Another player in this market. If only someone came up with an attractive solution for tracking elderly people that is economic and easy to keep charged.

Back In The Day™, when men were men, cars were cars and boys were forced to work to support their families before their stupid brains were even half deve (Augmented Reality Car Manual Helps You With The Oil Change
Imersia's insight:

This is a very cool concept app, even though, as the blog says, it might not be that useful to the average guy. Cars are mostly a bunch of interconnected computers and there isn't much you can actually do yourself anymore, not like my old Triumph Spitfire where I could sit on a tyre and work on the engine.

On the other hand, I know of a number of people of the fairer sex (don't flame me!) who don't think about checking things like water levels on the cooling system, or the washer, or check their oil periodically.

This may not be necessary in a new car, or a car that gets its regular services. But lots of people don't fall into that category.

I like the AR presentation that not only shows where to take the cap off, but actually has an animated hand doing it.

As we have blogged before, this concept can apply really well to technologies such as clearing a paper jam from a big corporate printer / copier, where sometimes the manuals and illustrations aren't so clear.

it is probably onlya matter of months before end users and engineers are using AR technology to maintain equipment. Life will be easier for end users and field service people will be able to go out with less training and more confidence.

Augmented reality brings dinosaurs and planets to life - New Scientist

Augmented reality brings dinosaurs and planets to life
New Scientist
Talk about bringing an idea to life.
Imersia's insight:

Doesn't it seem ironic that, at a time when publishers are cutting out magazine titles that you would think would be even more relevant than ever, technologies like Augmented Reality, which is the world Imersia lives in are just starting to burst into life.

We can make print so exciting that kids will love books and magazines like never before, because they can interact with them in ways they never could before. Watch the asteroid and the Mars station, spin it, zoom in on it, control the Mars Rover.

Now we are going from reading to learning, to understanding and engaging and I would challenge you to find a boy who would not leap at the chance to play with books or publications like this. This technology is available to you today, its not science fiction. Would you be excited to be able to explore real and imaginary worlds in print like this?

We can do this for you today and its not expensive. We can do it in your magazine, newspaper, book, with toys and other real world objects. One day it will be like Google and you will be thinking back to days before this technology was every day. You might also be thinking why didn't I get into this early? Why didn't I invest in companies that do this stuff when they were still small?

In the meantime, you could try one of our prototype games, like Finga Footy andsee what its like playing a game, no just on your mobile, but with your finger in front of it.

Smart Swimming Goggles With Augmented Reality To Identify Organisms - Bit Rebels

Smart Swimming Goggles With Augmented Reality To Identify Organisms - Bit Rebels | Augmented Realities | Scoop.it
These smart swimming goggles are jam-packed with high tech features including an augmented reality feature which will identify any fish or other organisms.
Imersia's insight:

This is very cool. Everyone is talking about Google Goggles, but this one is for in the water.

I'm not a diver, but I've done some snorking in places like Jamaica and New Caledonia and these would definitely get me motivated to do some more!

You can communicate with other divers, identify fish, take 3D photos, this is a really creative way of using AR that I'm sure will become very popular, particularly with providers of tourist snorkling and diving services, but also for commercial and scientific use.

Heineken incentivizes app usage via augmented reality, contests - Content - Mobile Marketer

Heineken incentivizes app usage via augmented reality, contests - Content - Mobile Marketer | Augmented Realities | Scoop.it
Heineken is launching a mobile application as part of a summer promotion that is aimed at driving repeat usage with contests and content that keep users coming back regularly. (.
Imersia's insight:

We've been talking to agencies in New Zealand about similar solutions. Heineken has always been a leader when it comes to taking advantage of new technologies.

When creating campaigns using Augmented Reality, we can easily use object recognition which could be a combination of the bottle with the label. There is an argument for first mover advantage and this Heineken campaign is specifically aimed at the US market. There is still room for first movers here in Australasia.

Of course first doesn't mean it won't work for other brands, in fact the first mover has to do the most work to educate the market, whereas others can follow and be successful with campaigns that have points of difference, but target a market that has already tried AR.

Hobby electronics team up with augmented reality

Hobby electronics team up with augmented reality | Augmented Realities | Scoop.it
Here's an interesting take on using augmented reality alongside hobby electronics.
Imersia's insight:

When MIT start thinking about how you can augment the real world using WiFi and Arduino, some very cool things start happening. Watch this 3 minute video to see how they add new controls to a radio, a door, a light switch and connect devices together using AR.

Remove the AR element and the programming remains on the analogue switches. This is so cool and helps bring the potential of AR into practical applications.

You will understand why this gets me excited when you watch the video:)
