Facebook Introduces Pinterest-Style, Curated "Collections"

Facebook Introduces Pinterest-Style, Curated "Collections" | AugustRoo's Whirlwind World of WordPress | Scoop.it

From Robin Good: Facebook has introduced a new curation feature designed to allow its users to collect and organize their favorite "products" into so-called "Collections".

According to Hubspot "the new feature called 'Collections,' allows marketers to add “Want” or “Collect” buttons to news feed posts about products."

Source: http://blog.hubspot.com/blog/tabid/6307/bid/33698/Facebook-Tests-Pinterest-Style-Feature-Called-Collections.aspx

The new FB "Collections" is publicly available to everyone, and it is being tested "with 7 retail partners -- Pottery Barn, Wayfair, Victoria’s Secret, Michael Kors, Neiman Marcus, Smith Optics, and Fab.com."

(you need to go to those FB brad pages to test it).

It also seems that the feature can be activated in at least three different ways by one of these three upcoming action buttons:

a) "Want": adds the product to a Timeline section of a user's profile called “Wishlist”

b) "Collect": adds the item to a Collection called “Products”

c) "Like": a special version of the standard "Like" button that also adds the item to “Products”

N.B.: While Collections are free for business pages to use, they're only visible to the page's fans. You have to "Like" the page in order to see these types of posts.

Twheel: your tweets as an info graphic | Fast Company

Twheel: your tweets as an info graphic | Fast Company | AugustRoo's Whirlwind World of WordPress | Scoop.it
Twheel turns your tweets into an information graphic...

haven’t played with this yet in order to voice an opinion so this isn’t an endorsement. I do like the concept the developers are presenting. What was attention grabbing was the mention Edward Tufte’s word as the source of inspiration for their design. In a 3 day seminar he stressed the importance of user experience, even in the tools we use. And the value of pleasuring our senses in that exchange. To that end he takes great care in every facet of the design in any of his materials. For instance, a book would be crafted to be visually appealing as well as have information that is displayed in a way that it was easy to access and digest. Typography choices are key in this part, as well as layout. Graphics are produced to be sharp, informative and visually stimulating. Papers and cover materials convey the care and establish value through what the materials can convey to our touch. The things that do capture my attention with this app are the subtle cues to my senses: color choice and color play, graphics, information display and interactive animations all establish anticipation of a special experience. This app is just stepping leaving the next and may need a minute to fully find it’s wings. It’s innovation is to be celebrated, regardless of its ultimate success.

Kate Spade Reinvents Retail As A Lean Startup

Kate Spade Reinvents Retail As A Lean Startup | AugustRoo's Whirlwind World of WordPress | Scoop.it
The Kate Spade flagship in Japan serves espresso to encourage customers to chat and linger. And every Saturday, it releases an article of clothing you won’t find anywhere else.
Georgia Gibbs Design's insight:

What we can learn from this Kate Spade design innovation: Using a clean uncluttered UI to produce signage in this in-store ipad app saved tons on print expence and is a tool that can be used to promote nationaly as well as managed by the local shop to feature merchandise specific to them. The launch is being used to feature a weekly 'release' but you can see it growing in time to be a useful tool for any item in the shop. It is like an additional sales person (and no, not a replacement) that can cross sell merchandise.
