Flipped Classroom 2.0: Competency Learning With Videos

Flipped Classroom 2.0: Competency Learning With Videos | Audio & Video Tools for Educators | Scoop.it

The two teachers admit when they started flipping their classrooms they put everything into video form. Now, they’ve taken a step back and realized some things shouldn’t be in lecture form, and therefore shouldn’t be videos either. Instead, the two teachers have embraced what they call mastery learning, with an emphasis on students taking control of their own learning. Instructional videos are an optional part of a bigger move towards asynchronous learning.

wanderingsalsero's curator insight, May 8, 10:32 PM

This is a great idea although I don't see where, from just reading the description of what it does, where it's any different than Reel Surfer or Keeeb or probably even a few others.

There's no doubt, however, that curating and aggregating video content can be a beneficial service to lots of niches.....etc. specific styles of cooking, auto repair, golf tutorials, dancing (e.g. videos on 'cross body lead').

I'll definately subscribe to the site and try it out.  I'll sell you what I wish I cold find:  I wish I could find a tool that made it really easy to insert notes that would display at specific points in vidoes.  A lot of times I see videos where most of it it not interesting but a certain portion of it is.

Alexander King's comment, May 9, 8:16 PM
@wanderingsalsero: Simple. Reel Surfer and Keeeb do not allow you to have a persistant, global playlist. Also Keeeb isn't just focused on playable media.. it's a lot of different things. The "liner notes" that you are referring to are a feature that is coming soon to CratePlayer!
GIANFRANCO MARINI's curator insight, May 10, 5:04 PM

The Open-Source Cross-Platform Video Editor: Shotcut

The Open-Source Cross-Platform Video Editor: Shotcut | Audio & Video Tools for Educators | Scoop.it
Dean Mantz's curator insight, May 7, 11:02 AM

Ever since I came across Robin's Scoop.it site I have found some top knotch resources.  When educators are looking to integrate video projects into their curriculum, one must consider what time may be needed outside of class to complete the work.  Well, here is one video option that works on multiple platforms.  Thus, enabling students to work on projects at home as well as school.

173 Sud's curator insight, May 7, 11:12 AM

MakeUseOf :: Adobe Premiere. Final Cut Pro. Sony Vegas. AVID. All of these are high-end video editors that all have one attribute in common: they cost money. In an ideal world, there would be an equally high-end freeware video editing system out there. Unfortunately, most of the “editors” that do make these claims are embarrassingly poor and of little to no use.

However,  Shotcut may be a shining star in the world of free video editors. It’s an open-source, cross-platform editing system that is incredibly intricate, and it’s loaded with an arsenal of features so hot that they will melt your face off. More appropriately, Shotcut is a freeware video toolkit that is actually useful and won’t hold you back.

Shotcut offers basic cutting and trimming capabilities along with a zillion different codecs available for export. For the record, these are professional-level file formats, and you could even use Shotcut as a higher-end file converter from time to time, if needed. Also included is the ability to perform basic color correction with a three-wheel user interface, an eyedropper tool for post-production white balancing, and a few filters to choose from.

On the input side of things, Shotcut can receive footage via SDI, HDMI, and more. Timecode is supported, and the app will typically allow for native editing. Simply put, Shotcut is a fantastic piece of software to keep in your editing suite. I wouldn’t recommend it as your go-to editor, but it definitely has a place in the video production world.

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's curator insight, May 12, 12:13 PM

To install, simply extract the archive and run it. You can drag the Shotcut folder (app icon for OS X) to copy and move it wherever you want.

Discover, Clip And Share Videos From Anywhere With ReelSurfer

Discover, Clip And Share Videos From Anywhere With ReelSurfer | Audio & Video Tools for Educators | Scoop.it

Excerpted from review article by TechCrunch:
"ReelSurfer is an instant video editor, born out of its founders frustration of trying to find clips, quotes and scenes from their favorite movies on YouTube and other video sites.
ReelSurfer developed the tools to let you clip any video from any website and share it with your “homies” and “homedawgs” over the Facebooks, Twitters and more.

Today, ReelSurfer has officially unveiled a redesigned interface, which looks a whole helluva lot better and makes it easier to navigate and makes its URL search box even more prominent — as it should be.

The new interface still enables users to make video mashups or reels of multiple videos and link back to the source so that viewers can check out the full clip if they so choose. However, the new interface does allow for improved search and video discovery, so that users have a better chance to see if the clip they want to make has already been clippity-clipped by someone else. Time saving, my friends, time saving.

Yet, the biggest addition would have to be that ReelSurfer the now allows users to use its bookmarklet to clip videos from both Brightcove and Ooyala, in addition to YouTube and Vimeo..."
