion for rulers in 1648.

Via Christopher Pearsall
BraydenJulietteGeo's insight:

Interesting article of freedom of religion for Religion . in this article we see how over many century's Europes has had troubles with the right for freedom of religion . Finally the fighting has slowed down and freedom of religion is more accepted but now there is another problem, many people believe freedom of religion is freedom to marry whoever you want. I chose this article for religion because it pertains to Europes religious background and how it's religion may be apart of the choices it makes

Christopher Pearsall's curator insight, January 12, 2014 4:16 PM

A valuable insight from the article itself:

Gay marriage is a matter of religious freedom for two reasons: First, a substantial component of the opposition to legalizing gay marriage is religious in origin. This is particularly true in Utah, where the Mormon Church has taken a lead role in opposing gay marriage. Leave aside religious objections to gay marriage and what remains would be unlikely to garner much respect
